Anrar is the answer to a simple question: what happens when South Tyrol's second most important red grape variety is given time in wood? While the classic Pinot Nero retains its freshness in stainless steel, Anrar takes a different approach. Approx. 12 months in French barriques for malolactic fermentation and further ageing. No wood show, but elegant integration. That makes the difference. But not alone: the best Pinot Nero vineyards around Andriano provide the grapes. Altitudes between 350 and 450 metres, where the calcareous clay soils are interspersed with dolomite rock. The cooler microclimate ensures slow ripening, more acidity and finer tannins. Perfect for a Pinot Nero with Burgundian ambitions.

Medium-dense ruby red colour with a fine garnet sheen. Complex and refined on the nose: Red cherries and raspberries dominate, along with notes of pomegranate and undergrowth, black tea and a hint of oriental spices. Subtle roasted flavours from the barrel ageing round off the aroma spectrum. Concentrated and elegant at the same time on the palate. Velvety tannins envelop the juicy fruit, while the lively acidity provides vigour and balance. The wood ageing gives the wine additional texture without masking the typical Pinot Nero elegance. Light ruby red in the glass. Delicate aroma of red berries, also some rhubarb and herbal spice. On the palate, it is emphatically taut, with noticeable tannins, a salty flavour and a cool style. "The 2022 Pinot Noir Riserva Anrar is a fleshed-out wine with a sophisticated approach that comes thanks to longer oak and bottle age. Fermentation starts off in stainless steel, and secondary fermentation is finished in barrique after light cap management with pump-overs. Dark currant, conifer and sweet spice stand to attention over a mid-weight finish. Fruit comes from a site at 470 meters above sea level on clay and reddish calcareous soils with layers of white dolomitic rock. These conditions add to the extra intensity you taste here."
