“Cremisi” Rosato Toscana IGT 2022 (BIO)
That Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara is not only clearly ahead with the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the family winery also proves with its Rosato Cremisi. Enticing and captivating nose of dried orange peel, flowers, ginger and nectarine. Soft and supple on the palate, yet very dynamic and energetic after citrus fruits, peppery herbs and green melon. The drinking flow is enormous, the salty tension combined with a subtle tangerine note provides lots of fun, excitement and freshness. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense, bright salmon colour. Fruity and inviting on the nose, on fresh strawberry and raspberry, plus a hint of herbal spice. On the palate a combination of pleasant fruit sweetness and invigorating acidity, juicy to the finish." Falstaff

“Selvabianca” Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG 2022 (BIO)
Already with his entry-level Vernaccia, Alessio Logi proves his class and also that the whites from San Gimignano can definitely play at the very top. Brilliant straw yellow with sparkling reflections. On the nose, powerful aromas of citrus fruits, honeydew melon, jasmine, flint, crushed oyster shells and a hint of coriander and basil. Taut and precise on the palate, yet rich in extract and with great acidity. Brilliantly clear and with an interesting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, pale straw yellow with a silvery touch. Opens invitingly on citrus fruit and crisp apricots, underpinned by a light mineral note. Fresh on the palate, with racy acidity, very linear, through to the juicy final." Falstaff
"Beautiful organic label, one of the reference products of its kind. A wine with a refined nose, notes of jasmine and yellow plums, meadow, dandelion, with a touch of cedar peel. Equally composed on the palate, salty, pleasantly elegant." Luca Gardini

“Campo della Pieve” Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG 2021 (BIO)
The Campo della Pieve vineyard (about 380 metres above sea level) faces southwest and has thicker soils and more tufa. The most recent parcel, recently acquired, is the highest to date at 400 metres above sea level. The site is more susceptible to wind and has good water retention thanks to the heavier clay soils.
Bright, light golden yellow. Delicate nose of fresh yellow apple, some peach, lemon balm, flint in the background. Round and smooth on the palate with a nice balance between acidity, freshness, citrus and tropical fruits, plus a discreet minerality. In keeping with the characteristics of the Vernaccia grape, the wine is not overly fruity, but shows an exciting spiciness that gives it personality and an added tension. SUPERIORE.DE
"Superb fruit aromas; pleases with its polish, elegance and finesse, which it also gets from the longer maceration." Vinum
"Bright straw yellow with a golden core. Fragrant and elegant bouquet, of yellow apple, balm, plus flint in the reverberation. Fresh and almost sparkling on the palate, with direct response, very fresh and taut, with a long finish." Falstaff
"A Vernaccia of crystalline elegance. Fermentation in steel, ageing on the lees. Citrusy on the nose, especially Sorrento lemon and apricot, a nice floral profile with hawthorn enhancing the olfactory sensation. Spicy on the palate, with good freshness and crispness to the end of the sip." Luca Gardini

“L’Albereta” Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva DOCG 2020 (BIO)
L'Albereta is Alessio Logi's top wine from the single vineyard of the same name, which is also farmed organically. It owes its unmistakable identity, among other things, to its rich, full-bodied texture. Due to the 12-month ageing in oak barrels, it presents itself rich in apricots, honey, cedar wood and toasted almonds. L'Albereta is a ripe and fleshy sunshine wine, flanked by smoke, spices and a delicate cinnamon note on the long and creamy finish. Great ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"L' Albereta already hints at its long-term potential, with intricate nuances of saffron underpinning honeydew melon and jasmine. Very refined and harmonious, the ripe acidity underpins layers of fragrant stone fruit, while a salty taste lifts the slightly phenolic finish. It's enjoyable now, but will become much richer and more complex over the next five to 12 years." Decanter
"Seductive mineral floral peach nose; vivid acidity that makes the wine feel exceedingly youthful and dapper, the lingering finish on flavours of elderflower, maquis and spice." Vinum

In the region around the imposing towers of the medieval town of San Gimignano, oenologist Alessio Logi has dedicated himself to what is probably Tuscany's most famous white wine. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is one of the oldest white wines in Italy, mentioned in records dating back to 1276 and in Dante's Divine Comedy. This white wine is therefore characterised by a centuries-old history of great storage potential and complex flavour aromas.
The Tuscan Vernaccia grape variety, which however should not be confused with the red Vernatsch from South Tyrol, captivates with a great expressive potential, through which it shows how the territory and its cultivation affect the taste. The young winemaker was inspired by his father Mario to extract the complex flavours of this white variety from his vineyards in an environmentally friendly way.
In a region as famous for red wine as Tuscany, Alessio has been passionately pressing his highly awarded Vernaccia white wines at his Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara winery since 2002. He is assisted in the cellar by his older brothers Giampiero and Stefano, while their eighty-something father Mario still sets the pace in the vineyards.
"My father taught me that the vines are a reflection of the soil and that you can improve the quality in the cellar, but not change it," Alessio tells us in conversation. That is why the clayey soils of his vineyards have been cultivated only according to organic guidelines from day one. Since working closely with the gifted oenologist Nicola Berti, the winemaker has also been working with much shorter maceration times, bringing out the fruity, spicy taste of the Vernaccia grape and its typically fine, tart almond note much more precisely.
What impresses us most about this family-run winery is the combination of the father's many years of experience and the contemporary awareness of the three sons to dedicate themselves to their Vernaccia production with respect for the environment - which is undoubtedly reflected in the great personality, structure and storability of their organic white wines.
From the refreshingly fruity Selvabianca, fermented in stainless steel, Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara's portfolio ranges to creamier, richer versions such as the powerful single-vineyard Campo alla Pieve or the 25-hectolitre barrel-aged Riserva Albereta. This diversity does credit to the history and reputation of this ancient white wine from San Gimignano and is a guarantee of uncompromising top quality. SUPERIORE.DE
