Valpolicella DOC 2020
The classic from a good house: Fresh flowers, sweet red berries, mint and a hint of cinnamon escape the glass. Absolutely delicious and vinous on the palate, the style is exuberant and cheerful. This is how one can only wish for Valpolicella. SUPERIORE.DE
"There’s a mentholated freshness that keeps me coming back to the 2020 Valpolicella, as bright cherries, licorice and hints of smoke form its bouquet. It is soft-textured and pure, with red berries and minerals motivated by brisk acids. This leaves rosy florals and a gentle tug of tannin, making for a pleasantly dry finale." Vinous

“Le Miniere di Novare” Valpolicella Classico DOC 2020
The grapes for this graceful Valpolicella Classico come from the Miniere vineyard of Bertani's Villa Novare estate, a south-western site of just 4 hectares consisting of two terraces. Bright ruby red, notes of fresh fruit, cherry, wild berries on the nose, with elegant hints of white pepper. Spicy, light and tasty on the palate, with remarkable persistence and great length! SUPERIORE.DE
"Initially of blood orange on the nose, then rich raspberry and cherry, a hint of chestnut honey, very inviting. Balanced and very clear on the palate, spreads out with savoury red berry fruit, slightly salty undertone, demands a second sip. Pairs well with a margherita in particular when served cool." Falstaff

“Ognisanti di Novare” Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2019
The grapes for this top-class Valpolicella Classico Superiore come from rather barren, chalky and terraced vineyards of the Tenuta Novare above the Ognisanti church. Here, wines of greater complexity, perfect structure and higher concentration are produced than in most other Valpolicella sites. Sparkling ruby garnet. Fragrant nose with beautiful overtones of sour cherry, dried flowers and white pepper. Perfectly balanced on the palate with firm tannin and wonderful spice and depth of fruit due to the wood ageing. A superior, winning wine from the core zone of Valpolicella. SUPERIORE.DE
"The complexity creeps up on you here. From a simple red-berry start, the aroma profile expands, adding notes of freshly squeezed oranges, cranberries and dry minerals. Medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a long, long finish. Bertani are the masters of this kind of restrained complexity, a rarity in the Veneto region." James Suckling

“Catullo” Ripasso Valpolicella Classico DOC 2018
The grapes for this noble Valpolicella come from calcareous marl soils from the terraced vineyards of the Novare winery. Similar to the Amarone process, the grapes undergo a second fermentation on the sweet skins of dried grapes in March after the harvest. Strong ruby red, warm spicy notes on the palate, cherry, black pepper and hints of chocolate. Animating in the glass with intense fruity aromas, wonderfully soft tannin structure and beautiful persistence. This multilayered, luxurious wine does not have to hide behind its big brother! Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2012
Only nine years after the harvest is this great wine released for sale: The slow drying of the fully ripe harvested grapes gives this cru its tremendous power and density as well as the extraordinary character with massive ripeness, fruit fullness, beautiful concentration and great elegance. On the palate, Bertani's Amarone demonstrates freshness, noble lightness and great dynamism. An exciting wine and for decades probably the most classic Amarone - the archetype, so to speak - of the entire appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, very intense ruby. Opens with light mineral notes, then after pickled cherries and rich red berry fruit, underlaid with fine blood orange in the background. Very precise in attack and course, elegant cherry fruit, grippy, dense tannin, opens in many layers, fine melting, now already easy to drink, very juicy, very great development potential." Falstaff
"Mid garnet. So much going on here in the nose! Fruit and dried spices. Makes me want to try an Amarone next time I’m in an Indian restaurant with a good wine list. Really very complex and exciting. So fresh and clean! Dry finish. So unlike the Amarone commercial norm. Really rather thrilling." Jancis Robinson
"Wow. Such a complex nose, with a base of dried cherry, spruced up with hints of mild coffee and walnuts. Then there are dried flowers, wild herbs and spices, such as tarragon and cloves. Subtle hints of dried banana and apricot, too. The palate is full, super sleek, intense and well-balanced, with tight, spice-coated tannins that drive everything forward. Long, long finish. Lovely to taste now, but this already almost ten-year-old will sit comfortably in your cellar for a long while yet." James Suckling

The winery, formerly owned by the Bertani family, reflects a piece of Italian, but above all Veronese wine history. Already in the founding year Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani distinguished themselves through their great enthusiasm and their pronounced progressive thinking. Very early on, the brothers in the Valpantena valley near Grezzana produced a drop so noble that it became a milestone for the entire Valpolicella area: The Secco Bertani. The innovative wine house quickly became known throughout Europe and received numerous awards. An example of the great success that has lasted to this day: at the coronation banquet for George VI of England in 1937, Soave Bertani was the only white wine to be served.
In the meantime, the wine house belongs to the Angelini family from the Marches. It owns historic wineries in the best wine-growing areas of Tuscany and has quickly turned Bertani into a strong brand with a modern look. Francesco Angelini opened up new perspectives for Bertani with investments in the cellar and vineyards. He also created synergies with the family wineries in Tuscany and Friuli. Emilio Pedron manages the fate of the winery, known for its wide range of high quality labels and for its clearly defined style full of character. The President and Managing Director has a great name in the Italian wine and business world.
From the gentle hills of Valpolicella, which have a very mild climate thanks to the proximity of Lake Garda and the Lessini Mountains, to Valpantena and Bardolino, to the eastern hills around Soave, the Bertani team knows the special characteristics of all the growing areas and knows how to make the most of them. The interplay between modern technology and the winemaker Christian Ridolfi, who has been working for the company since 1999, is perfect.
At the company's headquarters near Grezzana, in addition to Valpolicella varieties, wines from the Soave region and Lake Garda are bottled. In the cellar of Tenuta Novare, beautifully situated in the hills of Valpolicella - the heart of the wine house and acquired more than 60 years ago by the Bertani family - wines of great complexity and elegance, inspired by the French wine culture, are created, with both classic and modern flavours. This is also where the complex and rich Amarone matures. The cellar inventory includes many new large barrels of chestnut, cherry and oak wood. But there is also a lot of wood in the typical size of the 'botte veronese' and I'll be there. These huge containers can hold up to 800 litres of wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Bertani winery, part of the Angelini family empire, represents the tradition of Valpolicella. Innovation and renewal take place without losing sight of the special character of this soil and its customs."Gambero Rosso
