"Very pale pink. Delicate aromas and flavors of pink grapefruit, pomegranate and white flowers, with a hint of strawberry. Saline on entry and again on the long finish, which speaks of the Molinara, a red grape variety that has erroneously been cast aside by most Veneto producers due to the lack of color of its wines. Instead, it’s an outstanding variety by which to make Rosato. This extremely graceful pink wine might appeal less to those looking for size and power, but it’s a remarkably well balanced, elegant, beauty." Vinous

    • Valpolicella Ripasso DOC 2016

      Valpolicella Ripasso DOC 2016

Bertanis Ripasso is a true classic. The grapes come from the hills around Valpantena and from the direct Valpolicella Classico area. The production at Bertani is carried out according to the traditional method: The young Valpolicella wine, already fermented, is mixed with the skins, which are now naturally dried, giving it a richer and more concentrated aroma. It then undergoes a second so-called "ripasso" fermentation, which is triggered by the yeasts still present in the shells.

Intense purple with violet reflections. In the bouquet numerous dark red fruits like blackberry, currant and ripe cherry. It has a slightly bitter aftertaste, which with the slightly increased residual sweetness gives an exciting yet dry impression. Velvety and balanced, with a rather long aftertaste. An ideal wine for the dark months and an excellent accompaniment to strong, intense and aromatic dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2009

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2009

Only nine years after the harvest is this great wine released for sale: The slow drying of the fully ripe grapes gives this Cru its tremendous strength and density as well as its exceptional character with powerful maturity, fullness of fruit, beautiful concentration and great elegance. On the palate Bertanis Amarone shows noble lightness and great dynamism. An exciting wine and for decades the most classic Amarone - quasi the archetype - of the whole appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby red with a slightly garnet edge. Very reserved nose, slightly orange zest, dried tomatoes, a little strawberry. In the mouth juicy and polished, round, expands gently and velvety, great freshness, pithy middle range, long in the aftertaste, still looks very young." Falstaff

"Bottled in January 2017 and released to the market during the upcoming April edition of Vinitaly, 2009 was a warm, dry vintage just as in Bordeaux, yet favored here by a drastic range of diurnal and nocturnal temperatures. The wine is full of youth apparent by the color and almost estery on the nose, with a bright cherry aroma accentuated by notes of bay leaf and a peppery finish. The acidity is still quite racy undermining firm, ripe tannins while balancing high alcohol (15,5%). Bottle ageing will help to give way to the beloved, restrained Bertani style." Decanter

"A really beautiful Amarone that shows fresh, glazed cherries, red licorice, dried nutmeg, caramelized orange peel, dried rose petals, hot stones and red-plum essence. Medium to full body, really tight and compact tannins, pinpoint acidity and a long, spicy finish. So dry, linear and well defined." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Bertani
    Veneto
    Bertani

The winery, formerly owned by the Bertani family, reflects a piece of Italian, but above all Veronese wine history. Already in the founding year Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani distinguished themselves through their great enthusiasm and their pronounced progressive thinking. Very early on, the brothers in the Valpantena valley near Grezzana produced a drop so noble that it became a milestone for the entire Valpolicella area: The Secco Bertani. The innovative wine house quickly became known throughout Europe and received numerous awards. An example of the great success that has lasted to this day: at the coronation banquet for George VI of England in 1937, Soave Bertani was the only white wine to be served.

In the meantime, the wine house belongs to the Angelini family from the Marches. It owns historic wineries in the best wine-growing areas of Tuscany and has quickly turned Bertani into a strong brand with a modern look. Francesco Angelini opened up new perspectives for Bertani with investments in the cellar and vineyards. He also created synergies with the family wineries in Tuscany and Friuli. Emilio Pedron manages the fate of the winery, known for its wide range of high quality labels and for its clearly defined style full of character. The President and Managing Director has a great name in the Italian wine and business world.

From the gentle hills of Valpolicella, which have a very mild climate thanks to the proximity of Lake Garda and the Lessini Mountains, to Valpantena and Bardolino, to the eastern hills around Soave, the Bertani team knows the special characteristics of all the growing areas and knows how to make the most of them. The interplay between modern technology and the winemaker Christian Ridolfi, who has been working for the company since 1999, is perfect.

At the company's headquarters near Grezzana, in addition to Valpolicella varieties, wines from the Soave region and Lake Garda are bottled. In the cellar of Tenuta Novare, beautifully situated in the hills of Valpolicella - the heart of the wine house and acquired more than 60 years ago by the Bertani family - wines of great complexity and elegance, inspired by the French wine culture, are created, with both classic and modern flavours. This is also where the complex and rich Amarone matures. The cellar inventory includes many new large barrels of chestnut, cherry and oak wood. But there is also a lot of wood in the typical size of the 'botte veronese' and I'll be there. These huge containers can hold up to 800 litres of wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Bertani winery, part of the Angelini family empire, represents the tradition of Valpolicella. Innovation and renewal take place without losing sight of the special character of this soil and its customs."Gambero Rosso
