Juvelo is Andrian's crowning glory. A wine that only comes into being when nature plays its part. December in South Tyrol – whilst others have long since brought in their harvest, a few Gewürztraminer vines here are still waiting for the perfect moment. The grapes remain on the vine until they show clear signs of noble rot. Botrytis cinerea, the "noble rot", perforates the skin of the berries and allows the water to evaporate. What remains is pure concentration. The harvest are harvest by hand, selected berry by berry. There's no rush. The grapes are gently pressed, then fermentation begins in small oak barrels. This is followed by 11 months' ageing in barriques – the time this wine needs to develop its complexity.

Juvelo shimmers in the glass, ranging from golden yellow to amber, almost like liquid precious metal. The bouquet is complex: honey and vanilla, accompanied by candied orange peel, ripe apricots and quinces. Delicate toasty aromas from the oak ageing blend with the typical botrytis notes – a symphony of scents that calls for time and contemplation. On the palate, the full power of the Passito is revealed. Full-bodied and creamy, yet never heavy. The high residual sweetness is perfectly balanced by lively acidity – the secret of great sweet wines. The finish is endlessly long, characterised by exotic fruits and spicy accents. This is a wine for special moments: to accompany blue-veined cheeses, creamy desserts or simply on its own as the crowning glory of a memorable evening. SUPERIORE.DE
