It was 1991 when Michele Satta planted his first Syrah vine in Bolgheri – an act of rebellion in a still young appellation that was just beginning to find its identity. The visionary winemaker from Varese followed a clear conviction: The Syrah should maximise the aromatic complexity of the Mediterranean terroir and at the same time express his personal identification with the great wines of the Rhône. Thirty years later, this exotic wine has matured into one of Bolgheri's most fascinating single-vineyard wines.

Satta knew from the outset that his Syrah vineyards would have to age for at least 15 years to realise the full potential of this inexhaustible grape variety. This patience has paid off: the 2021 vintage embodies the mature completion of a long-standing experiment that has long since become a triumph. The hand-picked and selected grapes ferment in 30 hl oak barrels exclusively with natural yeasts. Great attention is paid to the time of harvest and the duration of maceration in order to extract soft tannins and optimally emphasise the aromatic richness of this Mediterranean interpretation of Syrah. After malolactic fermentation in the vats, the wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barriques – a maturation process that gives the wine its characteristic depth and complexity.

Bright ruby red in colour. The nose reveals a fragrant, appealing character with pronounced fresh cherries, ripe raspberries and a hint of wild strawberries, plus rosehips, blood oranges and delicate floral notes. A structured, lively and fresh Syrah of great elegance on the palate – savoury texture meets remarkable freshness, very lively and with great nervousness.
