    • Brachetto d'Acqui DOC 2019

      Brachetto d’Acqui DOC 2019

The Brachetto d'Acqui is light ruby red (with cherry-red foam) and presents itself as a clearly moussed Brachetto d'Acqui. The bouquet is very aromatic with notes of nutmeg, rose and violet. The taste is very elegant, reminiscent of strawberries, round and finely balanced between mild sweetness and fruity, very refreshing astringency. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brachetto remains one of Italy's under-appreciated wines, despite the fact it is a fundamental part of local drinking culture in Piedmont. The Braida 2019 Brachetto d'Acqui pours from the bottle with a purplish-ruby tinge, and it supplies a good amount of foam and fizz despite its semi-sparkling status. The bouquet reveals candied raspberry, wild rose, peach and nectarine. If you dig deep, you will also find chalky mineral notes. The alcoholic content is a very contained 5.5%, making for a nice sparkling lunch wine with a vegetable piadina." Robert Parker

    • "Montebruna" Barbera d'Asti DOC 2017

      “Montebruna” Barbera d’Asti DOC 2017

Dreamlike Barbera from world-famous location, in the nose complex aromas of dark red, plump, juicy cherries, finest spices and black forest berries. In the mouth polished, dense, enormously much glycerine and sweet fruit, present but silky tannins, finely enclosed by the fruit, finesse-rich, persistent, first-class acidity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Inviting nose with notes of dark forest berries, cherry and blackberry. Full fruit on the palate, ripe tannin, balanced structure and long finish. Falstaff

"This big, plush barbera makes an impressive statement at the outset of plum paste, dried olives and vanilla. The full-bodied palate is quite balanced, though, and there’s enough firmness to the tannins to structure the dense dark fruit." James Suckling

"This red is well-defined by bracing acidity that marshals the black currant, black cherry, violet and mineral flavors to a long finish. Complex and harmonious, with a light grain to the texture. The aftertaste evokes spice and tobacco notes." Wine Spectator

"Here's a wild, full-bodied expression of Barbera. This native grape of Piedmont loves the heat, and it got exactly that in this dry vintage. Barbera from Asti always holds its own in terms of acidity, and that quality is very important in a vintage like this. The Braida 2017 Barbera d'Asti Montebruna comes off as a very balanced wine. It shows loads of character, and that tart, acidic freshness tapers out and prolongs the mouthfeel. A pasta with cream, onion and sausage would be right in line here. This is a terrific value buy." “Bricco dell’Uccellone” Barbera d’Asti DOC 2017

With tireless dedication, the Bologna family fulfils the legacy of Giacomo Bologna, who is rightly considered the father of modern Barbera d'Asti. The historical jewel of the house is the Bricco dell'Uccellone: dense and complex bouquet, tannic and persistent on the palate, with an excellent structure and a beautiful acidity and persistence of taste. SUPERIORE.DE

"A very ripe yet impressive style of Barbera with vanilla, blackberry crumble, eucalyptus, tar, mocha and coffee beans. Very structured and full-bodied on the palate, but beautiful acidity cuts right through the plush dark fruit. Long and serious on the finish. Superb as always. Drink from 2021." James Suckling

"One of the wines that changed the modern history of Italian wine, this expression from Braida is an evergreen favorite. The 2017 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is a dark and almost impenetrable expression with bold layers of thick, dark fruit. The wine is constructed like a little tower, layer upon layer, that rises tall with momentum and power. The intensity is beautiful, and that's always been the defining trait of Uccellone. It drinks beautifully now, but it will hold its own in the cellar." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Braida
    Piedmont
    Braida

The Bologna family has been successfully producing wine in Monferrato for about half a century. And her winery Braida has always been one of the most outstanding wineries in Piedmont. With the siblings Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, the third generation has taken over the management of the family business. In their work, the two oenologists combine modern knowledge with tradition. In the 1980s, her father Giacomo Bologna had broken new ground in dealing with the Barbera grape by daring for the first time to mature in barriques and giving the red variety the status of a noble vine. The name of the winery goes back to the grandfather of the current owners, Giuseppe Bologna, who used to nickname himself "Bologna" on village squares during ball games. "Braida" for the first time.

The production of the world-famous winery is mainly focused on Barbera, the most widespread grape variety in Piedmont. The winery also sees itself as a pioneer of the Barbera d'Asti. On the vineyards of the municipality of Rocchetta Tanaro the grapes for the flagship of the Braida winery and probably the most famous Barbera of all - the "Bricco dell'uccellones". In addition there are vines in Costigliole d'Asti and Castelnuovo Calcea as well as in the higher vineyards of Mango d'Alba and Trezzo Tinella. Raffaella and Giuseppe, in addition to the Barbera grape, are also dedicated to other indigenous grape varieties such as Moscato, Brachetto and Grignolino. Merlot, Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon also grow in the estate's own vineyards. The soils consist mostly of clay, lime and sand. The soil is usually loose to medium hard.

Uncompromising pursuit of quality, passion for the terroir, innovation and sustainability are the ingredients of Braida's success. The worldwide great recognition can be read not only in the cult wine "Bricco dell'uccellones"but also in the Barbera classic "Montebruna" and in "Bricco della Bigotta". All three plants have been alternated by the wine guide Gambero Rossoin the past years with "Three glasses" excellent. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Barberas produced have always been so powerful, multi-layered and deep that they are the perfect expression of the modern interpretation of this vine."Gambero Rosso
