• "Pelofino" Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

      “Pelofino” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Elisabetta Geppetti has created with the Pelofino a fruity and spicy cuvée of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Elegant aromas of dark fruit on the nose, wide and powerful on the palate, yet well balanced. A wine with an excellent value. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, bright ruby red. Fresh and compact nose, fine cherry and ripe raspberry, forest fruits. Crisp and juicy on the palate, flows nicely, uncomplicated and drinkable, light tannin in the finish. Falstaff

    • "Poggio Argentato" Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

“Poggio Argentato” Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

Poggio Argentato is a beautifully balanced white with a French touch. In the nose a multi-layered bouquet with fine herbal notes. On the palate strong, fresh, elegant and carried by a mineral acidity, citrus tones in the aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Poggio Argentato is a fresh white that benefitted from a cool May and June and plenty of rain in August. The blend is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Petit Manseng, 10% Traminer and 5% Semillon. Fermented in tonneaux, the wine has a very precise bouquet, although the mouthfeel still needs to take on more volume and weight. There are nice little aromas of white flowers and honeysuckle. Give this one a few more months in the bottle to take on more weight before serving it along side a plate of spaghetti with vongole and chopped parsley." Robert Parker

"This is precise and pretty with sliced apples and limes, as well as mineral undertones. Full body. Dry and flavorful. Bright finish." James Suckling

“Poggio Valente” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Ripe and intense the bouquet of Poggio Valente from the single vineyard of the same name, with its very full-bodied, sweet tannins. Combines freshness and depth in a successful way and ends in a very elegant final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Extremely floral and perfumed with blueberry, chocolate and violet aromas. Full body. Very silky and refined texture with a gorgeous berry and cherry aftertaste. Finely textured." James Suckling

"The 2016 Poggio Valente is a total knockout. Ample and resonant, with tremendous richness, the 2016 is fabulous from the very first taste. A whole rush of Sangiovese aromas and flavors build as this potent, full-bodied, pure Sangiovese shows off its considerable power. Hints of tobacco, cedar and mint add the closing shades of dimension. The 2016 was aged in 500-600L. French and Slovakian oak, with a touch of Hungarian and Austrian wood for greater complexity." Vinous

"The 2016 Poggio Valente is precise and direct, the result of a lot of enological brain power and Coastal Tuscany's answer to Brunello Montalcino. It's an excellent expression of Sangiovese, with pretty floral and fruity notes, earthy tones and an unforgettable cameo appearance of blossoming rose. Give the wine ample time to open in the glass." • "Saffredi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

      “Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

Deep dark ruby red. Floral nose with a lot of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. On the palate smooth and elegant with a wonderful depth and structure. Then again herbs, in addition violets, some plums and a touch of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you, until it merges with an impressive presence and elegance into a very long and harmonious finish. One of the great wines of Italy full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE

"From the hot and dry year. Amazingly cool woven bouquet with dense aromas of black fruits, blackberry, chocolate and roasted mocha. The typical spicy and ethereal scent of Mediterranean maquis is also present. Intense and creamy dense palate shows the face of the vintage, which thanks to earlier harvest has enough freshness and drive to keep the enormous fullness and inner strength elegantly and skilfully in check. Great performance in such a hot year. Bravo! Can be drunk soon." Weinwisser

"Just bottled, the 2017 Saffredi is a huge, unctuous wine that captures all the natural richness of the year in spades. Rich and super-concentrated, with huge fruit, the 2017 is going to need a number of years to shed some of its baby fat, but it is a superb wine in the making. Coffee, licorice and spice all develop, and yet it is the wine's sheer depth that leaves the lasting impression." Vinous

"A dry, warm year produced an early harvest of high-quality, concentrated, thick-skinned grapes. The blend remains 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It has intense, bright aromas of black cherries and berries. The palate is tight, with concentrated fruit, dark chocolate and coffee, alongside firm, fine-textured, sustained tannins. Tightly packed, focused and elegantly balanced. Very promising." Decanter

"Gorgeous blackberries, dark chocolate, spice and lightly roasted coffee. Full body. Layered and creamy. Lovely, silky tannins that melt into the wine. A beautiful red from the vintage with class and finesse to the depth of fruit." James Suckling

"Wow, there is a very impressive freshness here that defies the heat of this vintage. The 2017 Saffredi does not seem like a 2017 at all. Now celebrating its 30th birthday, Saffredi is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Thanks to the vineyard's proximity to the sea, leaving leaves on the vines and the sharp diurnal shifts of the area, the fruit was able to ripen in a balanced manner despite the hot and dry summer. The team at Fattoria le Pupille knew they would have to be ready to harvest early and lose some their yields, and they did. In the end, production was down 25%, but the result is a fresh, thick and beautiful red made with ripe fruit and dark concentration. This is a great effort from Fattoria le Pupille." Robert Parker

    • Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

      Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

Le Pupille has a new wine. A long cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its completion in this crescence. This 100% Syrah builds on everything that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained world renown. The best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, clever and innovative winemaking combined with a clearly recognizable signature and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.

The grapes for the first vintage (2015) of this exceptional wine come from the two estate vineyards Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler site, with just 5 hectares, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500l clay amphoras. The grapes of the east-facing vineyard La Vigna del Palo are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then married and matured in 300l barriques for another 10 months before the wines are then bottle aged for another 22 months.

Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. In the nose fresh notes of red berry fruits and spices, hints of black pepper. On the palate it is complex, with gripping tannin, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has a great storage potential and is for us the classic meditation wine in appearance and expression. SUPERIORE.DE

"Densely woven, with super-fine tannin, dark berry fruit, hints of brown bread, dried goya berries, brine syrup and a slightly iodine note: an elegant, special wine that has absolutely nothing in common with the Syrah plants of the Northern Rhône, even if this is repeatedly claimed. I drank the 2015 at Milan's Restaurant Vun, where two-star chef Andrea Aprea served it with a shoulder of lamb and malted barley. Phenomenal." Dr. Jens Priewe (weinkenner.de)

"Mineral and spicy bouquet, very elegant and calming, yet very broad with earthy and tobacco notes with iron notes reminiscent of blood. Surprisingly fruity on the palate, but clear as a bell, almost pure and crisp, completely different style, very exciting and with a lot of finesse. A top Maremma Syrah." Weinwisser

"After a little aeration delicate aromas of dark forest fruits, flowers, spicy and smoky notes; polished in the mouth, the fine-grained tannins and the airy acidity in balance, shows race and cut to the final. Elegant, full of esprit and a delightful proof that a Syrah from Tuscany cannot be compared to any other Syrah (or Shiraz) in the world". Vinum

"This debut vintage is a classic expression of Syrah. With fruit drawn from 34-year-old vines, fermented both in terracotta amphorae (acquired from the Manetti family of Fontodi fame) and open-top tonneaux, then aged ten months in French barrique, the 2015 Le Pupille shows all the typical notes of Syrah and a nice roundness of tannin. It is a very tight wine that is layered and beautiful, carefully crafted to avoid reduction. This new line should be a winner for years to come. Congratulations." Robert Parker

"This is a new wine from Le Pupille and made in amphorae and large barrels. The aromas are a dead ringer for Côte-Rôtie! So much smoked meat, spice and dark fruit. Full-bodied, juicy and succulent with plenty of dark fruit and then a long and flavorful finish that shows gamey and earthy undertones. Clean and vivid. 3,000 bottles produced." James Suckling

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2014 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Saffredi was born in 1987 and is named after its location in the municipality of Magliano. This is where the grapes from which this monumental masterpiece is made originate. Only the colour deep dark ruby red, with interesting violet reflections shows a pompous wine of great terroir. In the very expressive bouquet there is a wonderful abundance of floral and earthy aromas, which harmonize beautifully with the scent of red berries. On the palate a concentrated fruit, very soft and deep, structured and endlessly long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, deep dark ruby with a slight violet hue. Opened with spicy notes of sandalwood and tobacco, followed by rich notes of ripe forest blueberries, fleshy. On the palate dense and compact in approach and course, shows much dark berry fruit, clear and full, fine-meshed tannin, floats long there, long reverberation." Falstaff

"Dense purple. Intense, radiant, clear bouquet with dark and blueberry fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry), earthy-smoky aromas with a touch of graphite, tobacco and sweet (liquorice) spices and precious woods. There is a lot of Cabernet spice resonating. On the palate it is intense, rich and with a densely interwoven structure, linear and clear, showing great freshness, finesse and presence, with a finely polished tannin structure, persistent intensity and a long aftertaste." Weinwisser

"Sexy blueberry, spice and black pepper. Mushroom. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. Extremely long and just starting to come around now. Needs a little more time in bottle. Splendid finish. Try in 2019 but already amazing." James Suckling

"This perfumed red offers aromas of cedar, sage, black currant and oak spice. Vivid acidity drives the complex flavors, with substantial grip on the finish." Wine Spectator

"Offers good depth and translucence in the mid-weight style of the year. Grilled herb, lavender, plum, menthol and sage are some of the many nuances that are woven together in this distinctly mid-weight Saffredi. Although a touch slender, as so many wines are in this vintage, the 2014 Saffredi has quite a bit of staying power and overall persistence. As is so often the case with wines from cooler years, time in the glass does wonders here." Antonio Galloni

“Saffredi” Maremma Toscana IGT 2010 · BALTHAZAR 12 Liters in OWC

Perfect Supertuscan, warmth and freshness, elegance and harmony in harmony! Sweet scent of highly ripe cherries and berries with beautiful floral notes. Also in the mouth mature and with lots of fruit charm, spicy and pleasant acidity. The Saffredi has bite and a nice length with ripe tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark purple red with violet hue and black center. Intense nose with sweet fruit, blackberries, stewed plums and figs, hints of leather in the background. On the palate well balanced tannins, well structured with good lengh." Markus del Monego

"From the Textbook Vintage, where for the first time in the blend of Alicante was replaced by Syrah. Shining ruby grenade. Grandiose bouquet with floral aspects and red fruits, currants, cassis, orange peel and with sweet spices, simply intoxicating. On the palate silky elegant texture, yet rich and deep, but without reaching the lavish fullness of the 2011, for me it is cooler and more elegant, with fantastic length, so I rate it much higher than previous WW ratings from before my time. This is a great Maremma cinema for me." Weinwisser

"Concentrated lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Amazing concentration and precision, with very fine oak. Concentrated palate, which is more savoury than sweet. Great crunchy red and ripe fruit with amazing balance. Lovely and hedonistic, long and layered." Jancis Robinson

"The aromas of blueberries and lavender come out nicely in the glass. Full body, with fine tannins and a bright acidity. The texture is wonderful here. Needs two or three years to come together. Saffredi is a benchmark in Tuscany's Maremmaregion." James Suckling

"The 2010 Saffredi (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) delivers gorgeous intensity and broad aromas of black berry, leather, crushed granite and lingering smoke. It’s a masterpiece on all happy fronts. The texturalelegance is superb." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Le Pupille
    Tuscany | Maremma
    Le Pupille

The name of the winery has nothing to do with the eyes of the owner, because "pupil" means in Tuscan parlance as much as "hill". On one of the numerous elevations of the Maremma near Istia d'In the early 1980s, Elisabetta Geppetti, mother of five children, took over an abandoned farmhouse with a manor house east of Grosseto and restored it in the typical Tuscan style. The winemaker and art historian is full of energy and joie de vivre. With her wines produced at Fattoria Le Pupille, she has not only created a masterpiece that combines tradition with modernity, but has also made a declaration of love for the region that came to be honoured late. Elisabethta's noble drops reflect the terroir of the Maremma precisely, but also impress with elegance and finesse.

The agile winemaker, supported by her eldest daughter Clara, is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Morellino di Scansano, for which she was president until recently. Together with her partner, the company, which is known as the "La Signora del Morellino" the landowner also described two restaurants. Elisabetta Geppetti was already active in this area when the Denomination Morellino di Scansano was founded at the end of the seventies. But although it was to fill its first vintage a little later, it did not gain complete control of the winery until 1985, when it was re-founded. Since the quality of the wine increased steadily from then on, the fame also increased. Today the 420-hectare estate cultivates 75 hectares of vineyards spread over different parts of the Maremma.

With the market launch of Saffredi, the showpiece of the house, from a single vineyard near Magliano, Fattoria Le Pupille hurried from success to success from 1987 onwards. None other than the old master Giacomo Tachis had the first vintage of the "Tachis", built according to all the rules of the art. "supertuscan" was launched. No less excellent is the Morellino di Scansano from the top location Poggio Valente. Since the turn of the millennium, the Bordeaux star oenologist Christian Le Sommer has been responsible for winemaking as Riccardo Cottarella's successor. The exquisite wines of the estate have not only found their way into luxury restaurants and exquisite vinotheques in their own country, but also around the globe. Numerous awards, such as the 2006 award from the magazine "The gourmet" award given "Winemaker of the year"The high status of the wine house is documented by the SUPERIORE.DE

"There is always a single face that stands for a region: a producer with the charisma and communicative skills to act as an ambassador to bring wines produced in a relatively obscure region to the world stage. In the Maremma, this person is Elisabetta Geppetti."Robert Parker
