Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Piancornello's Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is initially elegantly restrained with rosy flowers, nuances of cherry and worn leather, contrasted by a hint of sour citrus fruit. It then impresses on the palate with a silky texture and cool radiance, while the lively acidity brings out ripe red berries and minerals. The finish is structured, very savoury with notes of plum and liquorice that linger incredibly long under a hint of violet-tinged flowers. A beautiful, taut and firm Brunello from an equally beautiful vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Youthfully intense, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino entices with a dusty blend of dried black cherries, incense, dark chocolate and spice. This floods the palate with soft, enveloping textures and ripe red and blue fruits as violet inner florals resonate and fine tannins slowly collect toward the close. It’s incredibly long and potent, with a staining of primary concentration that lingers on as cedar and a bitter twang of tart cranberry fade slowly. Piancornello is back to form in the 2019 vintage. Nicely done." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
With the exception of 2016 and 2019, the last eight years in the region around Montalcino have been characterised by warm and dry conditions. For this reason, Il Poggione has started to prioritise irrigation for emergencies (which is becoming more and more of a necessity in the south-west of Montalcino) and is looking for a better balance in the higher vineyards. This is not the only reason why Il Poggione is one of the top producers every year, with an extremely fair value.
Oenologist Alessandro Bindocci compares the 2019 and 2016 vintages as follows "Both Brunellos are quite classic, but the 2019 has more energy and fruit than the 2016 at the same stage."
Opens as a medium-dark appearance with a pretty Sangiovese lustre and ruby red shimmer. In the glass, the 2019 shows a wildly romantic side and a dense fruit profile. The aromatic focus is on blackberries, dried cherries, tobacco and a hint of smoked tobacco or horse saddle. On the palate, a contrasting spectacle of dark red fruits, sweet spices and salty mineral notes; all supported by a silky texture and lively acidity. As it progresses, it has a beautiful, firm grip and a stable backbone, with youthful tension and fine-grained tannins, which will give it great ageing potential. Il Poggione is a safe bet every year, and not just for us, and the 2019 edition is once again one of the best representatives of this noble appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense bouquet with ripe red and dark fruits, blueberries, wild strawberries, cassis and redcurrants. Behind this, the oak barrel ageing is also evident with a fine animal note, cedar, tobacco, chocolate, dark spices and herbs. Fleshy, dense palate with a coarse-meshed tannin network, but of the best quality. Very persistent and full-bodied on the final." Weinwisser
"Dark, youthful ruby red colour. Very closed and brooding with just a hint of fragrant raspberry, tea leaves and oak. Generous and compact on the palate. A layer of soft cherry and raspberry fruit, lined with quite powerful tannins that need more time. Carries its 15% with ease. Closes on the finish and needs more time." Jancis Robinson
"Lots of dried fruit, such as figs and dried cherries, followed by tree bark, rosemary and a hint of sandalwood. Full-bodied and creamy on the palate with a solid tannin structure. Wonderful length. Dense and opulent." James Suckling
"The Il Poggione 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows a developed bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flowers and autumnal foliage. A second nose reveals dark liquorice, wet slate, cola and grilled rosemary. The tannins are powdery and dry." Wine Advocate
"Features ample plum, cherry, iron, tobacco and underbrush flavors buoyed by a plump texture to match the dense structure, plus vibrant acidity to keep it all focused. Another year of aging should allow the finish to stretch out and this wine to reach its full potential." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 vintage is very balanced, somewhere between 2016, 2013 and 2010. Sant'Angelo in Colle, which suffers in warmer vintages, has done very well and Il Poggione is a great example of the harmony of the area's wines in this vintage. At first sniff it is fruity, later becoming more restrained, with black cherry, violets, leather, graphite and the typical nutty finish. The chalky tannins are extracted but velvety, emphasised by an almost piquant acidity." Decanter
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino draws the taster close to the glass with its dark and earthy blend of crushed ash stones giving way to rosemary, cedar, exotic spices and a core of raspberry jam. Enveloping and serene, it flows across the palate like pure silk, steadily building tension as tart wild berry and orange notes give way to a sweet herbal push. The 2019 finishes with tremendous length and is classically structured as crisp tannins linger and purple flowers slowly fade over a tactile layer of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the vibrancy of the vintage, yet it is still a baby today." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio al Granchio” DOCG 2019
The name Poggio al Granchio comes from the small pond in the centre of the vineyard, which is located under an imposing holm oak tree and is home to a number of freshwater crayfish that have landed with energy. It is the area with the highest vineyards on the hill of Montalcino. It is a vineyard that receives the morning sun and is exposed to the strong climatic influence of Monte Amiata (former volcano and sacred mountain of the Etruscans), which rises opposite. This area of Montalcino has rich Galestro soils, which are particularly good for Brunello. On Galestro, the Sangiovese becomes mineral and savoury, with silky tannins; on the nose, it has notes of ripe underbrush fruit combined with that unmistakable hint of flint that you can smell directly on the slate. On the palate, the wine has a subtle, elegant but assertive entry and proves to be flavoursome and mineral. The Brunello here is dark in colour and has great ageing potential.
Intense ruby red colour with violet hues. Powerful and spicy bouquet of fresh cherries, redcurrants, blackberries, aniseed and myrtle. On the palate, it has an unmistakably subtle Sangiovese typicity, the wonderfully varied primary flavours are flanked by long, silky tannins. It has a very flavoursome and mineral finish that only this region can give Sangiovese. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, shiny ruby red with a sparkling centre. Cool nose of citrus, elderberries, reminiscent of cold butter, herbs and graphite. On the palate with grippy, youthful tannins, red fruit and good freshness, medium weight, still a little rough at the back." Falstaff
"A shade deeper than the Vigna del Lago and with orange-coloured reflections. It is also a little richer and riper, with plenty of deep plum fruit and spicy notes of black pepper. The tangy cherry fruit is lined with sandy tannins. Great balance and length." Jancis Robinson
"Pretty cherries and chocolate with some violets, leading to a medium body with fine tannins and an orange peel finish. Refined and beautiful." James Suckling
"Poggio al Granchio, which stretches south-east towards Monte Amiata, lies at an altitude of 450 metres on slate-rich Galestro soil. The area is characterised by warm days and cool nights, resulting in firmly structured wines. The 2019 is a virile wine that opens with smoky ash, incense and iron. On the palate, it shows blackberry and blackcurrant flavours wrapped in dusty, dry, stony earth. Pungent, gravelly tannins sprinkle the mouth, while the acidity provides a tangy bite. It gradually finishes with a rust-like aura." Decanter
"The Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Granchio 2019 draws the taster close to the glass to take in its beguiling aromas. Aromas of roses and cloves give way to cinnamon-dusted redcurrants and a hint of camphor. An elegant style with a silky texture and ripe, rich wild berries balanced by lively acidity. Salty minerals colour the palate as the 2019 finishes long and structured. It holds its power in reserve, while a pleasantly bitter note mingles with fine-grained tannins to create a youthfully exciting sensation. This is a Poggio al Granchio for the ages. Bury your bottles deep." Vinous
"A deep well of blackberry, black currant and cherry fruit marks this succulent red, with accents of wild rosemary and mineral. Well-delineated and complex, echoing the fruit and savory notes on the long finish. Shows superb balance and harmony." Wine Spectator

“Cielo d’Ulisse” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
The vineyard on the western side of the Montalcino hills is so secluded that you can enjoy the starry sky to the full without being disturbed. It is therefore not surprising that this supple, very classic Brunello bears the name "Sky of Ulysses". As is well known, Odysseus had the ability to navigate the seas without a compass and by simply orientating himself by the stars.
Deep dark ruby with light-coloured inclusions. The bouquet is a potpourri of aromas that unfold almost endlessly, with floral notes of light roses and white flowers alongside black and red fruits. On the palate, power, flavour and a freshness that, together with the well-proportioned tannins, suggest a harmonious and exciting development! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a delicately brightening rim. On the nose, dried herbs, leather, ripe raspberries, cranberries and light spice. Compact on the palate, with a creamy texture and slightly grippy tannins, as well as beautiful juiciness and ripe fruit, with a fine swing." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Notes of oak and roasted coffee beans, including cool red fruit. Lush cherry fruit on the palate with firm tannins on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"The Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse 2019 is dark and intense, enticing with exotic spices, mandarin zest, cedar shavings and rum-soaked cherries. It is cool and racy in style, with crisp wild berries supported by lively acidity. Violet, floral notes arch across the palate. The momentum remains even as crisp tannins assault the senses, leaving a stain of tart cranberry and orange that slowly fades. I expect that three to five years of ageing will reveal a Brunello of boundless energy. The Cielo d'Ulisse is a single-vineyard wine that comes from vineyards in the extreme south-west of Montalcino." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
In the very well-balanced 2019 vintage, the winery offers us an extremely flavoursome and juicy wine that carries the spirit of Montalcino from the first to the last sip. Fine notes of sage and mint beautifully round off the warm, ripe and extremely rich fruit bouquet. The palate prances with a fine red berry acid wire that is underpinned by a great velvety texture. On the other hand, it is a taut, precise and particularly fresh Brunello that delights us even at a young age. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, spicy bouquet with fully ripe fruit, blue berries, ripe cherries, leather and sweet spices. Juicy and beguiling on the palate with redcurrant and pomegranate, followed by tobacco and delicate mineral and herbal notes with balsamic nuances. Very juicy and full of finesse, full of crackling tension and yet so seductive, stylish and powerful. It scores with its subtle and refined style on the spicy final." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby-garnet colour with a brightening rim. Extremely appealing nose, fine aromas of roses, ripe dark cherries, fresh blackberries and a hint of saffron. Supple on the palate with lush fruit, but then also shows grippy, present tannins, firm pressure on the final, long finish." Falstaff
"The Brunello is made from a large number of south-facing, airy plots at an altitude of 240 to 360 metres. The exceptionally fragrant 2019 wine smells of sweet Mediterranean herbs, arbutus and raspberries. It is medium-bodied with soft, sandy tannins and captivates with its tangerine freshness. While a hint of warming alcohol shines through, it retains its graceful stature." Decanter
"Sour cherries with undertones of stone and bark in the flavours. Medium body, firm tannins and a long, linear finish that ends tightly. However, it softens with age. Subtle bark and dried mushroom character at the end." James Suckling
"Dusky cherry and plum flavors are the main themes in this red, with accents of leather, spices and wild herbs. Lively and focused, with excellent harmony and a sequel of ripe cherry on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"This wine is not to be confused with a Brunello. The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows a beautiful continuity that unfolds in sync on the nose and palate. There are aromas of grilled watermelon, red cherry, garden herbs and violets, and there is a charred note reminiscent of toasted oak. The bouquet is very balanced, but on the palate it is much more powerful, thanks to the high alcohol content of 15% and the young tannins that hit the palate. Give this wine a few more years of bottle ageing." Wine Advocate
"A compact Brunello from Ciacci Piccolomini. The nose opens with notes of cranberry, then marjoram and a hint of eucalyptus. Juicy and taut drinkability, tasty tannins, closes with a return of small fruits and balsamic sensations." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Sandro Chias Annata presents itself taut, forward and downright bold in the glass. On the palate, its natural richness and lushness of fruit is convincing, complemented by varietal elements of wild cherry, blue flowers and soft earth. Then, in quick succession, secondary aromas of tobacco, cedar and cinnamon surprise, giving complexity and personality to the wine built up in many deep layers. This Brunello has wonderful potential for further bottle ageing, but it is already an absolute delight and the quality of the fruit and its length make it irresistible. SUPERIORE.DE
"Delicate bouquet of red berries, flowers and undergrowth; juicy in the mouth, compact, the tannins robust, nice melting, fine-meshed tannins, good length." Vinum
"To the northwest of Montalcino, Castello Romitorio’s vineyards are surrounded by thick woods receiving moderate sun exposure. The relatively cool setting was an advantage in 2017. Well put together with a graceful flow, this Brunello echoes its setting and opens with pronounced cedar and evocative forest floor accents. Neither heavy nor over-concentrated, the palate is replete with pulpy red berries. There is a succulence to the fruit and a silkiness to the texture, and nuances of pulverised stone weave throughout." Decanter
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is dusty, dark and floral at first, but with time, it becomes exotic and spicy. Black cherries lifted by minty herbs and camphor give way to floral undergrowth and tobacco as the 2017 gains in volume with each swirl of the glass. It’s silky-smooth and pliant yet shows remarkable purity and cooling acidity, as you perceive its red and hints of blue fruit slowly drenching the palate, leaving salty minerals and a coating of primary concentration. The long, penetrating finale mixes fine tannins and nuances of sour citrus in a powerful yet wonderfully balanced expression of the Romitorio vineyards." Vinous
"The Castello Romitorio 2017 Brunello di Montalcino comes from an estate that is quickly becoming a leader in a special niche of the Montalcino market. The wine is modern and soft, showing lots of contained ripeness and creaminess, yet it successfully embraces the fundamentals of the appellation and Sangiovese, thanks to its bright acidity and finely tuned structure. Few wines reach this level of precision, especially in a challenging vintage such as this." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Castelgiocondo” DOCG 2019
Our customers had to do without Frescobaldi's Castelgiocondo for several years, as we felt that it did not sufficiently reflect the elegance and finesse of the Montalcino region. After the winery made some stylistic changes in recent years, it has evolved from a rather opulent wine into a very authentic and cool interpretation of the appellation and we would therefore not like to withhold the very successful 2019 edition from you.
Opens beautifully in the glass with sour cherries, spiced oranges and dried flowers. Creamy textures on the drink, contrasted by cool minerality and juicy acids, nicely accompanied by small red berries under a hint of sweet herbs and inner flowers. Castelgiocondo 2019 still needs some time to develop, but it has the necessary balance and structure to mature into a real beauty. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very dark ruby red with bright orange-coloured reflections. Rich, brooding cherry with a hint of eucalyptus. Supple fruit that is still quite curled up at the same time. Grainy, long tannins and plenty of juice on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"The Brunello comes from plots located between 350 and 450 metres above sea level on the predominantly slate-rich Galestro. Concentrated and expressive, the nose reveals an intriguing blend of red cherries, plums, nutmeg and mint. The layers of generous fruit are lush and the tannins have a suede-like texture. Undertones of sweet earth and forest permeate the wine. Well made, everything is effortlessly in place." Decanter
"The Frescobaldi 2019 Brunello di Montalcino CastelGiocondo shows notes of oak, dried spices, redwood and smoked tobacco. At its core, the wine shows dark fruit and a high level of extraction. The tannins are soft and dissolved, making this Brunello a wine that can be drunk immediately. The wine is exactly where you want it to be." Wine Advocate
"Black cherries, black bark, blackberries and lavender. Medium to full-bodied with juicy and polished tannins and a long, flavourful finish. Needs four to five years to open up and develop." James Suckling
"South-west quadrant of the denomination, a Brunello of spicy and balsamic elegance. Refined nose, black cherry, touches of juniper, closes on cinnamon sensations. Density and drinkability on the palate, with iodized tannins and a return of black cherry hints, with citrusy touches." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Paesaggio Inatteso” DOCG 2019 (BIO)
The Paesaggio Inatteso selection comes from Camigliano's 3.5-hectare "La Magia" vineyard, which has mineral and calcareous soils. Only just under 3,000 bottles are bottled. It offers a more robust style and a stronger aromatic intensity than the Annata. Bright red with an amber-coloured rim. On the nose, round notes of walnut shells, roasted hazelnuts and linseed, as well as red plums, pomegranate seeds and green olives. Traces of incense and cardamom in the background. Full-bodied, lively tannins on the palate, with hints of red berries and flowers leading to an intense and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Nose of blackberries and tobacco; the attack is pithy, the tannins powerful, has race and polish." Vinum
"Attractive bouquet with wonderfully crisp red berry fruit, raspberry, fragolino, tobacco. Juicy in the mouth, clearly red-fruity, fine tannins, good freshness, crisp, fresh style, fine tannic grip, elegant and powerful, long, fresh, mineral final." Weinwisser
"Clear, bright ruby red colour. Mint, blackberry and juicy cherry on the nose, with a hint of candle wax, reminiscent of fresh honey, complex and inviting. Compact on the palate, with tightly woven tannins and fine pressure, constantly juicy again, also slightly salty hints, great harmony." Falstaff
"The organic Camigliano 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso shows plenty of ripe fruit with dark plums, prunes and blackcurrants. It also shows notes of smoked tobacco and cigar box. The difference between this wine and the village bottling is that the Paesaggio Inatteso matures a little longer in oak (30 months instead of 24 months) and the oak barrels are smaller (25 hectolitres instead of 60 hectolitres). A medium-heavy mouthfeel ends with still dusty tannins." Wine Advocate
"This version has it all, from the cherry, plum, earth and iron aromas and flavours to the well-integrated structure and long aftertaste. Fresh, supple and powerful, it shows finesse with a lingering mineral element on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Vibrant and vibrant red fruits of cranberry, red cherry and potpourri, followed by dried rosemary and pleasant orange peel that enhance the experience. Medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and firm but soft tannins. Pure and elegant. Needs time." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Brilliant, dark ruby colour. Deep bouquet of rich blackberry and cherry flavours with mentholated herbal notes that give it lift, while notes of cedar and clove develop in the glass. On the palate, the wine is a pure silk that slowly lays over the palate, with an admirable density and weight balanced by bright acidity and minerality. This still very young wine is full of potential with a core of dark primary fruit that already offers a good foretaste of the charm of later years. A finely woven tannin structure on the long final. Wonderful ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very beautiful, floral bouquet with delicate candied, ripe cherries, lilacs and rose petals. Powerful, juicy in the mouth, spicy-floral frame with rather red berry freshness, beautiful spice and herbal notes, good tension with quite supple, fine-grained tannins." Weinwisser
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Attractive, firm cherry fruit nose with balsamic, minty oak notes. Lots of supple, tangy cherry with grippy but polished tannins. A seductive whole that can be savoured now but also lasts a long time." Jancis Robinson
"Compact and exciting young red colour with lots of dark fruit and violets as well as subtle spicy and roasted undertones. Creamy and rich on the palate with balanced acidity. Persistent length with flavours of dried herbs on the finish. Needs more time to mellow." James Suckling
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is wild, opening with a savoury burst of spiced orange and clove before settling on black cherry and ashen rock. It feels creamy and seductive, with a wave of rich red fruit flowing easily across the palate, guided by juicy acidity. Tension builds on the finish as salty minerals mingle with edgy tannins, leaving a pleasantly bitter sensation and leaving the mouth wanting more. Although some patience will be required, I expect the 2019 to exceed expectations after just a few years of cellaring." Vinous
"The La Gerla 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has spicy, dried fruit with blackcurrant, pine cones, juniper berries and a hint of medicinal herbs or camphor ash. The oak is clearly evident in the form of fireflies or crushed cloves. On the palate, this Brunello is rather streamlined, and although the tannins are still slightly chalky, they are now almost accessible." Wine Advocate
"One of the company's gems, a Brunello of rare reliability. On the nose, notes of red mulberry, then eucalyptus and cinnamon, with hints of gardenia. The sip is savoury, with a return of balsamic sensations and red mulberry. Closes with floral notes." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Lisini's vineyards are located between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the inner edge of the Sesta area and are cleansed by the constant breeze from the Tuscan coast. The stony soils with a significant proportion of limestone and the altitude of over 300 metres help to maintain the freshness of the wines. The 2018 is wonderfully fragrant, almost exotic. Plump red fruits and sweet summer herbs fill the mouth, but instead of being heavy, it is balanced and transparent. The powdery tannins are fine and lead to a long, maritime finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep, shiny ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Very closed and backward on the nose. Cherry on the palate with a slight hint of dried fruit, but much more convincing than it sounds. Long yet restrained on the finish, with fine-grained tannins that only reveal their complex depth at the very end. Skilfully made, and there is more to come." Jancis Robinson
"Warm, fragrant aromas of red berries and flowers open the round; elegant attack, but also with character, melting and good length. Pleasing with its elegant yet powerful texture." Vinum
"Very classic Sangiovese nose, dark cherries, sour cherry (Marasca), fine wood, very classic style on the palate too, incredibly juicy with fine spice and salty hints, compact but by no means rustic, rather balanced and with a lot of structure. Compact juiciness. Wonderful presence, noble elegance, fantastically integrated acidity and tannins. Beautiful piquancy. Stony and firm style. Long-lasting." Weinwisser
"Like a kid in a sweet shop, it's a pleasure to take in the candy, medicinal cherry, blueberry compote and liquorice aromas of the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. While the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is silky and elegant, it is also racy and full of character, as the red and black berries are complemented by notes of cinnamon, cloves and a bitter hint of cocoa. The 2018 finishes powerful and long, but only slightly structured, which suggests a certain amount of ageing, but also that it is showing off all its skills. Almost a minute passes and nuances of violet pastilles and red sweets still linger." Vinous
"Strawberry liqueur with herbal notes on the nose. Juicy and refreshing, modern in style, but promising for the coming years." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of medium volume and intensity with dark fruits, ripe cherries, black plums, spices and sweet floral earth. This theme of sweetness continues on the soft, lightly structured palate. The wine is ready to drink in the short to medium term; the tannins are round and ready, and it finishes with bright acidity." Wine Advocate
"Rich and deep, with base notes of plum and loamy earth balancing the flavours of cherry, hibiscus and eucalyptus. Dense, with muscular tannins and a lively acidity to support it. The long aftertaste is reminiscent of earth and Mediterranean scrub." Wine Spectator
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Fragrant, inviting nose of ripe wild berries, candle wax, fine spicy tones and some liquorice. On the palate, with pithy tannins that beautifully envelop the clear fruit, balanced and elegant." Falstaff
"Dark fruit aromas stretch across the nose but don't entirely mask hints of vanilla, pencil shavings and a salty, peppery stoniness. On the palate, the vanilla escalates to initially further emphasize the dark fruits, before new undertones of bitter orange and meaty umami elements emerge. Acid zips around dense tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Sant'Angelo in Colle, a wine of excellent juiciness that expresses Lisini's great craftsmanship. Notes of dogwood, then chinotto and juniper. The palate has juicy tannins, beautiful citrus-olfactory nuances and a fruity return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
With the 2018 Brunello, Campogiovanni succeeds in making an extremely successful and classic appearance: dense garnet red with a well-perfumed bouquet of black fruits, espresso, grilled meat and Asian-like spicy aromas. Viscous and concentrated on the palate, and despite its power and expressiveness, it reveals a dedication to elegance and finesse even at a young age. Exceptionally good! SUPERIORE.DE
"Engaging aromas of raspberries and violets, also pepper; pithy on the palate, the tannins robust, the texture fresh, lovely berry-wood finish." Vinum
"Bright, radiant ruby red. In the nose lots of sweet wood, vanilla, roasted hazelnuts, delicate fumé, frisich, cherries and blood oranges. On the palate with sweetish fruit, dominated by the use of wood, wide-meshed tannin in the finish." Falstaff
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is remarkably beautiful with a fruit-driven bouquet of wild strawberries, sweet rose and cinnamon spice. It has a soft texture and lively acidity that gives it a juicy character, while peppery red berries and sweet herbal tones resonate. The palate remains watery as a train of sloppy tannins and a note of sour cherry with citrus flavours slowly fade away. After a short stay in the cellar, this zesty wine will give much pleasure." Vinous
"Expressive nose of olives, sour cherries, plum seeds, tomato leaves, cardamom and spice box. It is full-bodied with firm, slightly chewy tannins. Structured and well-framed, with sophisticated spice notes on the finish. Try it in 2025." James Suckling
"The Campogiovanni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino definitely shows a lot of richness and concentration, translating into more fruit weight and texture. The effect is a little heavy and overdone in my opinion, and this vintage prioritises brawn over nuanced detail. There's a lot coming at once, with ripe plums, blackberries and spice." Wine Advocate
"The nose is metallic and stony, with a puff of petrol, like a road trip in winter, but also brighter notes of bergamot, black currant and black cherry. The palate embraces the bitter fruitiness of bergamot before savory notes return for a bitter finish. A balanced, polished and integrated wine." Wine Enthusiast
"Very reminiscent of Sangiovese, this red wine combines both fruity and spicy elements - cherry, strawberry, hibiscus, wet hay, iron and tobacco - with a firm structure. Expressive, balanced, lively and long, with stiff tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna del Lago” DOCG 2016
The northern slope of Montalcino was not once covered with vines, but was cultivated with cereals, olives and cherries. In this area, influenced by the Apennines, the seasons are more pronounced, continental and the north wind lowers the temperature significantly in winter. It is therefore the coldest Brunello area at this time of year, but also the wettest. This northern slope is a gentle hill: a characteristic more reminiscent of the Crete Senesi area, right next to it, than of the two stiffer, steeper and warmer southern slopes of Montalcino.
Due to the climate and the origin of the soils, the grapes in this area of Montalcino are harvested last every year. Vigna del Lago is the vineyard that welcomes all visitors arriving from the north of Montalcino. It takes its name from the lake that surrounds it and plays a fundamental role in the microclimate of the area; the soil is a constant alternation between clay and strips of very fine galestro.
Brunello Vigna del Lago is a historic cru from the Val di Suga winery, it is an old school Brunello, from the times before the arrival of barriques and technology. An authentic product that is enjoying increasing demand. Unlike the Poggio al Granchio, which is aged in new French 300-litre barriques, this wine is aged in large 30- and 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels.
It is a wine with a lower alcohol content, bright orange-ruby colour, with very fine and almost imperceptible tannins, with a floral nose of citrus notes, myrtle and fresh cherries. It is a Brunello of great richness and balance, and also has a very pleasant lightness, well-contoured acidity and a salty, mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Appetising berry-herb nose; juicy in the mouth with plenty of polish and a lovely final on notes of wild berries and balsamic nuances. Makes you want more." Vinum
"Multi-layered aroma with ripe cherries, dried red flowers, violets, iron. Very linear and tightly woven on the palate, but with a super mature, complex tannic structure that embraces the wine fully and energetically, very grippy and vertically oriented with lively acidity and vibrant final." Weinwisser
"Powerful, bright ruby. Very clear and precise nose, fragrant, of ripe dark cherries, cardamom in the background. Very much juicy fruit on the palate, opens with well-integrated, fine-meshed tannin, round and smooth, fine salty components in the final." Falstaff
"Just mid ruby. Perfumed cherry and oak nose with a hint of coffee bean. Elegant and vibrant cherry and raspberry palate, yet with great depth. Fresh, nervy and long with coating tannins adding more depth to the fruit on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"Forest-floor, camphor, wild-berry and toasted nut aromas lead the way. Elegantly structured, the linear palate offers dried cherry, blood orange, star anise and hazelnut framed in close-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"This starts out with pronounced iron and graphite aromas and flavors, wrapped around a beam of black cherry and black currant fruit. Earth, tobacco and wild herb accents get swept up in the dense, dusty tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Crushed gravel and dried earth on the nose with intense layers of mushrooms, dried oysters and potpourri. Dried flowers and grapefruit peel. It's full-bodied with refined tannins and a long, elegant finish. Quite tight. Juicy and savory at the end." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015 (BIO)
Fornacinas Riserva 2015 is a bold and powerful wine that makes a great first impression. The wine is never shy or reserved. It offers intensity on two levels: On the one hand, it offers a wonderfully firm structure with plenty of warmth and harmony. On the other hand, it convinces with textural richness and wonderful secondary aromas that come with three years of oak aging. The tannins will tolerate another one or two years of bottle ripening to become even softer and more relaxed. SUPERIORE.DE
"Firmness and finesse with blackberry and black-cherry aromas and flavors. Some walnut and wet-leaf undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine, succulent tannins that follow through nicely." James Suckling
"Balsam notes with cola, rosemary and lavender essence lift gently from the bouquet of the Fornacina 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This wine is made with organically farmed fruit. As it opens in the glass, you get a clear picture of the dark fruit at its core and of the delicate limestone dustings that frame the bouquet. This wine draws its fruit from a five-hectare parcel with Alkaline soils rich with numerous mineral components. The complexity of the soils is reflected in the bouquet, and this warm vintage expression delivers ample structure, velvety tannins and lasting intensity." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
The grapes for Mastrojanni's Brunello come from a 14.4 hectare south-facing vineyard with loamy soils and lots of boulders. The rich bouquet is characterised by red stone fruit, baking spices and hints of rum cake. Dark and velvety on the palate with great appeal and precision. It is already accessible when young and interprets the classic 2018 vintage in an authentic way. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripe red and black berries with a hint of plums, smoke, nuts, some bread crust and hints of coffee grounds on the nose, somewhat tobacco and barrel wood. Ripe, melting, partly preserved, juicy fruit with clear plum tones, crumbly tannin, nutty and slightly cocoa-spicy wood notes, persistent on the palate, certain alcohol warmth, some bite, good depth and excellent substance, a hint of salt in the background, hinted ethereal spice of herbs, pepper and juniper, very good to long, firm, rather juicy finish with fine spice." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby red colour. Fragrant, open-hearted nose of blood orange, mint, sealing wax, blackberry, with a Mediterranean herb aftertaste. Clear and radiant on the palate, with a savoury red fruit core, fine-meshed tannins and a great salty undertone, flows beautifully." Falstaff
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino exudes a savoury and smoky blend of rich cherry sauce, wilted violets and grilled herbs. It is round and almost juicy in character, with a strong wave of ripe red fruits and autumnal spices that leave a collection of fine tannins in their wake. The 2018 finishes youthfully structured, with nuances of sour citrus and salted liquorice slowly fading away." Vinous
"The nose leans savory and earthy, with aromas of coffee, balsamic, soil and tomato leaf, but undertones of black cherry and vanilla flourish with time. The palate is heavy with sweet, juicy cherry notes that are lifted by a swirl of chocolate and vanilla, but a blast of salt and bright acid create an almost jumpy sensation." Wine Enthusiast
"Bright cherry on the nose with dried flowers of violets and lavender. Smooth on the palate, velvety tannins and an expressive finish." Decanter
"This rich, round red wine is characterised by plum and cherry fruit, with notes of wild rosemary, juniper and stony minerals. Tightly wound, with an edgy, steely finish that lingers nicely despite the assertive tannins. Shows good energy." Wine Spectator
"The Mastrojanni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino with the red wax seal on the front of the bottle shows dark fruits, dried cherries, orris root, savoury spices and crushed stone. The wine displays a classic aromatic profile for Sangiovese from Montalcino. Otherwise, the wine is silky and soft with integrated tannins." Wine Advocate
"Historic winery capable of renewing its own versions of Brunello in terms of flavour freshness. Black raspberry on the nose, a hint of thyme and peony, with notes of nutmeg. The mouthfeel has salty tannins, a fruity-floral return and a nice flavour tension. Persistent." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Lisini's vineyards are located between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the inner edge of the Sesta area and are cleansed by the constant breeze from the Tuscan coast. The stony soils with a significant proportion of limestone and the altitude of over 300 metres help to maintain the freshness of the wines.
Carlo Lisini Baldi's Brunello di Montalcino 2019 opens with dark concentration and extraction. The initial nose reveals floral aromas of pressed roses and violets, then after a few minutes in the glass the wine offers a complex potpourri of dark cherries, dried blackberries, Indian spices, teriyaki sauce, crushed rocks and a subtle note of liquorice. It clearly draws its personality from equal parts elegance and power. Extremely soft and supple on the palate, it delivers beautiful end notes of dusty minerals and some clay alongside its plump fruit. This delicious wine can't help but move forward. SUPERIORE.DE
"After a little aeration, a pleasant, multi-faceted nose of raspberries and flowers, also balsamic nuances; juicy on the palate, the ripe acidity and fine-meshed tannins balanced, fresh and fruity and yet extremely elegant on the finish." Vinum
"Very classic Sangiovese nose, sour cherry (Marasca), dark cherry, very classic style on the palate too, incredibly juicy with fine spice and salty hints, compact and structurally strong, but by no means rustic, rather balanced, with grippy juiciness. Wonderful presence, noble elegance, fantastically integrated acidity and tannins. Beautiful piquancy. Stony and firm style. A long-lasting classic!" Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with cherry-red reflections. Complex on the nose, cherry, redcurrant, then marjoram and liquorice, with a subtle cocoa butter and mint aftertaste and a renewed emphasis on fruit. Energetic on the palate, good tension and precise progression, polished tannins wrapped in a rich fruit melt, currently still somewhat drying on the finish." Falstaff
"Deep ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Very deep and still slumbering, with mineral and exotic, dark spicy notes. Increasingly complex with aeration. Smooth, soft cherry fruit, densely packed with fine, chewy tannins. Very long and concentrated and with great potential." Jancis Robinson
"The Lisini 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a dark and spicy bouquet with plums, cardamom, asphalt and wet stone. The wine is quite developed and for this reason I would not recommend a very long drinking time. Cola and dried rosemary twigs can be recognised in the background. This is a dark Brunello with concentrated fruit to drink in the medium term." Wine Advocate
"A smooth and structured red wine with aromas and flavours of black cherry, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a chewy finish. Integrated and supple. Drink it after 2027." James Suckling
"Medicinal blackberries, sweet sage, stone dust and candied orange define the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino, which is juicy and vibrant with purple and lavender-coloured wild berries and chalky mineral tones that build to a saturation of minerality towards the finish. A web of fine-grained tannins lingers as the 2019 finishes long and spotty, but only lightly structured. Hints of salted liquorice linger. This is a stylish Brunello from the southern Montalcino region of Lisini." Vinous
"The 2019 epitomises this warm, lush, exotically fragrant southern part of Montalcino. Ripe strawberries and red roses blend beautifully with chestnuts, iron and sun-kissed earth. The wine has a lush texture, generous body and flavour that exudes fleshy persimmon and ripe strawberries. The palate is dripping with lush acidity, and a mineral drive lifts the core. The sandy tannins are relatively supple without losing their commanding grip, and the wine finishes with crushed allspice." Decanter
"Leafy undergrowth, earth and dusty mineral notes frame the core of cherry and raspberry flavours in this juicy red wine, which is supple and has a layer of chalky tannins on the finish. Overall balanced, with a long, cherry aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Pelagrilli” DOCG 2019
At a young age, Pelagrilli 2019 is already more open and pleasing than Pacenti's flagship Vecchie Vigne from the same vintage. The bouquet is rich and engaging with dark cherries, herbs and young leather. The palate is powerful, precise and excellently structured, with the recognisable wood well integrated. In addition to a very appealing extract sweetness, the long final reveals salty notes that are otherwise only found in Casanova di Neri's Tenuta Nuova. A wonderful Sangiovese from a great vintage with an almost ideal climate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant, shiny ruby red colour. Nose of forest fruits, milk chocolate, fine earthy notes and dried rose petal, mint, blood orange on the finish. Full-bodied on the palate, dark fruity, with a savoury, powerful finish, the alcohol is very well integrated, round and full, without missing its juiciness on the finish, long." Falstaff
"Dark ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. An abundance of spices and mineral, salty notes as well as hints of sweet oak on the nose. Smooth, multi-layered flavour of cherries and mint with firm, grainy tannins. Gentle, long and captivating." Jancis Robinson
"Pungent mint and eucalyptus mingle with oregano and rosemary. The palate is dense and compact with intense blackcurrant and all the oily balsamic herbs that flash on the nose. Through its robust weight, a bright acidity gives the wine vibrancy, brightness and focus. The tannins are dry yet supple, lending a grainy texture to the fruit. The wine has a distinct style and handles its high alcohol content of 15.5% with surprising aplomb." Decanter
"A beguiling blend of mint, cedar and spiced orange slowly gives way to dried strawberries as the spicy and seductive 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli blossoms in the glass. Silky and round, it flows across the palate with a dense wave of ripe red and black fruits accompanied by a bitter bite of cloves and dark chocolate. The finish is long and inward, structured with sweet tannins, while hints of violet and lavender fade. I can really feel the heavy clay soils in this version of Pelagrilli as they give it weight and a plush feel, yet the energy of the vintage shines through." Vinous
"The Siro Pacenti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli is strongly characterised by an oak tone that comes to the fore with a hint of campfire ash or freshly split firewood. The wine shows rock-solid concentration and a level of phenolic extraction not easily found in Montalcino, unless you make it your mission. The tannins are bitter and grippy, and the oak tannins overshadow the fruit tannins at this very young stage of the wine. The alcohol content is very high at 15.5 %. Nevertheless, the 2019 offers an excellent core of dark fruit, and it has the elements and freshness for long ageing." Wine Advocate
"Beautiful fresh fruit with crushed cherries, orange peel and flowers. Pure. Full-bodied with round and juicy fruit and a long, creamy finish. Flamboyant and beautiful with velvety and creamy tannins that offer a wonderful texture." James Suckling
"The north-east quadrant of the "hill", Siro Pacenti's beautiful sustainable project, the product of the youngest vines. Black cherry on the nose, nuances of wild mint and white pepper. Intense sip, iodised, with a return of sweet spices." Luca Gardini
"Packed with vibrant black cherries, blackcurrants and plums, as well as iron, toast and tobacco accents, this red wine shows a certain power and tension, but also grace and balance. The lingering aftertaste shows bright, ripe fruit and wild herbs." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Paesaggio Inatteso” DOCG 2016
The Paesaggio Inatteso selection comes from Camigliano's 3.5 hectare vineyard "La Magia", which has mineral and calcareous soils. Bright ruby red. Cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco aromas on the nose, taut, precise and full of personality on the palate. The tannins are soft and well integrated, making it an opulent, powerful and long-lasting pleasure even when young. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red. In the nose a slight hint of strawberry, then of ripe cherries and wild berries, shows nuances of pomegranate and dried rose petal. Juicy and clear on the palate, stretches out in many layers, beautiful red fruit, with persistence." Falstaff
"Plum and black cherry aromas and flavors highlight this dense, muscular red, accented by wild herb, iron and sanguine notes. Staying vibrant and long, this is balanced, with the quality of tannins in line with the southwestern sector of Montalcino." Wine Spectator
"The Camigliano 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso is a tiny production of just 2,600 bottles, all drawn from a two-hectare site with sandy limestone, located apart from the estate's core vineyard block, which the Ghezzi family holds in special regard. Indeed, the character of this wine is quite different from the classic 2016 Brunello. I don't get those heavier aromas of asphalt or charred earth here. This wine is much softer in approach with delicate and pure fruit. Cherry, plum and dried raspberry cede to light spice and tobacco. Paesaggio Inatteso means "unexpected landscape" in Italian, and this wine does stand apart from the others in the Camigliano portfolio." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of forest floor, eucalyptus, violet and coffee bean take shape in the glass. Full bodied and savory, the firm palate doles out mouthfuls of ripe black cherry, mature plum, licorice and baking spice alongside enveloping, fine-grained tannins, a great showing." Wine Enthusiast
"A rich, decadent red with black-cherry and flower aromas, as well as citrus and crushed stone. Some wet bark, too. It's full-bodied, yet reserved and toned with nicely crafted tannins that melt into the wine. Vivid acidity. A poised, polished red." James Suckling

"Cosy bouquet of flowers, herbs and black forest fruits; the attack is balanced, harmonious, with juice and suppleness right into the complex finish. convinces with its polish." Vinum
"A fragrant Brunello that convinces with small red and dark fruits and increasingly reveals floral notes with air. Amarena cherry, leather. On the palate, a fine melting style, polished, juicy, elegant, red berry spice and plum. Beautiful drinking flow that is already fun. It still has room for improvement." Weinwisser
"Almost a little developed, barrel-woody and tobacco-like aroma of predominantly black berries, some tar, ash, iodine and forest floor. Clear, straightforward, ripe, almost cool, predominantly red fruit, quite present, fine tannins, a certain acid bite, persistent on the palate, herbal and salty nuances, moderate barrel tones, again a little forest messenger, resinous traces, good depth, restrained power, elegant style, multi-layered, gains transparency and freshness with air, very good to long, firm, tart-juicy finish with fine spice." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby red colour, radiant. Appealing, open nose of leather, rosehips, blood oranges, with fine precious wood and dark berry notes on the finish. Grippy, firm tannins on the palate, with plenty of juice and finesse" Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Balsamic and with just a hint of sour cherry and a touch of spice, and with brooding concentration. A sense of richness on the palate with plenty of cherry fruit framed by delicious, chewy tannins. Lots of depth. Ripe now, but with the potential to age further." Jancis Robinson
"The Vigna del Lago surrounds the Val di Suga winery in the north-west of Montalcino. The gently sloping vineyard lies on clay soil at 280 metres above sea level. The wine is aged exclusively in large Slavonian oak barrels with a capacity of 30 to 40 hectolitres in order to preserve the wonderful purity of the sweet fruit. The 2018 is subtly perfumed and exudes delicate aromas of white flowers and oranges that emphasise the scent of red berries. Light and lively, it is initially more reminiscent of a Rosso di Montalcino, but a powdery texture and its persistent mineral core add complexity." Decanter
"Smooth and juicy, with flavours of cherry, plum, sage and leather. Light and lively, with fine tannins on the finish. Shows excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is perfumed, with crushed blackberries and plums accompanied by minty herbs and a hint of smoke. It is silky-smooth yet racy in style, with masses of tart wild berries accompanied by vibrant acidity. Violet and lavender tones resonate, while the Vigna del Lago finishes structured and slightly chewy with silty tannins and a hint of bitter cocoa that lingers." Vinous
"The nose blends the adventurous aromas of leather, stone and coffee with lighter notes of vanilla, cherries and bitter orange peel. On the palate, a current of blood orange bolsters the cherry element, while the vanilla sweetness pushes back against a swelling bitter undertone. Taut tannins march into a warm finish." Brunello di Montalcino “Pianrosso” DOCG 2017
Piccolomini's single-vineyard Brunello Vigna di Pianrosso 2017 comes from a south-western site of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone at an altitude of about 300 metres. It is beautiful and delicate from the start and spontaneously impresses with its vitality, depth and balance. Compared to the basic Brunello, the wine matures for another year in oak barrels and you can feel the added spice on the nose. Rich spices, leather and tar are followed by dark fruits, plum, blackberry and cassis. The finish is graceful and silky, its length is impressive. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripening, quite dark red; ripe fruit notes, dried figs, appealing; round approach, fullness, fruit ripeness, juicy, long, pleasant tartness, pleasing." Merum
"Seductive fruity nose with notes of wild flowers and spices, spiced up with notes of maquis and tobacco; polished on the palate, the tightly woven tannin and accentuated acidity in perfect balance, the finish exceedingly elegant and long as an oak. Superbly made and with potential." Vinum
"The CruWein has one more gear than the Annata. Multifaceted bouquet with wonderfully fresh ethereal notes, earthy hints as well as refined grilled aromas that remind us a little of red peppers, behind which leathery and herbaceous as well as floral nuances emerge, reminiscent of rose petals and violets. Finesse-rich palate with fresh, juicy fruit expression at the core, skilfully framed by fine polished tannin, wonderfully fresh and gripping, elegant style, with dark, ethereal spicy notes on the long final. Bravo!" Weinwisser
"Brightening, sparkling garnet red. Opens with emphatically fragrant notes, of fresh dark cherries, some rosehip, fine rose petals, amazingly fresh notes. Round and supple on the attack, opens with beautifully ripened fruit notes, grippy tannin, very well placed." Falstaff
"A nuanced, delicate bouquet of dried strawberries, roses, hints of sweet spice and crushed rocks lifts up from the charming 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso. This is remarkably lifted, yet juicy and energetic, as ripe red berries and minerals cascade across the palate. It leaves a coating of violet-tinged florals, along with persistent raspberry and cherry tones. The tannin management here is absolutely stunning, as the Pianrosso finishes structured yet vividly fresh." Vinous
"This is a beautifully crafted and polished Brunello for this vintage, with full body and creamy, lightly chewy tannins. Dark berries, walnuts and cedar with dried-flower undertones. Needs time to soften, but very pretty. Drink after 2024." James Suckling
"The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso shows nice balance and elegance, and it definitely shows the deft hand of the winemaking team in what was not an easy vintage by any stretch. This pretty wine delivers lots of fresh cherry and wild rose, with ferrous earthy, licorice and grilled herb; I also get bay leaf and rosemary sprig. Like the annata 2017 Brunello produced by this estate, the single-vineyard Brunello Pianrosso is distinguished by a sweet cherry note that accompanies the wine from start to finish." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Pertimali” DOCG 2017
The even stricter selection of the grapes in 2017 led to a total of half the number of bottles compared to previous vintages. The result, however, is impressive: An extremely attractive bouquet with earthy notes, only gradually revealing ripe strawberries, spicy herbs, leather and a little coffee. As it progresses, spicy orange peel, sour cherry and mint, followed by salty minerals. The lively acidity ensures that the wine remains fresh and supple despite its compact structure. The initially firm tannins gracefully envelop the pretty fruit core with further aeration, and in the long final we then discover sweet spices and traces of white pepper. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Sassetti Livio Pertimali 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is quite bright and lifted with cherries and fresh fruits that pop from the glass. The primary intensity is radiant in this wine, setting it apart from many of its peers. It covers the palate with mid-weight intensity, nice acidity and silky tannins. The brightness you get here is so attractive now, so I see little reason to wait much longer before pulling this cork." Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known with a burst of dusty black raspberries, mentholated herbs, crushed ashen stone and dark flowery undergrowth. Silky-smooth and round in feel, it impresses with a cooling wave of mint-infused wild berry fruits mixed with balsamic spices and wood-smoked salts. While the 2017 doesn’t have the weight and density you’d expect from such a young Pertimali, yet it makes up for it with grace and purity, leaving a light coating of tannins and minerals to mingle throughout the finale." Vinous
"Black cherry and mushroom with some dried flower undertones. Full-bodied with fine velvety tannins and a juicy and succulent finish. The tannins are very polished for a 2017. Try from 2023 onwards." James Suckling
"One of the founding wineries of the Brunello Consortium, an ancient wisdom that proceeds in the line of tradition to realize wines of excellence. The nose is neat and intriguing, with small red fruits, touches of red currant, star anise and undergrowth, with a finish of freshness, on the notes of wild mint. The mouthfeel is juicy and dense, closing with officinal return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna del Lago” DOCG 2019
In the past, the northern slope of Montalcino was not planted with vines, but was cultivated with cereals, olives and cherries. In this area influenced by the Apennines, the seasons are more pronounced, continental and the north wind significantly lowers the temperature in winter. It is therefore the coldest Brunello region at this time of year, but also the wettest. This northern slope is a gentle hill: a characteristic that is more reminiscent of the Crete Senesi area, right next door, than the two stiffer, steeper and warmer southern slopes of Montalcino.
Due to the climate and the origin of the soil, the grapes in this area of Montalcino are harvested last every year. Vigna del Lago is the vineyard that welcomes all visitors travelling from the north of Montalcino. It takes its name from the lake that surrounds it and which plays a fundamental role in the microclimate of the area; the soil is a constant alternation between clay and strips of very fine Galestro.
Vigna del Lago is a historic cru from the Val di Suga winery, it is an old-school Brunello, from the times before the arrival of barriques and technology. An authentic product that is enjoying increasing demand. Unlike the Poggio al Granchio, which is aged in new Liters French barriques, this wine matures in large 30 and 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. It is a wine with a low alcohol content, light orange-ruby colour, with very fine and almost imperceptible tannins, with a floral nose of citrus notes, myrtle and fresh cherries. It is a Brunello of great richness and balance and also has a very pleasant lightness, well-contoured acidity and a salty, mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, shiny ruby red colour. Spicy nose of cypress, herbs and red berries, with fine earthy, stony notes. Beautiful juiciness on the palate, clear fruit and tightly woven tannins, cool, with an appealing feel, beautiful salinity on the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is dark and brooding, with a delicate blend of ashen stones and grilled herbs that segue into dried black cherries. This wine is silky and enveloping, with fresh acidity and vibrant, ripe wild berry flavours that cascade. Lively acidity keeps the energy high, while the 2019 finishes long and spotty but surprisingly juicy, leaving hints of violet pastille over a bed of fine-grained tannins." Vinous
"A delicate style, featuring strawberry, cherry, rose and stony mineral aromas and flavors. Offers an underlying salinity, with light, powdery tannins that cling to the gums on the long, loamy finish." Wine Spectator
"The Vigna del Lago, which surrounds the Val di Suga wine cellar in the north-east of Montalcino, is cooled by northerly winds and bordered by cypress trees. The vines are planted at an altitude of 280 metres on clay soil. This bottling is aged in 40-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is light, dense and still slightly reduced at the moment, opening up with dark cherries and alpine herbs. The fine-boned frame contains cranberries and redcurrants with traces of blood orange and forest roots. Vertical tannins occupy the mid-palate, and the finish is carried by lively, citrusy acidity. This austerity says: wait!" Decanter
"Smells of subtle fruits and flowers with cedar and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a fresh and fruity finish. All about beautiful, perfectly ripe fruit with an undertone of citrus blossom. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Cherry accentuated bouquet with hints of violet blossoms, clove, cigar box and a pleasant spicy sweetness. Dense and expressive on the palate, it opens vibrantly and multilayered and then reveals a beautiful load of black cherry, exotic spices and a fine salty vein. The perfectly balanced tannin always provides the necessary balance and gives it a racy, very long finish with its exceedingly refined flavour components. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium to deep ruby red. Perfumed, spicy nose with mineral notes. Fine polished fruit that is really fresh. Long, grainy tannins. Lush and fresh at the same time." Jancis Robinson
"The Castiglion del Bosco 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is robust and powerful from the start, showing broad shoulders and plenty of muscle. But at the end of the day, the wine's concentration remains on the medium to medium-bodied side of the spectrum. It remains firmly within the confines of Sangiovese. Dark fruits and blackcurrants segue into savoury notes of toasted spices, black olives, earth and rusty nails." Wine Advocate
"In the far northwest of Montalcino, the sprawling Castiglion del Bosco estate stretches over several hills of varying heights, exposures and textures. From 42 hectares dedicated to Brunello comes this impressive production. The 2018 does not explode with its fragrance, but slowly unfolds its suggestive floral scents. These reach a crescendo on the palate, melding seamlessly with joyful, pure pomegranate and cherry flavours. The supple tannins have a velvety texture. Unrestrained and fluid, it's hard to resist now." Decanter
"Ripe berries and hints of red liquorice and herbs on the nose, medium-bodied on the palate with fine, tightly packed tannins and a taut finish for now. Give it two years to relax a little. Taste from 2025." James Suckling
"The nose puts cherries front and center, intertwined with roses with heavier tar and graphite, before umami flavors of mushroom, balsamic vinegar, seaweed and soy slowly emerge. On the chalky palate, dark chocolate pushes up against the showboating cherries before a kick of spice sets up a long, energetic finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Exuding a dusty blend of cedar spice, mentholated herbs, rose petals and sour cherry, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino feels round and supple, with floral red and black fruits complemented by a subtle hint of sweet spice. The palate leaves a bitter aftertaste of sour berries, while a touch of residual acidity gives the wine a pleasing freshness and a gentle tannin slowly retreats. The 2018 has improved every time I've tasted it over the past five months, and it now shows the robustness of northwestern Montalcino Sangiovese, but in a wonderfully balanced way." Vinous
"Rich at the start, with a touch of glycerine in the texture before civilised tannins take over on the finish. It offers notes of plum, cherry, earth, tobacco and iron that come through, with a firm grip of tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator
"From a parcel of the Capanna vineyard, one of the most accomplished expressions of the winery run by managing director Simone Pallesi. Pomegranate notes on the nose, with balsamic nuances of eucalyptus and rhubarb. Salty, juicy tannins on the palate, fruity-balsamic finish." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Pertimali” DOCG 2018
Earthy notes on the nose, only gradually revealing ripe strawberries, spicy herbs, leather and some coffee. As it progresses, spicy orange peel, sour cherry and mint, followed by salty minerals. "Deep ruby with a rich garnet rim. Opens on the nose with emphatically ripe notes of pickled cherries and dried plums, plus lots of molasses, seems like a Brunello from days gone by. Blossoms on the palate, lots of ripe fruit, opens with hearty, grippy tannins, lots of power, delicately bitter final." Falstaff
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino captivates with dark, balsamic-tinged black cherries, plum sauce and autumnal spices. It is velvety to the core, almost opulent on the palate, with a dense wave of ripe red fruits complemented by nuances of sweet lavender and tobacco. It leaves the palate with fine tannins and a primary concentration that create a classic feel that transcends the vintage. Almost a minute passes with notes of cocoa and sweet herbs still lingering. Wonderful! Production at the Pertimali estate was down 20% due to the spring frost, and they decided to put all the juice normally destined for the Riserva into the pure Brunello, resulting in one of the top wines of the vintage." Vinous
"The nose is fruity and fizzy, like cherry cola, with roots and mixed herbs bringing a welcome savory element. The palate is sweet and juicy with cherries, but balance comes from an undertone of dark chocolate, before the nose's lightly medicinal quality emerges again. Acidity positively fizzes around powerful tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Intense aromas of black cherries, lavender and spices, like nutmeg. Also some sandalwood and bark. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and tannins for the vintage. Rather viscous, suggesting that further bottle ageing is required." James Suckling
