Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2020
Bright, shining ruby. Youthful nose of early ripe cherries and wild strawberries, slightly vegetal, delicately peppery and spicy in the aftertaste. On the palate very juicy and with young tannin, crisp fruit, high drinkability, in a few months still complete, great food companion. SUPERIORE.DE
"The change in the winery is most evident here. Much more precise, purer than previous vintages. Enormously fragrant, fresh and crisp, with red fruits, cherry, raspberry. Extremely animating to drink with fine tannin, remains delicate and elegant until the final. Very animating. Bravo!" Weinwisser
"Their easy-drinking 2020 Morellino di Scansano delivers lots of soft cherry and sweet ripeness. This Sangiovese-based wine also shows Mediterranean herb and wild rose. These are fresh and immediate results to pair with a plate of cheese ravioli in sage and butter sauce. The wine concludes with a soft, accessible personality." Robert Parker
"Made with 90% Sangiovese and 10% Ciliegiolo, this opens with aromas of red-skinned berry, underbrush and baking spice. The bright palate offers dried red cherry, star anise and white pepper alongside velvety tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Plenty of sweet berries and cherries with hints of burnt orange. It’s medium-bodied with a caressing, creamy structure. Pretty fruit at the end. Balanced and beautiful. Always satisfies." James Suckling

“Rosamati” Rosato Toscana IGT 2020
Fruity, floral and delicately spicy nuances on the nose. Fresh texture on the palate, pleasant red berry flavour with notes of grapefruit and blood orange. A drinking pleasure full of character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very fresh, lively and authentic bouquet, herbal, with a touch of fresh oregano, almost floral, with pink grapefruit. A persistent rose that is juicy and has great substance." Weinwisser
"Bright orange-pink with a sparkling core. The nose is restrained and filigree, discreet orange tone. On the palate polished and clear, tightens up with discreet melting, slightly salty, spans a fine arc, slightly bitter in the final." Falstaff
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2020 RosaMati is made with Syrah from what was previously considered to be two vineyard plots that have now been made into a single vineyard. This Tuscan rosato shares many similarities with a Provençal rosé from right up the coast on the Via Aurelia that links Italy and France. A small part of the wine is fermented in tonneaux, adding slightly more textural richness to this wine. Raspberry and wild cherry segue to garden herb and violets." Robert Parker
"A pink grapefruit-colored rosé with aromas of wild raspberries, cherries and citrus zest. Hints of spice. It's medium-bodied with bright acidity and flavorful, creamy layers of fruit. Delicious finish." James Suckling

“Poggio Argentato” Bianco Toscana IGT 2020
Poggio Argentato is a beautifully balanced white with a French touch. On the nose, a multi-layered bouquet with a fine herbal note. On the palate, powerful, fresh, elegant and supported by a mineral acidity, citrus tones in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A blend of rather light soils. In the fragrance a nice mix of almonds, herbs, behind fresh pear. Very juicy with nice acidity and piquancy coming from the P. Manseng. Nice grip with a lovely salty mineral final." Weinwisser
"Sliced pears, apples, lemon pips and some fennel on the nose. It's medium-to full-bodied with a creamy texture. Clean and fresh finish." James Suckling
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Argentato is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminer and Semillon, and the percentage of Sauvignon Blanc in this vintage was raised from 60% of the blend to 70%. This slight adjustment makes a big impact on the wine's perfumes, especially in a hot vintage such as this. Cold temperatures during pressing and the use of stainless steel helps to lock in tropical aromas, minty apple and crushed limestone. The Petit Manseng helps to give more vertical lift to the bouquet." Robert Parker

“Solalto” Maremma Toscana IGT 2013 dolce
Radiant, precise dessert wine from the varieties Traminer, Sauvignon and Semillon from the sun-blessed Maremma in the south of Tuscany. Precious and delicious, the wine opens with a bright golden colour with amber reflections. In the bouquet hints of dried fruits, honey, pressed rose petals and candied almonds. Soft sweetness on the palate, wonderfully flattering finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Featuring the artwork of the promising young artist Clara (daughter to Fattoria le Pupille owner Elisabetta Geppetti) on its front label, the 2013 SolAlto is an air-dried dessert wine with a bright and luminous appearance. The grapes in the blend include Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, and the wine is released in a 375-milliliter bottle. This is a viscous and rich expression with dried apricot and honey, backed by almond and baked apple with cinnamon. This vintage is viscous and rich, and perfect for an apple pie a la mode." “Poggio Valente” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Poggio Valente comes from a single vineyard of the same name at an altitude of about 300m. Opulent floral and small-fruited Sangiovese nose with optimally nuanced hints of tobacco, cedar and mint. Precise on the palate with lots of pressure and power, then towards the end the furious resolution of all the well-dosed components in a fine, silky texture and an unforgettable, long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"A red with intensity on a weightless frame, leaving plenty of room for cherry, blackberry, chocolate, nutmeg and white pepper flavors to shine. The tannins are present, yet uplifting rather than obtrusive." Wine Spectator
"This wine always stands out in my mind, and it's worth dedicating a few words as to why. Poggio Valente offers us a rare opportunity to taste Sangiovese made according to the highest standards but from a territory - on the Tuscan Coast - that does not share a big legacy with monovarietal Sangiovese reds. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Valente was born in a happy vintage with a cool spring and a growing season that had plenty of underground water reserves to keep the vines hydrated well until the end of August. This is a full and generous wine with dark cherry and wild plum aromas that segue to tar, licorice and crushed slate." Robert Parker
"This is very dense and structured with stone and blackberry character. Full-bodied and intense with chewy tannins that frame the wine. Flavorful finish. Smoky and lightly bitter, in a good way. Pure sangiovese. This needs time to soften." James Suckling

“Poggio Valente” Rosso Toscana DOC 2018 · MAGNUM
Poggio Valente 2018 from the single vineyard of the same name - has it ever been better? Opulent floral and small-fruited Sangiovese nose with optimally nuanced hints of tobacco, cedar and mint. On the palate, precise and with a lot of pressure and power, then towards the end, the furious resolution of all the well-dosed components in a fine, silky texture and an unforgettable, long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Single vineyard, located about 300 to 350 m.a.s.l., 3 to 4 weeks maceration, so a little longer. Matured in tonneaux from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Already clearly more complex on the nose than the Morellino. Its fine smokiness is complemented by wonderful notes of raspberry, fragolino and fine liquorice. In the mouth very elegant, downright subtle with sweet tannins, infused with a delicate raspberry note, very fine and seductive. What a value for money!" Weinwisser
"Radiant ruby red. In the nose with fine-fragrant hints, rich cherry fruit, lightly of white truffle, spicy, of red pepper, opens multilayered. Tightly woven palate entry with juicy, salty fruit, stretches clearly over the tongue, salty again in the final, very well done this year." Falstaff
"Rich and spicy, evoking plum, cherry, sandalwood and cigar box aromas and flavors. Though solidly built, this is also fluid, echoing spice notes on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Really pretty balance and focus to this red with plums, berries, cherries, currants and hints of vanilla and hazelnuts. It's medium-to full-bodied with refined tannins and a clean, fruity finish. Very elegant. Pure sangiovese." James Suckling
"Tasted from vat, the Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente is an elegant expression of Sangiovese with just a hint of the freewheeling wildness that characterizes the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. The wine delivers cherry, wild rose, forest fruit and blueberry. Beyond those primary tones are integrated notes of spice and mild tobacco. The wine is put together with careful precision, and all it needs now is more aging time in order to flesh out and build depth. Everything is set, just give it time." Robert Parker
"Complex, restrained, super clean, tobacco, leather, cinnamon, cassis, black and red currants and hints of smoke. Full body, balanced with sweet fruit and noble tannins." Decanter

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
Deep dark ruby red. Floral nose with lots of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. Supple and elegant on the palate with a wonderful depth and structure. Then herbs again, plus violets, some plum and a hint of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you until it then moves into a very long and harmonious finish with an impressive presence and finesse. One of Italy's great wines full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, very rich ruby red with purple-violet edges. Wow, the Saffredi always reveals a fascinating orgy of scents. Dense and warm, with blackberry fruit, especially ripe blackberry and cassis, underpinned by herbaceous-ethereal and wonderfully floral notes, liquorice as well as a hint of bacon spice and earthy tobacco notes resonate. The voluminous palate is wonderfully dense and engaging, framed and supported by gripping tannins and juicy, ethereal freshness. The juicy conciseness with the deep spiciness is style-defining here, as are the apart-balsamic notes with the dark nougat chocolate and tobacco in the final." Weinwisser
"Shiny, rich ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Very expressive and deep nose, opens with notes of tobacco and damp earth, then full of cassis, some mint in the background, multilayered. On the palate very powerful and with lots of sweet melting, dark berry fruit, plus some liquorice in the finish, very long lasting." Falstaff
"A light touch of wild herbs and oak spice frame the saturated flavors of black cherry and plum in this open-knit red, with a dusting of tannins lining the finish. Shows fine harmony and length." Wine Spectator
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it." Robert Parker
"The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine's overall balance and poise that are so impressive today. The 2018 is an absolutely gorgeous Saffredi. Don't miss it." Vinous
"A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It's racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. This needs at least two or three years to soften." James Suckling

Syrah Toscana IGT 2015
Le Pupille has a new wine. A long cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its completion in this crescence. This 100% Syrah builds on everything that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained world renown. The best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, clever and innovative winemaking combined with a clearly recognizable signature and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.
The grapes for the first vintage (2015) of this exceptional wine come from the two estate vineyards Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler site, with just 5 hectares, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500l clay amphoras. The grapes of the east-facing vineyard La Vigna del Palo are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then married and matured in 300l barriques for another 10 months before the wines are then bottle aged for another 22 months.
Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. In the nose fresh notes of red berry fruits and spices, hints of black pepper. On the palate it is complex, with gripping tannin, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has a great storage potential and is for us the classic meditation wine in appearance and expression. SUPERIORE.DE
"Densely woven, with super-fine tannin, dark berry fruit, hints of brown bread, dried goya berries, brine syrup and a slightly iodine note: an elegant, special wine that has absolutely nothing in common with the Syrah plants of the Northern Rhône, even if this is repeatedly claimed. I drank the 2015 at Milan's Restaurant Vun, where two-star chef Andrea Aprea served it with a shoulder of lamb and malted barley. Phenomenal." Dr. Jens Priewe (weinkenner.de)
"Mineral and spicy bouquet, very elegant and calming, yet very broad with earthy and tobacco notes with iron notes reminiscent of blood. Surprisingly fruity on the palate, but clear as a bell, almost pure and crisp, completely different style, very exciting and with a lot of finesse. A top Maremma Syrah." Weinwisser
"After a little aeration delicate aromas of dark forest fruits, flowers, spicy and smoky notes; polished in the mouth, the fine-grained tannins and the airy acidity in balance, shows race and cut to the final. Elegant, full of esprit and a delightful proof that a Syrah from Tuscany cannot be compared to any other Syrah (or Shiraz) in the world". Vinum
"This debut vintage is a classic expression of Syrah. With fruit drawn from 34-year-old vines, fermented both in terracotta amphorae (acquired from the Manetti family of Fontodi fame) and open-top tonneaux, then aged ten months in French barrique, the 2015 Le Pupille shows all the typical notes of Syrah and a nice roundness of tannin. It is a very tight wine that is layered and beautiful, carefully crafted to avoid reduction. This new line should be a winner for years to come. Congratulations." Robert Parker
"This is a new wine from Le Pupille and made in amphorae and large barrels. The aromas are a dead ringer for Côte-Rôtie! So much smoked meat, spice and dark fruit. Full-bodied, juicy and succulent with plenty of dark fruit and then a long and flavorful finish that shows gamey and earthy undertones. Clean and vivid. 3,000 bottles produced." James Suckling

SUPERIORE.DE
"The second vintage of this single-varietal Syrah from the coast, a selection of grapes from two vineyards: still somewhat restrained nose with notes of plums, dark berries and spices; complex texture with accentuated acidity and fine-meshed tannin, the final elegant and long. Wonderfully built wine with ageing potential." Vinum
"The grapes come from the cooler, east-facing vineyard "La Vigna del Palo". They are fermented in different clay amphorae and then matured in 300-litre barriques for a further 10 months, followed by a further 22 months in bottle. The bouquet is expansively spicy, expressive, with red and a touch of green pepper, red pepper, plus tobacco, liquorice and ripe blackberries. Has become much more precise and a bit "calmer" compared to the online tasting in January, because quite young it presented itself with wild, iodine notes. It is much finer now. What has remained is the wonderful spiciness with the salty-mineral notes." Weinwisser
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2016 Le Pupille is an ambitious expression of amphorae-fermented Syrah. It presents cherry and dark plum, with earthy tones followed by tarry spice and campfire smoke. The meaty intensity normally associated with the Syrah grape is replaced here by plump and rich dark fruit. Give the wine a little extra time in your cellar to evolve and unwind." Robert Parker
"The 2016 Syrah is a dense, potent wine. Wild cherry, game, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and coffee are front and center. This is an especially rich style. Then, again we are in Maremma. The 2016 is a bit wild, but in the best sense of the term. It will offer its finest drinking alongside similarly hearty cuisine. It was fermented in a mix of terracotta and cocciopesto, then moved into oak for 2-3 months before going into bottle, where it spent more than two years before being released." Vinous
"Fabulous complexity on the nose with crushed blackberries, chocolate, walnuts and tar. Lots of dried flowers. Full body. Layered and creamy with superb tannin texture and length. Hints of stone. Half made in amphora and half in casks. Aged one year in old casks." James Suckling

“Poggio Valente” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC
The juicy conciseness with the deep spiciness is style-defining here, as are the apart-balsamic notes with the dark nougat chocolate and the tobacco in the final." Weinwisser

"From the hot and dry year. Amazingly cool woven bouquet with dense aromas of black fruits, blackberry, chocolate and roasted mocha. The typical spicy and ethereal scent of Mediterranean maquis is also present. Intense and creamy dense palate shows the face of the vintage, which thanks to earlier harvest has enough freshness and drive to keep the enormous fullness and inner strength elegantly and skilfully in check. Great performance in such a hot year. Bravo! Can be drunk soon." Weinwisser
"Just bottled, the 2017 Saffredi is a huge, unctuous wine that captures all the natural richness of the year in spades. Rich and super-concentrated, with huge fruit, the 2017 is going to need a number of years to shed some of its baby fat, but it is a superb wine in the making. Coffee, licorice and spice all develop, and yet it is the wine's sheer depth that leaves the lasting impression." Vinous
"A dry, warm year produced an early harvest of high-quality, concentrated, thick-skinned grapes. The blend remains 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It has intense, bright aromas of black cherries and berries. The palate is tight, with concentrated fruit, dark chocolate and coffee, alongside firm, fine-textured, sustained tannins. Tightly packed, focused and elegantly balanced. Very promising." Decanter
"Gorgeous blackberries, dark chocolate, spice and lightly roasted coffee. Full body. Layered and creamy. Lovely, silky tannins that melt into the wine. A beautiful red from the vintage with class and finesse to the depth of fruit." James Suckling
"Wow, there is a very impressive freshness here that defies the heat of this vintage. The 2017 Saffredi does not seem like a 2017 at all. Now celebrating its 30th birthday, Saffredi is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Thanks to the vineyard's proximity to the sea, leaving leaves on the vines and the sharp diurnal shifts of the area, the fruit was able to ripen in a balanced manner despite the hot and dry summer. The team at Fattoria le Pupille knew they would have to be ready to harvest early and lose some their yields, and they did. In the end, production was down 25%, but the result is a fresh, thick and beautiful red made with ripe fruit and dark concentration. This is a great effort from Fattoria le Pupille." Robert Parker

Syrah Toscana IGT 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC
A long-cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its completion in this crescent. This 100% Syrah builds on all that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained world renown. The best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, clever and innovative vinification combined with a clearly recognisable signature and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.
The grapes come from the two estate-owned vineyards Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler site with just 5 ha, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500l clay amphorae. The grapes from the east-facing vineyard La Vigna del Palo are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then blended and matured in 300l barriques for a further 10 months before facing a further 22 months of bottle ageing.
Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. On the nose, fresh notes of red berry fruits and spices, hints of black pepper. The palate is complex, with gripping tannins, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has great ageing potential and is for us the classic meditation wine in impression and expression.

"From the dream year. Cool, very precisely woven bouquet with dense aromas of red and black fruits, wonderfully floral with violets and lavender, along with spicy and ethereal notes of Mediterranean kitchen herbs, leather, chocolate and liquorice. On the palate, it is equally powerful and loaded with dense, blackberry fruit, but with linear discipline, as it remains powerful and gripping until the long final, which again offers the full range of aromas". Weinwisser
"Deep ruby with a fine violet hue. Intense and dense nose, shows notes of pickled blackberries, plums and cassis, lots of cardamom. On the palate it shows a lot of ripe berry fruit, round and smooth, lots of blackberry and blackcurrant, present, well integrated tannin, very long and persistent. Falstaff
"A generally uneventful growing season led to good ripening at a measured pace. It's a radiant, deep colour with an elegant, fresh nose of floral and patisserie aromas leading to a palate which has the same elegant cast and freshness, but it’s also concentrated and sweet-fruited, with lively, intense black fruit and notes of forest-floor, fresh bay leaf and spicy sandalwood. It has a very good future, underpinned by fine, persistent tannins." Decanter
"One of the highlights in this range, the 2016 Saffredi is a hugely promising wine marked by a beguiling combination of vertical structure, energy and concentration. Black cherry, lavender, spice, plum, sage and lavender all pulse with remarkable energy. Massive and yet remarkably vivid for such an intense wine, the 2016 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine." Vinous
"This vintage is compact, firm and precise, with lovely floral aromas on the bouquet in front of blackberry and plum. Long oak toasting gives the wine tasty notes of spice and cinnamon and rounds the bouquet off nicely. The mouthfeel is soft and velvety. This is a complex, integrated and absolutely beautiful wine." Robert Parker
"Incredible aromas of dark berries, lavender, rosemary, licorice and dried flowers. Spice. Full body and fantastic tannin texture with great length. Goes on for minutes. Muscular yet wonderfully formed and refined. A glorious Saffredi." James Suckling (Platz 12 - TOP-Weine Italien 2018)

The name of the winery has nothing to do with the eyes of the owner, because "pupil" means in Tuscan parlance as much as "hill". On one of the numerous elevations of the Maremma near Istia d'In the early 1980s, Elisabetta Geppetti, mother of five children, took over an abandoned farmhouse with a manor house east of Grosseto and restored it in the typical Tuscan style. The winemaker and art historian is full of energy and joie de vivre. With her wines produced at Fattoria Le Pupille, she has not only created a masterpiece that combines tradition with modernity, but has also made a declaration of love for the region that came to be honoured late. Elisabethta's noble drops reflect the terroir of the Maremma precisely, but also impress with elegance and finesse.
The agile winemaker, supported by her eldest daughter Clara, is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Morellino di Scansano, for which she was president until recently. Together with her partner, the company, which is known as the "La Signora del Morellino" the landowner also described two restaurants. Elisabetta Geppetti was already active in this area when the Denomination Morellino di Scansano was founded at the end of the seventies. But although it was to fill its first vintage a little later, it did not gain complete control of the winery until 1985, when it was re-founded. Since the quality of the wine increased steadily from then on, the fame also increased. Today the 420-hectare estate cultivates 75 hectares of vineyards spread over different parts of the Maremma.
With the market launch of Saffredi, the showpiece of the house, from a single vineyard near Magliano, Fattoria Le Pupille hurried from success to success from 1987 onwards. None other than the old master Giacomo Tachis had the first vintage of the "Tachis", built according to all the rules of the art. "supertuscan" was launched. No less excellent is the Morellino di Scansano from the top location Poggio Valente. Since the turn of the millennium, the Bordeaux star oenologist Christian Le Sommer has been responsible for winemaking as Riccardo Cottarella's successor. The exquisite wines of the estate have not only found their way into luxury restaurants and exquisite vinotheques in their own country, but also around the globe. Numerous awards, such as the 2006 award from the magazine "The gourmet" award given "Winemaker of the year"The high status of the wine house is documented by the SUPERIORE.DE
"There is always a single face that stands for a region: a producer with the charisma and communicative skills to act as an ambassador to bring wines produced in a relatively obscure region to the world stage. In the Maremma, this person is Elisabetta Geppetti."Robert Parker
