Brachetto d’Acqui DOC 2021 vivace
An elementary part of the Piedmontese drinking culture and probably one of the most underestimated wines in Italy: Light ruby red (with cherry-red foam), the clearly effervescent Brachetto d'Acqui presents itself. The bouquet is very aromatic with notes of nutmeg, rose and violets. The taste is extremely elegant, reminiscent of strawberries, round and finely balanced between mild sweetness and fruity, very refreshing astringency. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Brachetto d’Acqui is gorgeous. Dried flowers, crushed red berries, mint, herbs and exotic spice notes lend striking nuance to this very pretty, enticing Brachetto." Vinous

“Curej” Barbera d’Asti DOC 2020
"We want this land to say: Barbera. We have always thought that, ever since the first vineyards that grandfather Giuseppe left to his father Giacomo, where grapes were grown for La Monella. Then those between Rocchetta and Belveglio (the Bricco dell'Uccellone sites), which mother Anna brought as a dowry, and the Montebruna vineyards, which we bought and merged - and still look at with great pride." Familie Bologna
With the same respect for the landscape and the grape variety, the first vintage of Curej was harvested in 2019, and the name says it all: it is the nickname of the families who have always lived in the village of Rocchetta Tanaro, with 1,400 inhabitants. So this wine is a very impressive reminder of its roots, the typical taste of the Barbera grape and the open, wide and happy panaroma enjoyed from the San Bernardo winery.
Curej is an extremely fresh, straightforward and precise Barbera, full of primary aromas, which reflects the signature of the Braida winery, famous for the grape, in the most impressive way, because hardly anyone can interpret the DNA of this classic Piemontese grape variety better than Rafaella and Giuseppe Bologna! In the mouth polished, dense, enormous amounts of glycerine and sweet fruit, present but silky tannins, finely enclosed by the fruit, finesse-rich, persistent, first-class acidity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby-violet. Intense nose with notes of pickled cherries, some wild raspberry, cardamom in the background. Juicy, very well developed cherry fruit, shows good tension, fine chocolate notes in the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 Barbera d’Asti Montebruna is laced with copious super-ripe dark cherry and plum fruit. Mocha, new leather, spice and dried flowers add layers to this forward, mid-weight Barbera from Braida. The 2019 is potent and earthy, with plenty of intrigue." Vinous

“Bricco della Bigotta” Barbera d’Asti DOC 2017
Bricco della Bigotta smells of cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, great finesse and harmonious balance between acidity and alcohol. Lingers long with character and class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of ripe black-skinned berry, scorched earth and baking spice emerge from the glass. The full-bodied, concentrated palate offers Marasca cherry, ripe black plum, black pepper and star anise." Wine Enthusiast
"A flamboyant barbera with ripe blackberries, but then it unleashes walnuts, vanilla and toasted oak that blasts at the end. The tannins tie it up nicely. Really fun and intense." James Suckling
"The Braida 2017 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta shows a lot of ripe fruit that is very much in line with this vintage that saw extra heat and drought. Across the region, vintners reported smaller berry sizes with dense and more-concentrated fruit. There is a lot to take in here, as the wine is rich, super concentrated and packed tight with plummy dark fruit flavor." Robert Parker

“Bricco dell’Uccellone” Barbera d’Asti DOC 2018 · MAGNUM
With tireless dedication, the Bologna family fulfils the legacy of Giacomo Bologna, who is rightly called the father of modern Barbera d'Asti. The historic jewel of the house is the Bricco dell'Uccellone: Dense and complex on the nose, tannic and persistent on the palate, with excellent structure and a beautiful acidity and flavour persistence. SUPERIORE.DE
"This historic wine put Barbera on the world wine map. It offers the richness and concentration of the Bricco della Bigotta, with the lighted style of the more immediate Montebruna. The character of the Braida 2018 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is more sophisticated and complex, with dark blackberry, toasted nutmeg and Spanish cedar. Wait for it, there's that pop of acidity on the close." Robert Parker

“Ai Suma” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Very intense ruby red with garnet reflections. Rich and complex bouquet, with numerous hints of fruit and underlying notes of vanilla, liquorice and cocoa. Full, powerful, full of character, but at the same time elegant and sensual taste, harmonious and very persistent. SUPERIORE.DE
"Here's a wine that seems to have absorbed the heat and bounty of the vintage with great success. The Braida 2017 Barbera d'Asti Ai Suma offers terrific balance and tension. There is a lot of black fruit here to be sure, and you taste pretty oak spice, tar and leather from the aging process. The wine finishes with a point of sweetness, like a candied cherry aroma, but the natural acidity of the grape kicks in to add a pinch of freshness on the close, making you seriously consider a risotto with porcini." The Bologna family has been successfully producing wine in Monferrato for about half a century. And her winery Braida has always been one of the most outstanding wineries in Piedmont. With the siblings Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, the third generation has taken over the management of the family business. In their work, the two oenologists combine modern knowledge with tradition. In the 1980s, her father Giacomo Bologna had broken new ground in dealing with the Barbera grape by daring for the first time to mature in barriques and giving the red variety the status of a noble vine. The name of the winery goes back to the grandfather of the current owners, Giuseppe Bologna, who used to nickname himself "Bologna" on village squares during ball games. "Braida" for the first time.
The production of the world-famous winery is mainly focused on Barbera, the most widespread grape variety in Piedmont. The winery also sees itself as a pioneer of the Barbera d'Asti. On the vineyards of the municipality of Rocchetta Tanaro the grapes for the flagship of the Braida winery and probably the most famous Barbera of all - the "Bricco dell'uccellones". In addition there are vines in Costigliole d'Asti and Castelnuovo Calcea as well as in the higher vineyards of Mango d'Alba and Trezzo Tinella. Raffaella and Giuseppe, in addition to the Barbera grape, are also dedicated to other indigenous grape varieties such as Moscato, Brachetto and Grignolino. Merlot, Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon also grow in the estate's own vineyards. The soils consist mostly of clay, lime and sand. The soil is usually loose to medium hard.
Uncompromising pursuit of quality, passion for the terroir, innovation and sustainability are the ingredients of Braida's success. The worldwide great recognition can be read not only in the cult wine "Bricco dell'uccellones"but also in the Barbera classic "Montebruna" and in "Bricco della Bigotta". All three plants have been alternated by the wine guide Gambero Rossoin the past years with "Three glasses" excellent. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barberas produced have always been so powerful, multi-layered and deep that they are the perfect expression of the modern interpretation of this vine."Gambero Rosso
