“Poderuccio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 (BIO)

Intense and pure fruit bouquet. Lively on the palate with beautiful fruit components and hints of the origin of clayey and calcareous soils. Well-knit tannins lead this refined cuvée to a soft and respectable finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lots of blackberries and tar, together with black-olive character on the nose and palate. Full-bodied and structured. A little raw, but should come around nicely with bottle age." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

The fragrance is dominated by black cherry and ripe berries, plums and cocoa. The palate is dominated by fruitiness, accompanied by polished tannins and spicy aftertaste. This elegant and medium-weight Brunello is already a pleasure at a young age! SUPERIORE.DE

"Shining ruby. Emphasizes spicy nose, after red pepper and leather, in the reverberation sealing wax, then again liquorice, also peach. Salty on the palate with handy tannin, grips, powerful, spicy drink, lingers on for a long time, good future." Falstaff

"The Camigliano 2015 Brunello di Montalcino sees fruit from a 50-hectare vineyard planted 300 to 350 meters above sea level. The soils show lots of variation with clay, sand, rock and marine fossils. The wine's bouquet reveals classic Brunello characteristics of wild berry, forest floor, pressed rose petal, crushed stone and spice. You also get those typical balsam and herbal tones that are so specific to Montalcino. In fact, I argue that they come across with even more intensity in a beautifully balanced and sunny vintage such as 2015. This wine ages in 60-hectoliter botti for 24 months, making for a firm yet surprisingly streamlined mouthfeel." Robert Parker

"A bright and elegant Brunello that suggests sliced oranges, tulips and rose petals. Medium-to full-bodied and finely structured, drawing on silky layers of tannins and a vibrant edge of acidity." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Paesaggio Inatteso" DOCG 2012

Brunello di Montalcino “Paesaggio Inatteso” DOCG 2012

The new and very elegant selection Paesaggio Inatteso comes from Camigliano's 3.5 ha vineyard "La Magia", which has mineral and calcareous soils. Due to the outstanding grape quality in 2012, the winery decided to vinify it separately. Only 6,600 bottles of this debut vintage were filled. The result is an intense and very pleasant scent of liquorice and dark berries, full-bodied on the palate with clear fruit, silky tannins and a fine mineral undertone in the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Complex aromas of dried flowers and walnuts follow through to a medium to full body, a solid core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, flavorful finish." James Suckling

"This is a new entry wine from the historic Camigliano estate. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso offers a more robust style and more impactful aromatic intensity. The bouquet grabs you by the nose, so to speak. This seems to be a super charged version of the Brunello annata with a more luscious and enriched personality. I feel as if Paesaggio Inatteso ("unexpected scenery" in Italian) is crafted as a means of offering consumers a more approachable wine that can be consumed in the near term at their favorite restaurant." Robert Parker

"This is opulent, sporting cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco flavors. Features a coarse weave of tannins, but the elements hang together nicely, picking up graphite and earth accents on the lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"Bright red with an amber rim. Delicate, perfumed nose of sweet spices, violet and sour red cherries. Fresh and lively, with smooth tannins. The fine-grained, long finish features red berry and floral reminders." Ian d’Agata (vinous.com)

The Paesaggio Inatteso selection comes from Camigliano's 3.5-hectare vineyard "La Magia", which has mineral and calcareous soils. The 2015 edition presents itself more robust and intense than the classic Annata of the house. Bright ruby red. In the nose cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco aromas, on the palate taut, precise and full of personality. The tannins are soft and well integrated, making it an opulent, powerful and long-lasting pleasure from a young age. SUPERIORE.DE

"Elegant, brilliant ruby grenade. Very fresh and fruity nose, of juicy, freshly plucked cherries, some raspberry and pomegranate. Round and smooth in the beginning and the course, shows also in the mouth much present berry fruit, polished tannin." Falstaff

"The purity and focus to this young Brunello is certainly impressive with crushed berries and flowers, as well as burnt orange peel on the nose. Full body. Firm and silky tannins with an intense backbone and focus. A seriously structured and balanced red. Drink after 2022." James Suckling

"This wine sees fruit from a three-hectare site (at 300 meters above sea level) with loamy sand soils. This is a very special wine with a unique set of aromas. It shows pronounced Mediterranean accents of rosemary, lavender and dried basil leaf. The wine's fruit profile is also front and center with wild berry and dried cassis. The mouthfeel is silky, lean and topped off by well integrated tannins." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Gualto" Riserva DOCG 2010

Brunello di Montalcino “Gualto” Riserva DOCG 2010

Camigliano's spectacular Riserva Gualto from the peak year 2010 reveals with wonderful clarity and freshness aromas of cherry, fresh flowers, minerals, spices, tar and oak wood. Consistently modern style, already very pleasant to drink today, finely polished tannin, long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Camigliano's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gualto is a dark, saturated and compact wine that shows a very unique interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. Camigliano occupies one of the best microclimates for dark, velvety and opulent Brunello that does very nicely in a classic vintage like 2010 with a slower overall growth cycle. The plump fruit stands up nicely to the firm tannins and acidity of the mouthfeel. In all, this is a balanced wine with softness and extra richness." Robert Parker

"This shows fabulous length and structure with complexity andintensity that is stunning. Aromas and flavors of dried mushrooms, darkberries, dried meat, mahogany and plums. A full-bodied red that goes onfor minutes. Best ever from Camigliano!" James Suckling

"A fluid, expressive style, full of cherry, plum, truffle, eucalyptus, and tobacco flavors. Fine balance and a lively structure keep this focused and long on the finish. Decant now, or cellar another year or two." Wine Spectator

    About the winemakers
    Camigliano
    Tuscany | Montalcino
    Camigliano

For more than five decades the Camigliano winery has been producing excellent quality wines under the leadership of the Ghezzi family. This is no surprise, as the Milanese founder Walter Ghezzi has always had a passion for agriculture. In the meantime, his son Gualtiero and his wife Laura have helped the winery, located in the south-west of the hamlet of Camigliano near Montalcino, to flourish again with great personal commitment and considerable investment. Both also revived the historical settlement and thus ensured its continued existence.

The Ghezzi family has built a new spacious underground cellar, which blends unobtrusively into the beautiful landscape around Montalcino and, thanks to modern technology, makes work much easier. The classic wines are mostly matured in barrels with volumes of 50 and 60 hectolitres. The Brunello holdings - which occupy about 50 hectares of the total 90 hectares of Sangiovese Grosso vineyards - were renewed after the turn of the millennium, which has considerably improved the quality of the wines. The owners prefer a high stock density per hectare. A cloning and mass selection from old vineyards should give the wines produced at the estate a further boost in quality. The noble plants of Camigliano thrive on clay and silt soils, which contain a fairly high proportion of marl and fossil layers. The yields are deliberately kept low, at less than 40 hectolitres per hectare. Since 2017 all vineyards and also the olive groves are certified organic.

The Brunello di Montalcino and the Brunello Riserva "Gualto", along with a number of other grape juices, have been repeatedly awarded high prizes by wine critics. On the estate, which has its own agriturismo, there are also 25 hectares of olive groves. The fruits are used to produce the high-quality Extra Vergine, which is now also certified organic and of which there is unfortunately far too little every year. SUPERIORE.DE

"Our compliments to the Ghezzi family, who firmly believed in the potential of this area, and to the oenologist Lorenzo Landi, who absolutely skilfully realized this potential and created such personality strong wines. Gambero Rosso
