The Krafuss Farm dates back to the Renaissance and has remained unchanged to this day. It belongs to Roland Riz, Alois Lageder's father-in-law, and is nestled amongst vineyards and orchards above St. Michael-Eppan – a historic building that bears witness to the economic importance of viticulture in this area as far back as the Middle Ages. The Lageder family has been making wine here for six generations. In 1991, the vineyard was completely recultivated and replanted exclusively with Pinot Nero, using a close-spaced spalliera training system. A decision made without compromise: no other grape varieties, no mixed cultivation, just this one variety on this one hill. In 2013, the vineyard switched to biodynamic cultivation – and since then, sheep have once again been grazing on the outskirts of Eppan, as was customary centuries ago.

The vineyards stretch across the entire ridge, at an altitude of 430 to 450 metres, and completely surround the historic estate. The altitude, aspect, soil composition, microclimate and good air circulation create a terroir that could scarcely be more ideal for Pinot Nero. Spontaneous fermentation of the must in steel and wood, followed by ageing in small and large wooden barrels, and several months' bottle ageing before the wine leaves the estate.

A brilliant ruby red. A wine of great inner calm and precision, which relishes time in the glass just as much as in the cellar. Elegance, full-bodiedness and salty minerality characterise the style of this Krafuss – a wine that Lageder himself selected for his Rarum Library Edition, with vintages dating back to 2002.
