• Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2018

      Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2018

Deep dark red colour, beautiful fruit aromas of cherries and ripe, dark berries. The taste is balanced, complex, dense, full of finesse and with silky tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"A reliable everyday wine with the scent of raspberries and violets, accompanied by notes of Mediterranean macchia; the approach is robust yet balanced, combining juice and sweetness. Vinum

"Brilliant ruby red with brightening rim. In the nose after plums and rose hips, spans a beautiful Bouquet on, fine spice. On the palate with tightly woven tannins, fresh fruit, slightly salty with a juicy final." Falstaff

"The 2018 Morellino di Scansano shows nice freshness and very decisive primary fruit. It is a sharp and zippy Morellino, carrying some tones of bitter almond and candied orange peel at the back of forest berry and wild cherry. This is an easy-drinking red that would feel right at home next to a cheesy baked eggplant dish." Robert Parker

"Plums and spices with hints of chocolate and hazelnuts. Perfumed. Medium body, soft tannins and a savory finish. It’s complex with a cherry, light chocolate and walnut aftertaste. Blend of mostly sangiovese with ciliegiolo and alicante." James Suckling

      “Rosamati” Rosato Toscana IGT 2018

Fruity, floral and delicately spicy nuances in the bouquet. On the palate medium texture, pleasant red berry taste. An uncomplicated drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright pinkish red with a sparkling core. Very appealing nose of dried tomatoes and a pinch of oregano, red berries and some orange. Fine and balanced mouth, spans an elegant arch, with a slight melting, floral bouquet, great length, drinks very well". Falstaff

"Freshened up with a tiny percent of Vermentino, this Syrah-based Rosato offers pretty aromas of rose petals within its beautifully floral and intense bouquet. There are some toasted almond notes in there too. You'll notice a pretty vibrancy and good freshness to the 2018 RosaMati, making it a qualified candidate for a buttery scampi dish." Robert Parker

“Poggio Argentato” Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

Poggio Argentato is a beautifully balanced white with a French touch. In the nose a multi-layered bouquet with fine herbal notes. On the palate strong, fresh, elegant and carried by a mineral acidity, citrus tones in the aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Poggio Argentato is a fresh white that benefitted from a cool May and June and plenty of rain in August. The blend is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Petit Manseng, 10% Traminer and 5% Semillon. Fermented in tonneaux, the wine has a very precise bouquet, although the mouthfeel still needs to take on more volume and weight. There are nice little aromas of white flowers and honeysuckle. Give this one a few more months in the bottle to take on more weight before serving it along side a plate of spaghetti with vongole and chopped parsley." Robert Parker

    • Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG 2016

Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG 2016

Ripe and intense the nose of Morellino Riserva for black fruits, raspberries and notes of violets. Wonderful texture on the palate, beautiful fruit, very harmonious in taste. An extremely elegant wine, with lovely tannins, in the final freshness and depth combine. Very well done! SUPERIORE.DE

"Spicy cherry aromas, also filigree raspberry and violet notes; compact on the palate, much melt, but also strong tannins, the final to notes of ripe berries, leather and tobacco. "Pleases with its spiciness. Vinum

"Offers hints of earth and game, with ripe plum cherry, licorice and leather flavors. Firm and long, if a tad dry on the finish, but food should help." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Morellino di Scansano Riserva has made a great leap forward in recent vintages. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine is aged in old Saffredi barrique along with larger botte. The wine shows a stunning crispness and a sharp focus in this vintage. It opens to black cherry notes and generous red fruit, with very lightly toasted almond and spice at the back. The mouthfeel is full, and while the bouquet starts off a bit closed, the finish grows steadily in volume and girth. It would be a nice accompaniment to grilled portobello mushrooms. This wine offers excellent value from coastal Tuscany." Robert Parker

"This is very dense and polished with a beautiful texture of fruit and polished tannins. Creamy and caressing. Full body. Tight and intense. Complex flavors of berries, spices, cedar and chocolate, as well as light meat. Equal to the excellent 2015." James Suckling

    • "Saffredi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2014

      “Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2014

Saffredi was born in 1987 and is named after its location in the municipality of Magliano. This is where the grapes from which this monumental masterpiece is made originate. Only the colour deep dark ruby red, with interesting violet reflections shows a pompous wine of great terroir. In the very expressive bouquet there is a wonderful abundance of floral and earthy aromas, which harmonize beautifully with the scent of red berries. On the palate a concentrated fruit, very soft and deep, structured and endlessly long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, deep dark ruby with a slight violet hue. Opened with spicy notes of sandalwood and tobacco, followed by rich notes of ripe forest blueberries, fleshy. On the palate dense and compact in approach and course, shows much dark berry fruit, clear and full, fine-meshed tannin, floats long there, long reverberation." Falstaff

"Dense purple. Intense, radiant, clear bouquet with dark and blueberry fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry), earthy-smoky aromas with a touch of graphite, tobacco and sweet (liquorice) spices and precious woods. There is a lot of Cabernet spice resonating. On the palate it is intense, rich and with a densely interwoven structure, linear and clear, showing great freshness, finesse and presence, with a finely polished tannin structure, persistent intensity and a long aftertaste." Weinwisser

"Sexy blueberry, spice and black pepper. Mushroom. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. Extremely long and just starting to come around now. Needs a little more time in bottle. Splendid finish. Try in 2019 but already amazing." James Suckling

"This perfumed red offers aromas of cedar, sage, black currant and oak spice. Vivid acidity drives the complex flavors, with substantial grip on the finish." Wine Spectator

"Offers good depth and translucence in the mid-weight style of the year. Grilled herb, lavender, plum, menthol and sage are some of the many nuances that are woven together in this distinctly mid-weight Saffredi. Although a touch slender, as so many wines are in this vintage, the 2014 Saffredi has quite a bit of staying power and overall persistence. As is so often the case with wines from cooler years, time in the glass does wonders here." Antonio Galloni

    • "Saffredi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

      “Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Floral nose with very much red, warm fruit and tender herb note. On the palate it is smooth and elegant with a wonderful depth and structure. Then again herbs, in addition violets, some plum and a breath of tar and leather. Saffredi sneaks up on the palate and then, with an impressive presence and elegance, it turns into a very long and harmonious finish. One of the great Italian wines from an equally great Tuscany vintage! SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich ruby with a fine violet shimmer. Intense and dense nose, with notes of pickled blackberries, plums and cassis, plenty of cardamom. On the palate it shows a lot of ripe berry fruit, round and supple, lots of blackberry and cassis, present, well integrated tannin, very long and persistent." Falstaff

"One of the highlights in this range, the 2016 Saffredi is a hugely promising wine marked by a beguiling combination of vertical structure, energy and concentration. Black cherry, lavender, spice, plum, sage and lavender all pulse with remarkable energy. Massive and yet remarkably vivid for such an intense wine, the 2016 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine." Vinous

"This vintage is compact, firm and precise, with lovely floral aromas on the bouquet in front of blackberry and plum. Long oak toasting gives the wine tasty notes of spice and cinnamon and rounds the bouquet off nicely. The mouthfeel is soft and velvety. This is a complex, integrated and absolutely beautiful wine." Robert Parker

"Incredible aromas of dark berries, lavender, rosemary, licorice and dried flowers. Spice. Full body and fantastic tannin texture with great length. Goes on for minutes. Muscular yet wonderfully formed and refined. A glorious Saffredi."  James Suckling (Platz 12 - TOP-Weine Italien 2018)

    • Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

      Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

Le Pupille has a new wine. A long cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its perfection in this crescendo. This 100% Syrah is based on everything that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained a worldwide reputation. Best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, intelligent and innovative vinification combined with a clearly recognizable handwriting and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.

The grapes for the first vintage (2015) of this exceptional wine come from the estate's two vineyards, Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler vineyard with just 5 ha, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500 l clay amphorae. The grapes of the east facing La Vigna del Palo vineyard are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then married and matured in 300l barriques for a further 10 months, before the next 22 months of bottle maturation.

Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. In the nose fresh notes of red berries and spices, hints of black pepper. On the palate it is complex, with a gripping tannin, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has a large storage potential and is the classic meditation wine for us in appearance and expression. SUPERIORE.DE

"Densely woven, with super-fine tannin, dark berry fruit, hints of black bread, dried goya berries, brine liquorice and a slightly iodine note: an elegant, special wine that has nothing at all in common with the Syrah plants of the Northern Rhône, even if this is repeatedly claimed. I drank the 2015 in Milan's Restaurant Vun, where two-star chef Andrea Aprea served it with a shoulder of lamb and malted barley. Phenomenal." Dr. Jens Priewe (weinkenner.de)

"After some aeration, delicate aromas of dark forest fruits, flowers, spices and smoky notes; polished in the mouth, the fine-grained tannins and the airy acidity in balance, shows race and polish until the final. Elegant, full of esprit and a delightful proof that a Syrah from Tuscany is not comparable to any other Syrah (or Shiraz) in the world." Vinum

"This debut vintage is a classic expression of Syrah. With fruit drawn from 34-year-old vines, fermented both in terracotta amphorae (acquired from the Manetti family of Fontodi fame) and open-top tonneaux, then aged ten months in French barrique, the 2015 Le Pupille shows all the typical notes of Syrah and a nice roundness of tannin. It is a very tight wine that is layered and beautiful, carefully crafted to avoid reduction. This new line should be a winner for years to come. Congratulations." Robert Parker

"This is a new wine from Le Pupille and made in amphorae and large barrels. The aromas are a dead ringer for Côte-Rôtie! So much smoked meat, spice and dark fruit. Full-bodied, juicy and succulent with plenty of dark fruit and then a long and flavorful finish that shows gamey and earthy undertones. Clean and vivid. 3,000 bottles produced." James Suckling

    • "Saffredi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016 <br>6 Bottles in OWC

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

    About the winemakers
    Le Pupille
    Tuscany | Maremma
    Le Pupille

The name of the winery has nothing to do with the eyes of the owner, because "pupil" means in Tuscan parlance as much as "hill". On one of the numerous elevations of the Maremma near Istia d'In the early 1980s, Elisabetta Geppetti, mother of five children, took over an abandoned farmhouse with a manor house east of Grosseto and restored it in the typical Tuscan style. The winemaker and art historian is full of energy and joie de vivre. With her wines produced at Fattoria Le Pupille, she has not only created a masterpiece that combines tradition with modernity, but has also made a declaration of love for the region that came to be honoured late. Elisabethta's noble drops reflect the terroir of the Maremma precisely, but also impress with elegance and finesse.

The agile winemaker, supported by her eldest daughter Clara, is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Morellino di Scansano, for which she was president until recently. Together with her partner, the company, which is known as the "La Signora del Morellino" the landowner also described two restaurants. Elisabetta Geppetti was already active in this area when the Denomination Morellino di Scansano was founded at the end of the seventies. But although it was to fill its first vintage a little later, it did not gain complete control of the winery until 1985, when it was re-founded. Since the quality of the wine increased steadily from then on, the fame also increased. Today the 420-hectare estate cultivates 75 hectares of vineyards spread over different parts of the Maremma.

With the market launch of Saffredi, the showpiece of the house, from a single vineyard near Magliano, Fattoria Le Pupille hurried from success to success from 1987 onwards. None other than the old master Giacomo Tachis had the first vintage of the "Tachis", built according to all the rules of the art. "supertuscan" was launched. No less excellent is the Morellino di Scansano from the top location Poggio Valente. Since the turn of the millennium, the Bordeaux star oenologist Christian Le Sommer has been responsible for winemaking as Riccardo Cottarella's successor. The exquisite wines of the estate have not only found their way into luxury restaurants and exquisite vinotheques in their own country, but also around the globe. Numerous awards, such as the 2006 award from the magazine "The gourmet" award given "Winemaker of the year"The high status of the wine house is documented by the SUPERIORE.DE

"There is always a single face that stands for a region: a producer with the charisma and communicative skills to act as an ambassador to bring wines produced in a relatively obscure region to the world stage. In the Maremma, this person is Elisabetta Geppetti."Robert Parker
