“Verruzzo di Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2020 (BIO)
The structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, the spiciness of Cabernet Franc, the power of Syrah and the softness of Merlot combine here to create a red wine full of character, Mediterranean aromas and elegance. Dark red with a violet edge, fresh fruit bouquet of pomegranate and red currant with balanced hints of thyme, bay leaf and cedar. Initially very fresh and powerful on the palate with memories of raspberry and redcurrant, then round and harmonious, well structured and with soft tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

“Terra di Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2017
Deep dark cherry red with a violet glow at the rim. Aromas of spices such as rosemary and thyme on the nose, plus fruity notes of blackcurrant and cherry. On the palate blackberry, cherry, fresh plum and cranberry, wonderful cassis note and dark chocolate on the long final. Modern Tuscan, stylistically rigorous according to the French model. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark garnet. Hearty and elegant cherry nose of wild berries and ripe raspberries, also slightly of cassis, in the reverberation delicately of cardamom. On the palate polished and compact, opens finely drawn with rich fruit, grippy-compact tannin accompanies the drink, minimal drying due to its youth." Falstaff
"This is a wine with ripe cherry and black fruit aromas and flavours, imbued with an invigorating balsamic freshness. It's perhaps a touch hollow on the mid-palate, lacking some fruit intensity, but the finish is elegant." Decanter
"Extremely floral and aromatic with blackberry, violet and sandalwood character. Full-bodied, tight and focused with rich, chewy tannins, yet pointed and focused. Needs time to open and come together. Better after 2023." James Suckling

Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2017
Bright golden colour, explosive aromas of quince, honey, wax, granite, blood orange, vanilla, white chocolate and straw on the full bouquet. On the palate, initial notes of roasted cashew and almond, followed by fruits such as white peach, pear and citrus. Exciting and very multi-faceted. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright yellow with greenish reflections. This one also seems much fresher than the earlier vintages. On the nose, a beautiful liaison of delicate roasted aromas with slightly buttery and floral notes, some toast with pine nuts and hints of ethereal notes, again also a breeze of sea air. On the palate this is a bit more substantial, smoother than the 2019, but you can sense the warm year despite the stylistic move towards more elegance. An elegant Chardonnay." Weinwisser
"A solid chardonnay with cooked apples, honey and cookies, as well as light vanilla and toffee undertones. Honeysuckle, to. It's medium-to full-bodied with lovely fruit and a fresh, fruity finish. Tight and focused." James Suckling

“Tinata” Toscana IGT 2016
Black cherry red with a violet rim. In the nose notes of spices like ginger, cinnamon, dried coriander and vanilla bean, rounded off with fruit flavours of pomegranate, cherry and floral nuances like geranium, lavender and rose. Fresh rose sugar and graphite on the palate; plus raspberry, cherry, fresh plum and cranberries. Long in the finish with a fine cassis note. SUPERIORE.DE
"Plenty of fresh, crushed raspberries and currants with hints of wood. Medium to full body. Fine tannins and a clean finish." James Suckling
"Here’s a happy surprise from the Tuscan Coast and definitely one of the most memorable samples I tasted from this region this year. The 2016 Tinata is a beautifully balanced blend of Syrah and Grenache that hits all its proverbial nails on the head. I admire the fullness and generosity of the wine (that is never heavy), its depth and complexity (that is never banal) and its power (that is not overblown). You get the savory fullness of Syrah with black fruit, tobacco, smoke and spice and some of the vertical freshness of the Grenache. The tannins are softly textured to the point of being creamy. It gives me great joy to enthusiastically recommend this exciting wine from Monteverro." Robert Parker

“Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2015
Monteverro - a classic French blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - is full of opulence and variety. Incredibly rich in aromas of dark fruits, chocolate and spices, soft, full-bodied, polished tannins. The greatness of this wine cannot be exaggerated. A masterpiece by Michel Rolland. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, dark ruby with a black core. A pleasant blend, with notes of macchia herbs, thyme, rosemary and curry, then rich blackberry and dark currant, some chocolate. Builts up on the palate like a peacock, much fine-meshed, dense tannin with firm core, dark berry fruit, fills the palate full, sweet enamel, still looks very young." Falstaff
"The 2015 Monteverro comes out with gangbuster intensity and richness, keeping the wine very much in line with our expectations of this profound and exuberant vintage. This wine is lavishly layered with dark fruit, dried cherry, tar, smoke and exotic spice. Those aromas just jump right out at you, never letting up in intensity or complexity." Robert Parker
"Wow. The nose here is alive with oyster shell, iodine, crushed stones, lavender, freshly picked blackcurrants, licorice and dried sage and thyme. Full-bodied and very deeply flavored, but the tannins are beautifully polished and dialed-in. The juxtaposition between sweet and sour flavors and umami nuances is enough to take anyone’s breath away. Delicious now, but better in 2024." James Suckling

“Monteverro” Toscana IGT 2016
Monteverro - a classic French blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - brims with opulence and diversity. Rich, dark ruby with a black core. Incredibly rich in aromas of dark fruits, chocolate and spices, soft, full body, polished tannins. It is impossible to exaggerate the joy of the magnificence of this wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"An immensely complex bouquet, which has developed further compared to the barrel tasting, with blue and dark berries, fine minerality, which goes in the direction of graphite (pencil lead) and iron, wonderfully elegant and precise, the change in style towards more elegance and finesse, which was already clear in the younger years, is still there. In the mouth, enormously powerful, yet wonderfully supple and linear, the pressure is somewhat reminiscent of the younger Figeac vintages with this blueberry-infused breed and freshness. Wow, I like it even more than three years ago, which results in a plus sign in the rating. It is slowly coming into drinking maturity and has potential for a good two decades. A great Maremma Grand Cru." Weinwisser
"Rich, deep dark ruby violet. Opens with rich notes of blueberries and blackberries, lots of clear fruit, subtle resinous tones in the background. Lush berry fruit on the attack, then opens with a coat of fine-mesh tannin, supple, lots of pressure on the final, sweet melting." Falstaff
"Monteverro always delivers excellent results, and this is more true than ever in this balanced and classic vintage. Although the 2016 Monteverro is never a terribly territory-driven wine (it's hard to place it from Capalbio, Tuscany, per se), it is a beautifully executed rendition based on a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The bouquet is rich and multidimensional with dark fruit, plum cake, sweet tobacco and sweet baking spice. It is tight and well-assembled, with lasting intensity, yet its power is ultimately reined in by an elegant personality." Robert Parker
"This is another incredible edition of this wine. The fruit pops straight out with pure blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Then, if that wasn't enough, the nose reveals dark herbs, citrus, iodine, crushed stones and pressed violets. The quality of the tannins blows you away, as they take you on a journey through layers of dark fruit, supported by cutting acidity and savory undertones. Very long on the refined yet chewy finish." With his Tenuta Monteverro, situated below the medieval town of Capalbio in the province of Grosseto, the successful German entrepreneur Georg Weber has courageously gained access to the society of the Tuscan wine aristocracy on the last hill before the Tyrrhenian Sea. Previously, the pedantic estate owner had spent several years searching for his vineyard paradise between Napa Valley, Bordeaux and Australia without results. In front of the entrance door of the winery in the Maremma stands a cast-iron wild boar, which also gave it its name: Monteverro means boar mountain.
Before he acquired a total of 50 hectares of land in 2003 in order to cultivate particularly high-quality crops with an international team without the slightest compromise, Weber, a wine enthusiast and graduate in business administration, commissioned elaborate soil tests. The tests revealed that red soil was hidden under the ears of grain, with high proportions of limestone, clay and iron. In 2006, work began on the construction of the estate building and the functionally equipped cellar built into a hill. Except for the white variety Vermentino, French varieties, mainly from the Bordelais, thrive in the Tenuta Monteverro in a south-southwest orientation. The distances between the vine rows were determined with laser beams. A drainage system installed in the vineyards allows excess water to run off. The light sea breeze, cool nights and sunny days create the best climatic conditions for the vines to grow well.
In order to press unique and authentic wines, Weber trusts the advice of renowned French experts: the soil specialists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon as well as the world-famous wine consultant Michel Rolland. In the cellar, only hand-picked fruit of the highest quality is processed very gently. The details of the winemaking process make the heart of every winemaker beat faster. The grapes are cooled down to seven degrees in a cooling tunnel. No pumps are used, only gravity is applied to extract silky tannins. In the barrique cellar, the temperature under the wooden barrels can be raised via underfloor heating in case malolactic fermentation is interrupted.
The showpiece of the winery is the Monteverro, which stands for its unmistakable character, is made from grapes from the best vineyards and is only produced in very small quantities. Georg Weber proudly describes the cuvée made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot as a "Premier Grand Cru of Tuscany". SUPERIORE.DE
"Wine critics like to be asked where one could find the ideal winery. Committed to reality and objectivity, the answer usually remains factual. But if one were allowed to enthuse, it could be: Monteverro in Tuscany is almost perfect." Falstaff
