Of the three Baroli from Pecchenino, Le Coste di Monforte shows the most focus and sharpness. The other two wines are much softer in their aromatic focus compared to this wine. Le Coste di Monforte offers dark fruits, balsamic herbs, spices, campfire ash and ferruginous earth in beautifully balanced proportions. This wine has a long maceration period of 60 days (at 28 degrees Celsius), which is followed by 36 months of ageing in oak barrels. This gives the wine its rich flavour profile. Ceretto vinifies four masterful site Baroli with the Bricco Rocche, Bussia, Brunate and Prapò. If you cannot decide between these wines, you will find this excellent alternative in the winery's basic Barolo.

Elegant, bright ruby red. Dark intensity with great aromatic richness, including ripe cherry and raspberry, paired with noble spice and gentle use of wood. Bussia 2019 is a powerful, intense wine that shows great depth and intensity, with a powerful tannin that gives the wine its masculine, virile personality. Although it is already very expressive, it still needs some time in the bottle so that the tannins can calm down a little. The grapes for the house's classic Barolo come from the sites/communes of Ornato, La Serra, Briccolina in Serralunga d'Alba, Gustava and Garretti in Grinzane Cavour, Roncaglie in La Morra, Ravera in Novello and, from the 2015 vintage, Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba. It is more of a traditional, classic Barolo with an exciting bouquet of deep, dark fruits and a pretty potpourri of rose petals, spices, smoke and tar. The grapes for the estate's classic Barolo come from the vineyards/communes of Ornato, La Serra, Briccolina in Serralunga d'Alba, Gustava and Garretti in Grinzane Cavour, Roncaglie in La Morra, Ravera in Novello and, from the 2015 vintage, also from Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba. It is more of a traditional, classic Barolo with an exciting bouquet of deep, dark fruit and a pretty potpourri of rose petals, spices, smoke and tar. It is full-bodied and firm on the palate, opening up with plenty of dense tannins, very powerful, with pressure and a full bite on the finish, designed for a long life. SUPERIORE.DE

G.D. Vajra's Ravera (whose site straddles the municipalities of Novello and Barolo) is always the most angular, powerful and vertical of their collection. It comes from soils with clay and sandstone at 320 to 340 metres above sea level. This is the ideal place for wines that show both power and elegance. The tannins are sweet, but every fibre of the backbone is dense and firm. Red and purple fruits with liquorice, tar and white truffle are neatly packed here, revealing themselves only gradually but then with beautiful precision and straightforwardness. The vivacious Chiara Boschis has been a rather modernist Barolo winemaker for over 25 years, although she now uses much less new oak than in the past. She is best known for her Cannubi, but her Mosconi, from 1 ha of this top vineyard in Monforte d'Alba, can be just as good in some vintages.

Medium to deep crimson. Very nice nose of earthy, complex cherry and blackberry fruit with subtle oak notes and a hint of pine. On the palate juicy and smooth red fruit, very concentrated. Delicious, crisp tannins. It is a plump, full-bodied and very concentrated wine that is assertive and youthful when young - but in balance. The single vineyard Serradenari is currently the highest in the Barolo area and is also the historic site of the appellation (MGA - Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva). The cool and mountainous climate with its clay and marl soils gives rise to a Nebbiolo that makes few words - it is precise, clear and unambiguous.

All the more exciting when the result opens up with some aeration and maturity and reveals its full range of sensuality and loveliness. An impressive wine that leaves little to be desired in terms of finesse and clarity, were it not for the one or two secrets that still lie dormant here, which only become apparent when you fully indulge in this aristocratic growth. Cerretto is a fruit-driven wine of virile, explosive power that shows, among other things, how different the wines of Serralunga can be.
