Mason di Mason is described by the winery as "a Grand Cru within a Grand Cru". It comes from the highest and oldest parcels of the Mazzon vineyard with thinner moraine soils over hard limestone, resulting in smaller berries. The aromas of red and black cherries are joined by bitter herbs, cocoa and earth, which are reflected in the mouth, where the flavour is intense, structured and woody. Sgarzon is a single vineyard, hardly more than a kilometre from Morei as the crow flies, but here the Noce has deposited more sand in the upper soil layers, the plot is more open and thus less protected from cold winds. The grapes ripen about a week later. Teroldego Sgarzon is fabulous, filigree and yet full of richness and energy from the attack to the final. Morei is protected from the cold north winds by the nearby steep rock faces. The rock stores heat during the day, which radiates to the vineyard at night. The soil here is very stony, therefore relatively warm, dense, dark, mineral, like the eponymous wine Morei Teroldego. Slightly darker fruited and with less of the floral note of the Sgarzon 2020, just a touch of peony, more mineral (an impression of rock dust), sober, perhaps a little bigger in the mouth than the Sgarzon – the alcohol is a tiny bit higher but still pretty modest. Firmer, more rounded tannins but still extremely fine, and they are deeper and denser. Like the Sgarzon, there is outstanding purity and refinement. Beautifully fresh even if the freshness is less immediate than in the Sgarzon, it carries through on the long, long finish. Emilio and Elisabetta Foradori only press 8,000 bottles of Fuoripista Pinot Grigio from the biodynamic vineyards of the Campo Rotaliano site every year. The delicate pink-coloured wine is fermented for eight months on the skins in tinajas (Spanish amphorae), where it matures slowly to reveal the delicate character of Pinot Grigio and the forgotten diversity of Trentino. The Carménère grape, which is hardly ever found in Italy and is normally found in the Médoc, is reinterpreted in a masterly way at Tenuta San Leonardo. Deep, dark ruby red, with a broad-shouldered bouquet of dark fruit and very harmonious spice. The barely noticeable acidity makes it round on the palate, silky smooth and extremely long and elegant. Nosiola - an ancient grape variety of Trentino - was once cultivated throughout the country. Today, its cultivation is limited to the mountains and valleys of Trento. The Nosiola grape produces wines of great finesse and longevity. Elisabetta's Nosiola also gains exceptional vigour and energy through biodynamics and ageing in amphora. The vineyards of the Löwengang estate in Margreid have been owned by the Lageder family since 1934. Here, on the rubble cone of ancient dolomite rock below steep cliffs, grape varieties such as Carménère and Cabernet find ideal conditions in the mild climate of the valley.

Löwengang emphasises the unique DNA of the grapes from which this wine is made. Parts of the vineyard are around 145 years old and the vines are among the oldest vineyards in South Tyrol. Count Melchiori, the former owner, planted the plots in Margreid with Cabernet around 1875. At least that's what he thought - because a large proportion of the vines planted at that time were actually Carménère vines. Through intensive study of the vineyard and extensive genetic analyses, the Alois Lageder winery discovered that the vineyard was in fact a mixed set of Carménère, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In order to emphasise the special origin of the grapes, the wine will be offered as the "Löwengang Historischer gemischter Satz" from the 2018 vintage onwards.

Complex, concentrated bouquet with fruity hints of cherries and blackcurrants, spicy aromas of tobacco, floral notes of violets and mint and a very elegant woody note. Powerful, straightforward attack, concentrated and dense on the palate. Long-lasting, fresh and fruity final with powerful but by no means aggressive tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

Troy is not a normal Chardonnay. Rather, it is the archetype of a Chardonnay, as Wolfgang Klotz, managing director of probably the most successful winegrowers' cooperative in South Tyrol, sees it. The grapes come from two selected vineyards in Söll, near Tramin. Not only does a Mediterranean climate prevail there, but also quite cold fall winds at night determine the vegetation. Both factors ensure optimal development of the plants and fruits. The berries are handpicked piece by piece and it is therefore clear to every wine connoisseur that this is an absolutely prestigious project of the cooperative. It is therefore not surprising that only 3,000 bottles of this vintage are sold in selected specialist shops and top restaurants.

Intense straw to golden yellow. Tropical fruit on the nose, a hint of camomile and mint, then fine toasted notes and a subtle nutty touch. On the palate, you can almost taste the proximity of the mountains, its clarity, freshness and intensity: exotic notes of yellow ripe fruit, then again some nuttiness and in addition again a beguiling liveliness and minerality, which ends in an equally long final.
