    • "Terra di Monteverro" Toscana IGT 2016

“Terra di Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2016

Deep dark cherry red with a violet glow at the rim. Aromas of spices such as rosemary and thyme on the nose, plus fruity notes of blackcurrant and cherry. On the palate blackberry, cherry, fresh plum and cranberry, wonderful cassis note and dark chocolate on the long final. Modern Tuscan, stylistically rigorous according to the French model. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dense wine red with brightening rim. Charming bouquet with this time rather blue and dark berry fruit, violets, tobacco and lots of Cabernet spice. On the juicy-fresh palate with lots of cherry fruit, but remains serious and precise with a linear orientation despite the juicy melt and seductive extract sweetness. It finishes with tobacco and wild berries in the substantial final. A great wine value with an excellent price-pleasure ratio. And which is very nice to drink now." Weinwisser

"Intense, dark shining ruby red with delicate purple and brightening rim. In the nose first clearly violet and blood orange, then rich cherry and blackberries, softly graphite. Dense in the mouth with dark fruity play, spreads out nicely, slightly grippy tannin, compact in attack and course." Falstaff

"This is showing a plethora of primary fruit at the moment, such as elderberries and brambleberries. But there's some real complexity beneath, featuring roasted herbs and nettles. Full-bodied with impressive fruit, but firm tannins to back it up." James Suckling

"The 2016 Terra di Monteverro is a great choice if you love blended reds from sunny Tuscany. This pretty expression is dark, exuberant, rich and fruit-forward. However, the wine is also characterized by that sense of focus and linearity that is the very definition of the classic 2016 vintage. Blackberry and black currant segue to spice, tar and smoked cedar." Robert Parker

Fresh rose sugar and graphite on the palate; plus raspberry, cherry, fresh plum and cranberries. Long in the finish with a fine cassis note. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Monteverro" Toscana IGT 2015

      “Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2015

Monteverro - a classic French blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - is full of opulence and variety. Incredibly rich in aromas of dark fruits, chocolate and spices, soft, full-bodied, polished tannins. The greatness of this wine cannot be exaggerated. A masterpiece by Michel Rolland. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, dark ruby with a black core. A pleasant blend, with notes of macchia herbs, thyme, rosemary and curry, then rich blackberry and dark currant, some chocolate. Builts up on the palate like a peacock, much fine-meshed, dense tannin with firm core, dark berry fruit, fills the palate full, sweet enamel, still looks very young." Falstaff

"The 2015 Monteverro comes out with gangbuster intensity and richness, keeping the wine very much in line with our expectations of this profound and exuberant vintage. This wine is lavishly layered with dark fruit, dried cherry, tar, smoke and exotic spice. Those aromas just jump right out at you, never letting up in intensity or complexity." Robert Parker

"Wow. The nose here is alive with oyster shell, iodine, crushed stones, lavender, freshly picked blackcurrants, licorice and dried sage and thyme. Full-bodied and very deeply flavored, but the tannins are beautifully polished and dialed-in. The juxtaposition between sweet and sour flavors and umami nuances is enough to take anyone’s breath away. Delicious now, but better in 2024." James Suckling

      “Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2016

Monteverro - a classic French blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - brims with opulence and diversity. Rich, dark ruby with a black core. Incredibly rich in aromas of dark fruits, chocolate and spices, soft, full body, polished tannins. It is impossible to exaggerate the joy of the magnificence of this wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"An immensely complex bouquet, which has developed further compared to the barrel tasting, with blue and dark berries, fine minerality, which goes in the direction of graphite (pencil lead) and iron, wonderfully elegant and precise, the change in style towards more elegance and finesse, which was already clear in the younger years, is still there. In the mouth, enormously powerful, yet wonderfully supple and linear, the pressure is somewhat reminiscent of the younger Figeac vintages with this blueberry-infused breed and freshness. Wow, I like it even more than three years ago, which results in a plus sign in the rating. It is slowly coming into drinking maturity and has potential for a good two decades. A great Maremma Grand Cru." Weinwisser

"Rich, deep dark ruby violet. Opens with rich notes of blueberries and blackberries, lots of clear fruit, subtle resinous tones in the background. Lush berry fruit on the attack, then opens with a coat of fine-mesh tannin, supple, lots of pressure on the final, sweet melting." Falstaff

"Monteverro always delivers excellent results, and this is more true than ever in this balanced and classic vintage. Although the 2016 Monteverro is never a terribly territory-driven wine (it's hard to place it from Capalbio, Tuscany, per se), it is a beautifully executed rendition based on a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The bouquet is rich and multidimensional with dark fruit, plum cake, sweet tobacco and sweet baking spice. It is tight and well-assembled, with lasting intensity, yet its power is ultimately reined in by an elegant personality." Robert Parker

"This is another incredible edition of this wine. The fruit pops straight out with pure blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Then, if that wasn't enough, the nose reveals dark herbs, citrus, iodine, crushed stones and pressed violets. The quality of the tannins blows you away, as they take you on a journey through layers of dark fruit, supported by cutting acidity and savory undertones. Very long on the refined yet chewy finish." “Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2015 · 3 Bottles in OWC

"An immensely complex bouquet, which has developed even further compared to the barrel tasting, with now rather blue and dark berries, fine minerality, which goes in the direction of graphite (pencil lead) and iron, wonderfully elegant and precise, the change in style towards more elegance and finesse, which was already clear in the younger years, is still there.

Very long on the refined yet chewy finish." About the winemakersMonteverroTuscany | Maremma
    Monteverro

With his Tenuta Monteverro, situated below the medieval town of Capalbio in the province of Grosseto, the successful German entrepreneur Georg Weber has courageously gained access to the society of the Tuscan wine aristocracy on the last hill before the Tyrrhenian Sea. Previously, the pedantic landowner had spent several years searching for his vineyard paradise between Napa Valley, Bordeaux and Australia with no result. In front of the entrance door of the winery in the Maremma stands a cast-iron wild boar, which also gave it its name: Monteverro means Eberberg.

Before he bought a total of 50 hectares of land in 2003 to cultivate particularly high-quality plants with an international team without the slightest compromise, the wine enthusiast and studied business economist Weber commissioned elaborate soil samples. The investigations revealed that red earth was hidden under the ears of grain, which had a high proportion of limestone, clay and iron. In 2006, work began on the construction of the estate building and the functionally equipped cellar built into a hill. Apart from the white variety Vermentino, French varieties, mainly from the Bordelais, thrive in Tenuta Monteverro in a south-southwest orientation. The distances between the vine rows were determined with laser beams. A drainage system installed in the vineyards allows excess water to drain off. The light sea breeze, cool nights and sunny days create the best climatic conditions for a good growth of the vines.

In order to produce unique and authentic wines, Weber trusts the advice of renowned French experts: the soil specialists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon as well as the world-famous wine consultant Michel Rolland. Only hand-picked fruits of the highest quality are processed very gently in the cellar. The details of winemaking make the heart of every winegrower beat faster. In a cooling tunnel, the grapes are cooled down to seven degrees. No pumps are used, only gravity is used to produce silky tannins. In the barrique cellar, the temperature under the wooden barrels can be increased by underfloor heating if malolactic fermentation is interrupted.

The estate's showpiece is Monteverro, a wine of unmistakable character, made from grapes from the best vineyards and produced only in very small quantities. Georg Weber proudly describes the cuvée made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot as "Premier Grand Cru of Tuscany". SUPERIORE.DE

"Wine critics are often asked where to find the ideal winery. Committed to reality and objectivity, the answer usually remains objective. But if you could swarm, it could be: Monteverro in Tuscany is almost perfect."Falstaff
