    • "Villa Donoratico" Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2017

“Villa Donoratico” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2017

A rich, deep, dark ruby. Dense and catchy nose, lots of currants. Builds pleasant pressure on the palate. Mature, dark berries and a smooth and dense tannin lead into a long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"A ripe, plush version, featuring mouthfilling blackberry, plum and spice flavors. Firm and dense, with a line of tannins on the earth-tinged finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2017 Bolgheri Rosso Villa Donoratico is a thickly concentrated wine that pours from the bottle with generous flavors of blackberry and plum that are woven together with spice, tobacco and campfire ash. You can feel the power and exuberance of the dark primary fruit in this warm vintage. However, it does not lack freshness and acidity, which are ultimately what brings the wine into balance. Go to Villa Donoratico for great value." Robert Parker

    • "Argentiera" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016

      “Argentiera” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016

Rich, noble cuvée from the winery of the same name: aromas of red fruits, a light hint of roasted coffee and animal notes, an excellent tannin structure and a beautiful acidity give the "Bordeaux from Bolgheri" its exceptional independence and elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling dark ruby red. A lot of crunchy, dark berry fruit, cassis, elderberries and blackberries, a little dark tobacco gives tension. Full and close to the palate, opens with dense tannin, runs as if on rails, full finish." Falstaff

"Rich, with black currant, plum, loamy earth, vanilla and toasty oak spice aromas and flavors, backed by a spine of dense tannins and vibrant acidity, lingering with ample fruit, herb and spice notes." Wine Spectator

"Finally Argentiera returns to excellence, following several years of wines falling below expectations due to various changes. The estate is located at the southernmost border of the appellation. In 2016, possibly because of the high percentage of Merlot in the blend, the wine shows great complexity from straw notes and earthy tones in a sort of Right Bank style, with meaty cassis fruit and a slightly leaner body full of finesse. The tannins in this vintage are almost silky from this higher altitude part of the appellation, at 200 metres above sea level." Decanter

"Love the complexity to this with lots of rosemary and lavender that complement the currant and violet character. Full-bodied, yet extremely polished and tight on the palate. The tannins are ever so fine. Extremely long and beautiful. Another excellent wine, after the superb 2015." James Suckling

"This is a dark Tuscan red that is beautifully elevated, thanks to the extremely elegant and buoyant quality of the aromas. They lift gracefully from the glass with light-footed, almost fleeting character. However, don't underestimate the power and the concentration of the wine, because this vintage delivers both with abundance. I've had my eye on this estate since the vineyards were first planted some 20 years ago, and there is no doubt that this vintage brings Tenuta Argentiera into a new era as a Bolgheri protagonist." “Bartholomäus” Merlot Toscana IGT 2008 · 0,75l in OWC

"Intense, bright ruby violet. Intense and complex nose, seductive, much dark raspberry, plums, liquorice. On the palate round and smooth, opening with a grippy, dense tannin, much sweet fruit melt, in the finale rich fruit." Falstaff

"Big juicy wine with lots of plums and milk chocolate with hints of walnuts on the nose and palate. Full and very velvety, almost jammy but turns fresh and soft. Verges on being Californian in style with 15% alcohol. Slightly over the top for me but some may really like it." James Suckling

"Broad and concentrated, sporting cherry, licorice, leather and saline-mineral flavors allied to a beefy frame. Firmly structured, with character expressed in a frank, rustic way." Wine Spectator

"This Merlot opens with savory aromas of spice and cured meat, followed by notes of blackberry preserves and black currant. It shows some secondary aromas of leather and pipe tobacco, plus lingering tones of rum cake, licorice and tar. There's a fresh, almost menthol-like quality to the palate, which offers tight, polished tannins and long savory flavors." Wine Enthusiast

“Lavinia Maria” Cabernet Toscana IGT 2011 · in OWC

The youngest scion of this exceptional winery is a pure Cabernet Franc: intense fruity bouquet of blackberry and blackcurrant, spicy notes such as black pepper, laurel and nutmeg, with elegant ethereal notes. Full, smooth and harmonious on the palate, the tannins silky-sweet, generous and long-lasting. The finale is reminiscent of a fresh sea breeze. Exquisite! SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep dark, rich ruby violet. Very compact nose with intense dark berry fruit, hints of blackberries and blueberries, underlaid with rich liquorice. Fine-grained tannin present on the palate, builds up in many layers, in the aftertaste full of liquorice and plums, blooms again after a longer aeration." Falstaff

"Dense, with black cherry, black currant, sweet spice and licorice flavors, this red is vibrant and harmonious. The tannins are thickset, yet civilized and integrated with the texture. Monolithic now, so be patient." Wine Spectator

    About the winemakers
    Argentiera
    Tuscany | Bolgheri
    Argentiera

Of all the wineries in the Bolgheri DOC, Tenuta Argentiera, located on a small plateau in the extreme south and surrounded by a varied natural environment, is the closest to the sea. From the top of the vineyards you have a wonderful view over Baratti in the south to Castiglioncello in the north, complemented by the panorama of the archipelago of Elba, Gorgona, Capraia with Corsica in the background. In Etruscan times, the plateau of the estate was home to natural springs and silver mines - hence the name Argentiera (Italian: Argento/Silver). Formerly owned by the influential Florentine noble family Serristorti and part of the ancient Donoratico estate, the winery, located between Livorno and Grosseto, is now a reference point for the Tuscan cultivation zone.

With plants of extraordinary elegance and great suppleness, the still very young winery has acquired its reputation as one of the most prestigious addresses in the Bolgheri region within just a few years. The fact that the first bottling in the Tenuta Argentiera was already a great success is thanks to Piero Antinori, a famous partner who brought all his experience to the new project and who is jointly responsible for the quality of the wines improving year after year. The 80 hectares of vineyards of the estate owners - the brothers and well-known Florentine entrepreneurs Corrado and Marcello Fratini - are almost ideally located and some of the most beautiful in the area. They are by far the highest cultivated areas in the Bolgheri DOC. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah thrive on the mostly clayey soils with considerable amounts of gravel.

The grapes, selected by hand, are processed with the greatest care in the magnificent and generously designed winery. More than a thousand barrique barrels made of French oak wood are stored in the rooms intended for the maturation of the plants. The wines of the house are the logical consequence of the very high-quality berries and their unerring interpretation. Very often the prestige wine Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc, is highly appreciated by the critics' guild. A few years ago, two immaculate single vineyard wines - Giorgio Bartholomäus (Merlot) and Ophelia Maria, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, joined this top-quality plant. The youngest offspring of the noble bottle family is the pure Cabernet Franc Lavinia Maria, which convinced the critics from a standing start. SUPERIORE.DE

"In 2002 the first Argentiera was produced, an elegant cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc - a vertical starter."Falstaff
