“Le Gonnare” Vermentino Toscana IGT 2024
"My research into the world of white wines led to the creation of this unconventional wine. I have always realised that the most interesting aspect of Vermentino is in the skin. It is a delicious grape to eat, rich in aromatic notes. That's why I wanted to vinify Vermentino from the Le Gonnare vineyard, a small plot planted in 1987, and leave the skins to macerate with the must for 6 days during alcoholic fermentation. This has led to more aroma and the characteristic golden colour without making it heavy. A full-bodied and at the same time very cheerful wine." Fabio Motta

“Lo Scudiere” Sangiovese Toscana IGT 2022
"After working with Sangiovese for ten years, I finally decided to produce a single-varietal wine. For too long I had unjustly relegated this grape variety to a marginal role in my production. It is not only the expression of pure Tuscan tradition, but also the most technically difficult grape, which at the same time is capable of producing great emotions. Fabio Motta began his winemaking career in Michele Satta's wine cellar in Castagneto Carducci. Surrounded by the Tuscan maquis, olive groves and vineyards, the Lombard from Brianza spent five years working alongside the renowned Oenologistoenologist, who is now not only his friend and mentor, but also his father-in-law.
Fabio Motta finds his home in Bolgheri.
With the purchase of four hectares of vineyards in 2009, Fabio and Michele's daughter Benedetta realised their dream of producing their own wine in the DOC Bolgheri. His first vineyard, Le Pievi, is located not far from the coast at the foot of the Castagneto Carducci hill and is planted with twenty-year-old Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines. In the years that followed, Fabio expanded his production to include the two-hectare Le Gonnare vineyard, which is planted with Vermentino, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The third vineyard, Vigna del Capriolo, covers just half a hectare of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon vines and has been leased by Fabio since 2018, and in 2024 he succeeded in acquiring this vineyard too.
Focus fully on nature.
The production philosophy is primarily focussed on maintaining the ecological balance in the vineyard and working in an environmentally friendly way. The cool sea breezes and the mineral soils of the nearby Tuscan coast offer ideal conditions for harvesting healthy grapes. For Fabio, however, the second production phase – winemaking – is just as important as the potential of the individual vineyards.
Since the beginning, he has had the vision of an organic winery with biodynamic influences, in which nature is also allowed to take its course in the wine cellar. He only ever intervenes in the production process as gently as possible and uses indigenous yeasts for fermentation, which are already on the grape skins at the time of harvest. Chemical agents are not used in the cellar and the winemaker also minimises their use in the filtering process.
More quality through strategy.
In 2024, Fabio Motta entered into a strategic partnership with the Gussalli Beretta family on the clear condition that he would remain solely responsible for the style, quality and philosophy of the winery. 80 per cent of the business now belongs to the Gussalli Beretta group, while Fabio remains at the heart of his winery. This decision allows him to personally follow every step – from the vine to the bottle – and to realise a noticeable leap in quality.
