From the vineyards near the historic villa, where the woods reach the sea, comes a visionary interpretation of Vermentino – a wine that allows the inexhaustible possibilities of this ancient grape variety to shine in a completely new light. Scenario embodies five years of research at Tenuta Argentiera, a meticulous study of the evolutionary potential of Vermentino that culminated in various vinification and ageing experiments between 2020 and 2022. The grapes for this exceptional Bolgheri Bianco ripen high up at 260 metres above sea level, in small plots close to the protective forests where maritime breezes meet centuries-old pine trees. Only 8,000 bottles are produced annually from this carefully curated Vermentino in its purest form – a precious witness to that unique microclimate between the sea and the Mediterranean scrub.

The 2023 vintage reveals all the sophistication of this research project: 85% of the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and concrete to preserve the primary fruit intensity, while 15% undergoes subtle ageing in untoasted "cigares" barrels made of steam-bent wood – a vinification approach that gives the wine structural depth without compromising its crystalline freshness. Nine months of ageing reveal a rare complexity: aromas of white flowers and stone fruit interweave with herbaceous notes of sage and a delicate saltiness from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. The true greatness of this white wine is revealed on the palate – lively and accessible, with a mineral structure that combines elegance with impressive ageing potential. The aromas are reminiscent of the sea spray on the Italian coast, with a mineral tone framing dried white flowers and smoky grilled lemon slices. Fermentation took place in a combination of ceramic vats and a smaller portion aged for eight to nine months in oak barrels. This is an experimental wine for Bolgheri, both in the choice of grape variety and fermentation vats. The mouthfeel offers a vibrant intensity balanced by a wonderfully rich texture.
