Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Laura Brunelli's Brunello is an outstanding reflection of the appellation every year. A floral bouquet, the purest expression of cherry and strawberry imaginable, hints of mint, sage and cedar dust - all are found in its stunning bouquet. The youthful density of the ripe primary fruit contrasts with salty minerality and lively acidity, leaving a cascading and crisp impression on the palate. The 2017 is not yet ready to show all its treasures, instead it impresses with its sheer potential, rejuvenating with fine tannins, hints of liquorice and gorgeous inner flowers. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium warm red; depth of fruit, spicy, very inviting; sweetness, round, fine, juicy, round tannin, elegant brunello, fruit length, long, pleases very much." (JLF) Merum
"Sweet cherries and berries with some smoke and ash undertones. Medium body with firm, silky tannins that are slightly chewy, but polished and very pleasant for the vintage." James Suckling
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is deeply expressive, showing peppery red berries and pomegranate plus hints of tomato leaf and sage, reminding me of that moment you add fresh herbs to a just-finished ragù. This is pure silk on the palate, rich and pliant, as it slowly saturates the senses with mineral-laced red and hints of blue fruit. Intensely primary and licorice-tinged, it tapers off grippy and classically dry to lasting rosy florals. The 2017 is a bit like a tamed beast of a Brunello." Vinous
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is beautifully bright and stitched up with extreme focus and sharpness. Sangiovese has this gorgeous ability to show linearity and lift, but it remains elegant and tight at the same time. This wine accomplishes all of this, and that's saying a lot given the heat and drought of this vintage. The acidity is bright and the finish is long and smooth with citrusy end notes of blood orange followed by wild rose and lilac. Fruit comes from a 4.5-hectare site with sand and galestro soils." Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013
There are not 8,000 bottles of this great Brunello, a powerful and at the same time highly elegant wine. Ettore and Enrica Bandirola learned how to make wine from scratch at no less than Giancarlo (Siro) Pacenti. Insider tip! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino shows impressive balance with a dark appearance that is not heavy and a compact texture that remains light and elegant all at once. Bold cherry fruit segues to licorice, tar and tangy cedar wood. The wine is silky and fresh with moderate to long persistence." Wine Advocate
"Dark and mysterious, this red offers plum, black cherry, leather, leafy tobacco and tar flavors. Fresh and lifted up by a layer of beefy tannins, lingering with a spicy, underbrush aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"A red with plenty of ripe and floral fruit on the nose as well as orange peel and cherry. Full body, linear and very fine with beautiful fruit. White pepper, too. Shows energy." James Suckling
"Elegantly scented, this fragrant red opens with scents of perfumed berry, iris, pipe tobacco and exotic spice. The vibrant linear palate evokes juicy cranberry, sour cherry and star anise framed in tightly wound fine-grained tannins while bright acidity provides balance. A savory saline note lingers on the finish." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino “Vallocchio” DOCG 2019
Produced in small quantities, Vallocchio clearly stands out from pure Brunello di Montalcino. Darker, deeper and more mystical, it shows notes of ripe blackberries and plums, complemented by exotic brown spices and a hint of lemon confit. Its texture is like velvet stretching across the palate, black-fruited and ripe, underpinned by minerals and cooling herbal notes. It is youthfully monolithic and dense, revealing its austere tannin core only towards the end, where notes of black tea, liquorice and a hint of cocoa emerge. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripe, intense, mineral-spicy bouquet with dark cherries, redcurrants, cassis and rose bushes. Juicy, elegant palate with fine-grained tannins, very intense, powerful and engaging on the palate, combining the ripeness with the freshness of the vintage." Weinwisser
"Aromas of raspberries and herbs are pleasing on the nose, the wood is well integrated; compact texture, robust tannins, lively acidity, pleasantly fruity finish." Vinum
"Bright ruby garnet colour. Initially restrained on the nose, opens up to pepper, dried kitchen herbs and wild berries, with plum in the background. Inviting on the palate, rich, juicy cherry fruit, savoury, still young in the mid-palate, nicely salty on the final." Falstaff
"Grown in the south-east of Montalcino, this wine is customarily ripe and powerful, but balances its components - a powerful body, generous alcohol and a rich structure. Noticeable oak nuances of sweet spice and vanilla are at the forefront, but a foundation of pure cherry and dark plum simmers at the core." Decanter
"The Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio 2019 is spicy and earthy in the glass, with a beguiling mix of ash stones, undergrowth and a hint of animal musk opening the stage and giving way to mentholated black cherries. It feels velvety and almost creamy on the palate, with a rich blend of ripe red and black fruits emphasised by salty minerals. Grippy tannins are added towards the end. The 2019 finishes structured and impressively long, with a hint of pine shavings and a hint of bitterness that lingers on and on. It should be stored in the cellar." Vinous
"Flavours of crushed berries and flowers with some bark and mushrooms. Medium to full body with medium, round tannins and fresh acidity. Nice balance and finesse." James Suckling
"The Fanti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio shows a pronounced savoury side with tobacco leaf, roasted chestnut shells, dark plums, honeycomb or honey roasted almonds. The tannins are dissolved, almost silky, and there is plenty of concentrated fruit to develop the rich texture. The alcohol content is 15%, but is well integrated into the dark fruitiness of the wine." Wine Advocate
"A selection from the five most historic vineyards, a mosaic of excellence. Black cherry on the nose, with hints of chinotto and lemon thyme. The mouthfeel is reminiscent of citrus fruits and black cherry, a hint of roasted nuts and ends with official notes." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “La Casa” DOCG 2018
Bright, intense ruby-garnet colour. Multi-layered aromas of sweet red fruits meld into rose petals, liquorice, spices and mint. Firm and polished on the palate, floral notes provide vibrancy, finely woven tannins and balanced acidity provide structure and stability, beautifully articulated and juicy on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A classic, with a seductive bouquet of berries and blossoms; a beautiful finish, invigorating acidity, the perfect blend of elegant juiciness and pithy substance that should definitely be enjoyed with food." Vinum
"The aroma already shows a lot of intensity with ripe cherries and plums, plus a bouquet of floral notes, violets, lavender, but also "powerful" notes such as iron, blood and cedar wood. Very dense on the palate, with present, still slightly restraining but mature tannins, sweet berry fruits, shows, as so often, origin and character with a lot of Sangiovese spice. Bravo!" Weinwisser
"Quite firm, moderately woody-spicy, slightly dried-vegetable aroma of mixed berries and a little cherry with a hint of leather, dried meat, tobacco and some black olives. Ripe, youthful, firm, juicy fruit, present, ripe, crumbly-sandy tannins and a delicate bite, light tobacco and pencil wood notes in the background, a hint of iced confectionery, roasted nuances and coffee, good substance and persistence, a certain depth, salt in the background, relatively accessible at first, but closes up a little with air, very good, juicy and spicy finish." Wein-Plus
"Brilliant ruby colour with a fine garnet sheen. Compact nose with notes of dark cherry, raspberry and tobacco, some beetroot in the background. Polished and finely meshed tannin structure, dark berry fruit, shows increasing pressure on the final, a highly elegant Brunello." Falstaff
"The Brunello di Montalcino 2018 Vigna La Casa was born in a beautiful vineyard with long vistas and warm sunsets. You can definitely taste the sweet spice and cinnamon from the barrel ageing, but the wine also presents a good amount of dark fruits and plums. It finishes with soft tannins and even a hint of oaky sweetness that emphasises its accessibility." Wine Advocate
"The Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa 2018 emerges from the glass with a beguiling blend of exotic spices, balsamic herbs, crushed ash stones and dried black cherries. It washes over the palate with a silky wave of ripe dark fruit, complemented by notes of liquorice and cocoa. Fine-grained tannins frame the finish, while residual acids keep the mouth watering and the plum notes fade under a hint of purple flowers. This is a radiant rendition of La Casa, a vineyard located on the crest of the Montosoli hill, opposite the town of Montalcino." Vinous
"The nose features floral aromas of roses, pomegranates, cherries and oranges, along with fresh undertones of soil and graphite. On the palate, the fruit sweetens, before a warm, spicy finish. Refined tannins create a silky, sensuous mouthfeel." Wine Enthusiast
"The other great classic from Montosoli cru, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary since it was first marketed. Redcurrants on the nose, a hint of wild sage and liquorice. It is dense and very persistent on the palate." Luca Gardini
"Leads with graphite and oak spice aromas, with flavours of plum, black cherry, eucalyptus and tobacco lurking underneath. Dense, with firm but polished tannins and guided by a lively acidity, it finishes with a long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Lots of blue and sweet berry fruit with heady rose and floral notes on the nose, plus hot chocolate, sandalwood, toffee and nutmeg. It is full-bodied with ripe, muscular tannins that are superbly integrated. Powerful, but with a transparency and clarity that lends it beauty. Long, graceful finish. Better from 2024." Brunello di Montalcino “Pian delle Vigne” DOCG 2018
Bright, intense ruby red colour. The appealing aroma is full of raspberry, red cherry, liquorice and a hint of musk. Tense on the palate with firm acidity and a good backbone, with wonderful spice and a fine, sweet silkiness. The complexity unfolds harmoniously in the long finish, with further maturity it will reach its full greatness, very serious and endearing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. On the nose, aromas of kitchen herbs, candied red berries, a hint of apricot, then floral notes of Christmas biscuits. Juicy, clear and balanced on the palate, with polished tannins, tightly woven, the fruit is beautifully emphasised, fun, balanced final." Falstaff
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is dark and balsamic in the glass, with rich notes of mocha, plum sauce, grilled herbs and crushed ash stone. Silky, almost creamy to the touch, it floods the palate with mocha-coloured red fruits and rum-soaked sultanas, complemented by a hint of tobacco towards the finish. The 2018 rejuvenates with a mentholated freshness and grippy tannins that initially engage the senses but then slowly release them, allowing hints of balsamic and exotic spice to linger. This unique vintage of Pian delle Vigne has great appeal, but also a structure that will carry it through medium-term ageing." Vinous
"Intense chocolate, hazelnut, blackcurrant, cherry and spiced plum on the nose with a hint of sage. It is full-bodied and rich in flavour, accompanied by firm but creamy tannins. Polished and well balanced." James Suckling
"A generous red wine with aromas and flavours of ripe cherries, raspberries, plums, iron and rosehips. Juicy and balanced, with a solid base of tannins underneath. A fine expression that is balanced and persistent on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The nose is a jungle adventure, as sanguine notes of meat and leather intertwine with a thicket of wild herbs, brambles and leaves, and a last hint of wild cherry. The palate teleports to the ice cream parlor on Main Street, serving artisanal, hand-churned mint chip, with a Luxardo cherry on top. A rare combination of extravagant and refreshing." Wine Enthusiast
"A wonderful version of one of the great classics of the appellation of origin, signed Antinori. Refined aromas of red mulberry on the nose, eucalyptus, notes of medicinal herbs and laurel. On the palate it is crisp and taut, with salty tannins and again fruity, medicinal herb nuances." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Paesaggio Inatteso” DOCG 2015
The Paesaggio Inatteso selection comes from Camigliano's 3.5-hectare vineyard "La Magia", which has mineral and calcareous soils. The 2015 edition presents itself more robust and intense than the classic Annata of the house. Bright ruby red. In the nose cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco aromas, on the palate taut, precise and full of personality. The tannins are soft and well integrated, making it an opulent, powerful and long-lasting pleasure even when young. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of crisp wild berries and violets, underscored by balsamic notes; precise texture with cut and length. Classically noble Sangiovese." Vinum
"Elegant, brilliant ruby garnet. Very fresh and fruity nose, of juicy, freshly plucked cherries, some raspberry and pomegranate. Round and smooth in the base and flow, shows also in the mouth a lot of present berry fruit, polished tannin." Falstaff
"Good dark red. Perfumed red cherry, raspberry and mint on the nose, plus hints of potpourri. Clean flavors of red fruits and spices show a restrained sweetness and a creamy mouthfeel on the long back end. Offers greater delineation and increasing pliancy with air." Vinous
"Enticing flavors of black cherry, plum, iron, leather, earth and tobacco mark this red. Dense tannins and bright acidity lay down structural support. Tips toward the dry side in the balance despite the persistent finish." Wine Spectator
"The purity and focus to this young Brunello is certainly impressive with crushed berries and flowers, as well as burnt orange peel on the nose. Full body. Firm and silky tannins with an intense backbone and focus. A seriously structured and balanced red. Drink after 2022." James Suckling
"This wine sees fruit from a three-hectare site (at 300 meters above sea level) with loamy sand soils. This is a very special wine with a unique set of aromas. It shows pronounced Mediterranean accents of rosemary, lavender and dried basil leaf. The wine's fruit profile is also front and center with wild berry and dried cassis. The mouthfeel is silky, lean and topped off by well integrated tannins." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna Nastagio” DOCG 2016 (BIO)
Nastagio (also called Nastasio) is the name of an ancient farmhouse of the Fattoria di Sant'Angelo, which was already recorded in the maps of Grand Duke Leopold. Brunello Nastagio is released six years after the harvest, as if it were a Riserva, and is the result of Col d'Orcia's many years of experience in developing and cultivating the Sangiovese vineyard. It is also the result of the many research chapters that Col d'Orcia has been carrying out with the University of Florence for more than twenty years. The ageing in tonneaux (500 Liters) oak barrels and then in the traditional large "botti" represent an ideal combination between tradition and modernity, while maintaining the essential aspect of longevity.
Like a Riserva, Nastagio is always released one year later. The terrific 2016 edition glows ruby in the glass and offers a rich bouquet of crushed black cherries with hints of brown spices and sage, enhanced by notes of white smoke, cedar and dried roses that give it finesse. It seems a little restrained at first, then seductively smooth as the sweet red fruits are quickly contrasted by lively acids and savoury spices, and the fine tannins slowly build towards the finish. The finish is long, structured yet balanced, evoking tart wild berries with hints of red liquorice and pretty flowers. It is already a lovely young wine, but it has over a decade of cellaring left and deserves its Riserva status. Perhaps it is the best Nastagio ever made. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, elegant ruby red. Expressive and clearly marked nose of ripe wild strawberries, blood oranges, rose hips and raspberry syrup, delicate floral notes round off the bouquet. Polished and finesse-rich on the palate, opens delicately creamy, then with great tension and fine salt, beautiful length." Falstaff
"Lustrous mid to deep ruby. Alluring, expressive sweet cherry fruit nose. Elegant, supple, mouth-filling fruit on the palate. Perfumed and very long but remains poised. Very polished, juicy and elegant and with fine, clinging tannins turning up on the finish. Great purity." Jancis Robinson
"Underbrush, toasted nut, grilled herb and eucalyptus aromas waft out of the glass. On the full-bodied palate, tightly knit, close-grained tannins support dried cherry, licorice, tobacco and mocha notes. Give it several more years to fully develop." Wine Enthusiast
"Rich aromas of ripe plums, crushed stones and rose petal follow through to a medium to full body, with medium chewy tannins and a polished and rather creamy texture at the finish. Give this three or four years to soften but already very attractive. Try after 2024." James Suckling
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Nastagio is youthfully coy, requiring time to release its dark fruits and savory exotic spices. This is velvety in feel yet not weighty at all, with ripe black fruits contrasting nervous acidity as autumnal spices come forward toward the close. Hints of vanilla, tobacco and sweet herbs linger through the long, structured finale. The 2016 finds a wonderful balance of fruit, structure and acidity, and it should be glorious in another five to ten years’ time." Vinous
"Always released one year later as if it were a Riserva (although it is not labeled as such), the Col d'Orcia 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Nastagio offers an increased level of clarity and purity that comes directly from the high quality of organically farmed fruit collected in this classic vintage. This growing site is characterized by rocky, limestone-rich soils. This is a broad and large expression of Sangiovese that wraps evenly over the palate, offering good textural weight and freshness along the way." Wine Advocate
"This red finds a nice equilibrium between ripe cherry and strawberry fruit and balsamic notes of sage, thyme and juniper. Features iron, leather and tobacco accents, which chime in as this plays out on the densely structured finish. Fine balance and length." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Cherry-accentuated bouquet with hints of violet flowers, clove, cigar box and a pleasant spicy sweetness. Dense and expressive on the palate, it opens vibrant and multi-layered and then reveals a wonderful load of black cherry, exotic spices and a fine salty vein. The perfectly balanced tannins always provide the necessary balance and give it a racy, very long finish with its extremely refined flavour components. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense fruity bouquet, ripe, rich cherry fruit, sweet tobacco, coffee beans, pomegranate juice. Meltingly dense on the palate, again with lots of pomegranate fruit and redcurrant, still very tannic, but has a lovely fruit to counter it. Needs to mature." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with a brightening rim. Nose of wild strawberries and rosehip, some sweet tobacco. Clear expression on the palate, juicy fruit and good tension, robust tannins, subtle vegetal hints and fine fruit on the final, high drinking flow." Falstaff
"With a profusion of Mediterranean herbs, forest shrub and sweet spice, there is lovely freshness and precision here. On the palate, vanilla and eucalyptus lace through woodland berries. Surprisingly, still a bit angular in frame yet it flows evenly with gravelly tannins and vivacious acidity. Youthful exuberance needs settling as warming alcohol is apparent." Decanter
"Cherry, plum, leather, earth and tomato leaf flavors highlight this broad, beefy red, with iron and sanguine accents creeping in as this winds down on the finish. Succulent and long, with a dusty grip in the end." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous interpretation of Northwest Montalcino terroir, with a darkly alluring bouquet of sage and rosemary giving way to crushed blackberries and stone dust. This opens with a lovely inner sweetness, perfectly balanced by crisp red fruits, mineral tones and a core of vibrant acidity. It finishes grippy and long yet surprisingly fresh, with a staining of primary concentration that lingers on and on." Vinous
"This is really fine on the palate with wonderfully integrated tannins that give tension and focus. It’s medium-bodied with lovely berry, cherry, cedar and spice. Peaches and flower stems, too. Creamy texture. Extremely long and vivid. Structured, but showing beautiful drinkability with wonderful balance and form." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
The fruit for this wine comes from four unique sites at different altitudes, all in different parts of the appellation. Le Ragnaies Brunello 2017 is a tour de force of Sangiovese that runs the entire continuum of Sangiovese. It begins auspiciously with wild cherry, later unfolding pressed blue flowers, spices and potting soil. In addition to these typical tones, there are also cherry, cassis and other classic Sangiovese aromas, followed by notes of dried mint and Mediterranean herbs in the impressive final. The lasting impression of this very special Brunello is its brilliance and purity, which inspire us every year, especially in the wines of Le Ragnaie. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Perfumed, cool nose that is not at all reminiscent of the torrid vintage 2017 was. Succulent and elegant on the palate but with obvious concentration and a firm layer of tannins, which make their mark, but the perfumed fruit keeps up on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"Bright ruby red. In the nose of cherries, raspberries, great integrated wood, fine spice. On the palate with pithy, red berry fruit, spans a fine arc, slightly salty final." Falstaff
"Le Ragnaie's 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a delicate and graceful expression that carefully unfolds to reveal wild berries, dried lilac and beautiful earthy tones. It belongs to that enviable school of Brunello that prioritises tradition, elegance and purity. These are the fundamental qualities of a great Sangiovese, but they are not achieved by all. The identity of Le Ragnaie is closely linked to these efforts. Notes of dried mint or Mediterranean herbs emerge on the finish." Wine Advocate

40 years Brunello di Montalcino by Casanova di Neri: Intense bouquet of sour cherry with nuances of chocolate, spices, liquorice and herbs. Energetic and highly vital on the palate. Wonderfully layered and seamlessly integrated dark fruit flavours open up with each sip, paired with a subtle vein of salt. Its tannins are like velvet and silk, the long, sweeping finish reveals that Sangiovese excellence we love so much at Casanova di Neri! SUPERIORE.DE
"Also convincing in this vintage: Scents of cherries, flowers and herbs; intense on the palate, robust texture, lots of character and juice, excellent length on complex notes of wild berries and spices. Pleases with its complexity and elegance." Vinum
"Dense, still closed bouquet with dark red and blue fruits reminiscent of plum and dark cherry, clearly tobacco and chocolate as well as balsamic nuances. Powerful, immensely compact, but materially melting palate with juicy contours, quite different from the warm 2017, much more grippy with a tightly gripping, densely meshed, but definitely sweet tannin. final grippy and animated with cranberry juice. Good future potential." Weinwisser
"Sparkling ruby-garnet with brightening rim. Appealing nose with notes of blood orange, cranberries and crisp cherries, Mediterranean herbs in the background. Shows very good tension on the palate, lots of juicy fruit, fine-meshed tannin, saline, a classic." Falstaff
"Lots of clean cherry and plum character on the nose and palate. Medium to full-bodied with dense, chewy tannins and a long finish. Nice freshness to the fruit, but give the tannins a year or two to settle. 40th anniversary bottling. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino keeps me returning to the glass to savour its pretty bouquet of dusty flowers, exotic spices and dried strawberries. The palate is like pure silk, seamless and supple, with a depth of dark red fruits and mineral tones that give a more tactile feel towards the finish. Balsamic herbs, cedar and tobacco resonate on the long and dramatic final, while fine tannins frame the experience with youthful poise. As is often the case, Casanova di Neri is a master at producing one of the region's most balanced and enjoyable Brunellos." Vinous
"The Casanova di Neri 2018 Brunello di Montalcino, with a special commemorative label celebrating its 40th anniversary (1978-2018), is lush and carefully concentrated to offer intensity and richness of structure. The bright fruit remains intact in this wine, with plenty of cherry and blackberry, an encouraging indication of the future cellar potential of this bottle. Many Brunellos from this vintage show faded or dried fruit, but fortunately not this wine. The acidity is mild and fades gently into the background, and the tannins are well integrated." Wine Advocate
"A bright, fruity style that offers aromas of cherries, strawberries, currants, white pepper and minerals. Accents of almonds and earth emerge on the finish. It stands out for its balance and pleasant length." Wine Spectator
"Another fundamental label from Casanova di Neri, a compendium of craftsmanship and territorial vocation. Black raspberry, with balsamic and officinal notes, like sage, on the nose, then liquorice nuances. The mouthfeel is iodine-juicy, with a return of medicinal herbs and liquorice." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Expressive and deep, the 2016 edition of San Filippo's Brunello di Montalcino presents itself. This is a beautiful, expressive wine that clearly occupies a special place on the opulent side of the Brunello spectrum. Of course, the astonishing quality of the fruit in 2016 gave the winemakers a terrific template with which to play superbly, but the result is much more than the sum of its parts: An almost impenetrable appearance in the glass, then on the nose dried fruits, cloves, nutmeg and toasted almonds, finely rounded off by dried rose petals. The mouthfeel is sweet and mellow, multi-layered and rich in finesse - a spectacular overall impression. With each sip, its power and muscles become tangible, but it never becomes monotonous or clumsy - on the contrary: it rushes confidently and with storm and urge into a furious final. SUPERIORE.DE
"The San Filippo 2016 Brunello di Montalcino offers a slightly exotic personality with smoked cedar, mahogany or teak followed by dark fruit, pressed blackberry and plum. The wine ages in large oak cask for two years. This is a robustly textured and muscular Brunello with full-bodied intensity that transcends both the bouquet and the mouthfeel. There's a lot going on, especially in terms of the wine's smokiness and spiciness, and there is good acidity and tannic structure to frame it all." Wine Advocate
"A serene and intensely structured Brunello with cherry, cedar, walnut and dry-earth aromas with some burnt-lemon undertones. Full-bodied, yet with very fine tannins that are extremely polished and beautiful. Goes on for minutes. A gorgeous young wine." James Suckling
"Plenty of balsamic aromas preview this red, settling into a core of macerated cherry and plum fruit, framed by juniper, thyme, Scotch broom, tar and iodine. Racy and harmonious, with a solid layer of tannins underneath." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Pian delle Vigne” DOCG 2019
A textbook Pian delle Vigne: a full bouquet of small red berries, brown spices, mocha and tobacco, before musky cherries and sage follow. Its cool, creamy texture introduces a dense wave of ripe red and black fruits, with salty minerals and fine-grained tannins providing grip. It will show its full beauty in a few years, but with sufficient aeration it is already a pleasure today! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red colour, bright. Fine hints of mint, ripe cherries and cranberries on the nose, fine balsamic tones on the finish. Great juiciness on the palate, clear fruit and well-integrated acidity, opens warm-hearted and full-bodied, fine salty finish." Falstaff
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a dark and brooding bouquet that blends plum sauce with dark chocolate and espresso beans. It combines velvety textures with ripe red and black fruits over a core of juicy acidity, while maintaining a lifted and energetic feel. The 2019 finishes structured and long, but still relatively fresh. Orange-flavoured blackberries and savoury herbs linger. I'm very impressed with the 2019's palate performance and tannin management, but I wish the winery would go for an equally fresh presentation on the nose. Still, fans of the Pian delle Vigne style will love the energy in this wine." Vinous
"Sweet black cherries with some blackberries as well as cherry blossom on the nose and palate. Medium to full-bodied with firm tannins and a chewy finish, but it will soften and come together nicely with bottle age." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
The fruit for this Brunello comes from a 14.4 hectare south-facing vineyard with loamy soils and lots of boulders. Complex, dark and earthy bouquet of ripe black cherries, enriched with notes of dried flowers, spices, crushed stones and a hint of animal musk. The palate reveals silky textures and pure Sangiovese fruit, underpinned by earthy tones supported by a network of minerals and tannins. The mouthfeel is always lean, tangy and soft, although you can feel the wine's full body and great appeal at all times. The final is polished and refined and lasts for several minutes. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant, bright ruby red colour. Great complexity on the nose, a potpourri of mint, blood orange, candied cherry and elegant spice. Juicy, polished and present on the palate, with great red berry fruit, expressive and clear, medium-bodied and elegant, drinks very well, repeatedly juicy on the final." Falstaff
"This red is hallmarked by flavors of plum, ripe cherry, wild herbs and iron. As this develops on the palate, the purity of the fruit emerges, along with tobacco and bergamot accents. Solidly built, with dusty tannins vying for attention with the fruit on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"Deep red berry fruit, sweet spices, cinnamon and cloves introduce the Brunello di Montalcino 2019. The Brunello di Montalcino is silky through and through, with a depth of red fruits and spices accompanied by juicy acidity. Liquorice and cloves combine with tart raspberry, while the 2019 finishes surprisingly fresh and lightly structured." Vinous
"The Mastrojanni 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a pretty bouquet with dark fruit and something exotic reminiscent of camphor ash, wood fire ash, garrigue and dried herbs. It is rich and evenly concentrated with fine chalk on the tannins and good phenolic ripeness. It is an excellent accompaniment to grilled game or French magret de canard. This pure local bottling does a great job and is ultimately more approachable than many of its competitors." Wine Advocate
"From vineyards between 180 and 400 metres, impeccable processing in the cellar for a wine of great freshness. Notes of wild strawberries on the nose, a hint of rose and star anise, with mentholated hints. On the palate, savoury tannins, mentholated and with a return of small fruits." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Pianrosso” DOCG 2018
Pianrosso comes from a south-western site of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone at an altitude of about 300 m with mainly Galestro soils. It opens the pleasure cinema with a rich, sparkling garnet red. The bouquet is seductive and deep with hints of dark and black fruits, sage, rose petals and violets. On the palate, there is a distinct salty-fresh minerality, which soon enters into a wonderful harmony with the fine-grained tannins and the perfectly layered fruit, leading the wine powerfully with optimal balance into a soft, hardly ending finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant wine that smells of berries, leather and tobacco; the tannins finely chiselled yet long-lasting, the acidity well integrated, the finish seductively long on notes of ripe forest fruits and balsamic notes. Of Burgundian elegance." Vinum
"The Cru wine is a selection of the best vines and is also one of the best Brunelli this year. The wines benefit from well-draining Galestro soils. Immensely complex and multi-faceted, it beguiles with redcurrants, fresh ethereal spicy notes reminiscent of Mediterranean herbs, plus mineral-salty hints as well as floral nuances (rose petals, violet blossoms). Finesse-rich palate with fresh, juicy fruit, very cleverly arranged, skilfully framed by fine polished, noble tannin, very elegant style, with ethereal spicy notes on the long final." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby garnet. Finely marked nose with notes of wild raspberries, ripe, small plums, some cardamom and rose petals. Round and supple on the attack, showing plenty of sweet melt, lots of raspberry, opens up on the back end with fine meshed, slightly grippy tannin, savoury, slight bitterness on the final." Falstaff
Both 2018 wines from Ciacci Piccolomini offer a "deliciousness" of flavour and a true Umami quality, but the Pianrosso selection offers greater Brunello satisfaction. This not quite 12 hectare, iron-rich marl vineyard has had just enough warmth to make its southern origins clear. It has more shape, form and depth that give it staying power. Iron and salty minerals emerge against a backdrop of persimmon and hibiscus, finishing with Mediterranean herbs. The soft, sandy tannins are smooth and yielding, giving the wine a complex texture and immediate drinkability." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso opens in the glass with dark aromas of crushed plums and black cherries, accompanied by notes of rosemary, spiced citrus peel and a hint of cocoa. This is a particularly racy style for Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona, with cool mineral tones and zesty acidity driving the ripe berry fruit and hints of sour citrus across the palate. Although structured, it finishes with tremendous energy and freshness, leaving a bitter hint of balsamic spice in the mouth. The 2018 may not have the power often associated with Pianrosso, but it impresses with its lively and spicy character." Vinous
"A complex red wine with dark, spicy notes of liquorice, eucalyptus and tobacco that combine with cherry and berry flavours. Juicy, with a slightly viscous texture, with wild herb and iron elements creeping in on the long finish. Power meets grace." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino produces beautiful results if you choose to drink it now, or if you cellar it a little longer. It offers immediate intensity and complexity with a red and purple berry fruit attack that follows tarry spices, campfire ash, liquorice and rusty nails. These savoy tones are balanced with the wine's elegant, medium-weight finish. And the tannins are seamlessly integrated. The winemaking team has done a good job in a difficult vintage." Wine Advocate
"This wine is so complex, with citrus and herbal notes lifting the blue and red berry fruits. Thyme, sage and lavender, but also mocha and clove. Full-bodied, full of depth and intensity, with firm but seamless tannins. Develops into espresso. Balanced, powerful and very long. Taste after 2025." James Suckling
"A certainty of appellation for the Bianchini family vineyard, just a few steps from Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Very multi-faceted nose, redcurrant, then marjoram and iodine touches, like Taggiasche olives. The sip is juicy, with a fruity-officinal finish and very long reverberation." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Medium, radiant ruby red. Complex nose of sweet and cedar wood, paired with Mediterranean maquis and delicate sweet cherry. In the mouth, balsamic notes, very finely woven tannins and a wonderful complexity that envelops the juicy fruit core and gives the wine an impressive depth and length. The elegance is also very impressive and will certainly increase with further maturity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep aromas of cherries and flowers; compact construction, the tannins racy and well integrated, beautiful melt and polish and of great elegance." Vinum
"Dense spicy bouquet, tart fruit and spice on the palate; elegant, compact style with racy flow, very classic, noticeable tannin and grip, nice freshness and ethereality. Needs time." Weinwisser
"Brilliant medium ruby red. A seductive richness on the nose, combined with cool red fruits and notes of iron and black pepper. The spicy note on the finish adds depth to the fresh red fruit, accompanied by a long vein of persistent grainy tannins. Super-elegant." Jancis Robinson
"Castello Romitorio's classic Brunello, which comes from the estate's highest plots - between 350 and 450 metres - embodies the vintage's grace without sacrificing depth or flavour. The aromas are ethereal at first, then join the scents of rosehip, liquorice root and juniper. The sweetness of the pure cherry in the mouth is balanced by a juicy acidity and powdery tannins. The wine has a sneaky substance and a long-lasting presence. The Filo di Seta may have more reserves for ageing, but I can't help but be completely charmed (for the price) by the sheer elegance of this wine." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino impresses with a blend of dried citrus peel, cedar chips, floral scrub, black cherry and Tuscan dust. It is soft, even buoyant, with a depth of velvety, textured red and blue fruits and sweet, liquid purple tones colouring the palate. The 2018 finishes fresh and long with notes of wild blueberries and a touch of balsamic spice, framed by a layer of fine tannin. This is a complete success for the vintage." Vinous
"I like the dried purple undertones of the red and blue fruits, along with some walnut shell and olive. There is so much flavour here, packed into a compact core framed by silky, firm tannins. Dense and concentrated. Try it after 2024." James Suckling
"The Castello Romitorio 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows crisp and tart fruit with cherry, cassis and wild plum. This medium-bodied wine offers plenty of freshness and brightness in a vintage that was challenging for many. This expression is unique thanks to the inner energy on display; the red fruits are prominent and the wine's balanced acidity rounds it all out." Wine Advocate
"A graceful red characterised by cherry, strawberry, rose, minerals and Mediterranean herbs. Supple and juicy, but firm, with a mineral finish. Lively and long." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015
Our insider tip for years - only 9,000 bottles are coming onto the world market this year from the 2015 vintage! What hardly anyone knows: Enrica and Ettore learned how to make wine from none other than Giancarlo Pacenti.
The grapes for this vinophile masterpiece come from a small vineyard in Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Deep, full-bodied expression with warm aromatic layers that give an impressive intensity to the bouquet of dark plum, blackberry, dried cherry, liquorice, tar, black truffle and leather. Then on the palate a beguiling extract sweetness, again very complex and resonant, in silent harmony with the characteristics of the exceptional terroir. The 36 months very slow aging in large oak barrels sort for a wonderful harmony and a very good aging potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ample and round, sporting cherry, plum, earth and saline flavors. Well-mannered tannins are integrated, lending an overall impression of freshness. Fine length. Best from 2023 through 2040." Wine Spectator
"Deep red-ruby. Almost hypnotic aromas of ripe red cherry, black cherry-cola, incense, violet, dried rose and minerals. Structured and sweet red and darker fruit flavors are graceful and finely etched, picking up savory spice and floral elements with aeration. Perhaps a touch less multifaceted than some other Brunellos from this estate, but brimming with early appeal and enough balance to easily last another fifteen to twenty years in a good cellar." Vinous
"Here's an elegant and classic expression of the vintage. The Sesta di Sopra 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows solid balance with its dark fruit flavors offset by tart cherry and fresh menthol. The oak tones are nicely tucked in and integrated, offering substance that builds the wine's structure but does not take away from its elegance. Balanced acidity adds a pretty touch to the mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent. Drink from 2025." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “La Pieve” DOCG 2018
Clear, relatively cool, polished and deep nose with fine berry tones, a little dry herbs, pepper, hints of tobacco, ash and floral nuances. Taut, tart, fresh and precise fruit with noticeable acidity and present, fine tannins. Dense and persistent on the palate, smoky traces, some dry herbs, salt in the background, very good depth. For all its power, elegant style with a hint of bitter chocolate, very good, taut, tangy finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine has aromas of cherry pits, plums, nutmeg, cedar and some balsamic. It is full-bodied with tangy acidity and spicy, fleshy layers of fruit accompanied by sinewy tannins. A little linear. Powerful finish." James Suckling
"The La Gerla 2018 Brunello di Montalcino La Pieve also shows a thicker and more concentrated side, similar to the Brunello annata. I would argue that this density even goes a step further, with more texture and weight perceived on the palate. This powerful, full-bodied approach is accompanied by ripe cherries, blackberries, smoked spices and leather. There is a hint of sour fruit on the finish." Wine Advocate
"Deep and savoury, this red shows aromas of black cherry, blackberry, eucalyptus, rosemary, iron and earth. With assertive tannins, this finishes with a chewy, compact feel." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino La Pieve exudes ripe strawberry and blueberry fruit in the glass, accompanied by crushed stone and violet pastilles. It is silky-soft and supple, with a depth of ripe red and black berries supported by a core of vibrant acidity. The final is of great depth and length, along with classic tannins that slowly fade lavender-scented plums and a hint of cocoa. The 2018 La Pieve is a real charmer." Vinous
"Raw material of great crispness for this new jewel, result of Sergio Rossi's vision. Notes of red plums on the nose, hints of undergrowth and wild mint, rhubarb on the finish. The mouthfeel is juicy and taut, with succulent tannins, mentholated notes return on the finish." Luca Gardini
"The sanguine, umami nose is a well-laid charcuterie board of carpaccio, Parmesan, dried tomatoes, olives and a cup of pomegranate seeds, with a dusting of oregano and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The palate turns sweeter and juicier with dried fruit, but the tomatoes and herbs linger through a sophisticated, bitter finish." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Classic and well-proportioned Brunello di Montalcino with a generous bouquet of red berries, cherries and spices that contrast perfectly. Lean and firm with ethereal hints and beautiful spice on the palate, the harmonious flavour moves towards a lingering finish with great finesse. SUPERIORE.DE
"While this wine contains a small amount of fruit from the estate's La Lucère vineyard, it is mainly made from a lower, north and north-east facing parcel in the immediate vicinity of the winery. An abundance of sweet herbs - from sage to lavender - gives way to forest scrub and flint. On the palate, the wine is not yet as pronounced as on the nose, although a core of concentrated red cherry lies in wait. The tannins are strong and somewhat woody, but they smooth out on the finish. The 2018 should develop well after another year in bottle." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is bright and beautiful on the palate with red and purple fruits. It shows varietal acidity with a medium-bodied texture. The mouthfeel is not particularly long, but it is fresh and the tannins are polished." Wine Advocate
"This delicate red wine is saturated with aromas and flavours of raspberries, cherries, liquorice, rose hips and eucalyptus. Powerful and complex, with fine balance, plump tannins and a lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Intensity and great freshness also in San Filippo's basic Brunello. Nose with notes of black cherry, then touches of black pepper and bay leaves. Savoury on the palate, with officinal-fruity return and spicy notes. Persistence and deep finish." Luca Gardini
"Intense, spicy and flavourful with aromas of currants, sage, dried oranges, mint and bark. Full-bodied with supple and well-integrated tannins. A subtle herbal note gives it freshness. Lots of character. Drinkable from 2024." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Neris Brunello 2019 is a classic wine with pleasant contrasts and a focussed structure. Ripe dark fruit and autumnal spices contrast with savoury herbs and a hint of animal musk. The palate is silky, cool and airy, with a noticeable inner sweetness in the polished cherry and berry flavours, then veers more towards inner earth and minerals, showing beautifully articulated and grippy tannins. Streamlined and compact in the mouth with a lively, racy finish and great potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense, delicately reductive bouquet that beguiles with plenty of typical cherry and pomegranate fruit as well as blue fruits such as plums, followed by tobacco and dark gianduja chocolate as well as balsamic nuances. Elegant, incredibly full-bodied palate with juicy contours and grippy, yet sweet tannins. A grippy, animating, long final with cranberry juice, orange peel and delicately reductive, savoury notes. Good potential." Weinwisser
"Powerful ruby colour with a light garnet rim. Very appealing, open nose, with notes of wild raspberry and blackberry, plus fresh tobacco and a fine spicy note. Polished and fine on the attack and on the palate, showing lots of juicy, dark fruit paired with dense tannins, spans a wide arc, very good drinking flow." Falstaff
"Redcurrants and lavender, followed by layers of dried herbs and spices. Full-bodied and lush on the palate with chewy tannins. Persistent long finish with citrus flavours. Still young, healthy and concentrated. Very attractive now and in the future." James Suckling
"The core of ripe cherry fruit is complemented by woody, mushroomy, ferrous, spicy and savoury flavours in this intense red, with a long, resonant aftertaste. Although balanced, it could use a few more years to reach its sweet spot." Wine Spectator
"The Casanova di Neri 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows dense fruit tissue with hints of undergrowth, pressed rose, light cherry, tobacco and balanced oak spice. This wine definitely has a special furrow. It offers a ripe, round texture with good acidity, followed by fine, chalky tannins. This is an impressive quality. In fact, this is one of the best village Brunellos that Giacomo Neri and his family have produced to date." Wine Advocate
"A great classic of the house, a work of impeccable finesse between land and cellar for an emblematic product. On the nose, raspberry, a hint of white pepper, a touch of laurel and peony, then nuances of sweet liquorice. Salty and juicy in the mouth, with raspberry and floral notes." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Poggio San Polo Brunello is a selection of the best grapes from the estate's various vineyard sites. It opens very engagingly with dark fruit, including plenty of black cherry and dark plum, optimally rounded off by a fine balsamic herbal spice and notes of white pepper. The palate has an almost perfect texture, a suppleness and silkiness that is refreshed and carried by a well-proportioned, refined Sangiovese acidity. Dark berry flavours, long, deep and with a very remarkable, slightly mineral final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant ruby garnet colour. Fragrant nose of Amarena cherry and raspberry syrup, reminiscent of marjoram and cocoa butter in the aftertaste. Grippy and powerful on the palate, grippy, fine-grained tannins, clear berry fruit, accompanied by sweet tobacco, vibrant, subtly bitter in the lingering final. Best decanted before drinking." Falstaff
"Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Balsamic nose with a suggestion of fresh mint but still very closed on the fruit. Supple cherry fruit with tangy acidity and structuring, chewy tannins. Well balanced and not ready yet." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino excites the senses with an inviting bouquet that mixes vivid black cherries with spiced oranges, sweet roses and cedar. It’s silky-smooth yet energetic with a wave of mineral-tinged red berry fruits that slowly saturate. A coating of fine tannins coats the palate as this finishes classically structured, spicy and long, promising many years of positive development." Vinous
"The cherries come through on the nose, as does the wood. Some Spanish cedar, too. Medium body. Solid core of fruit and fine tannins at the end. From organically grown grapes. Comes across balanced at this stage, but will be even better in three or so years." James Suckling
"Bright with raspberry, strawberry, boysenberry and white pepper flavors, this red also shows notes of peony and a hint of wild herbs, with tremendous balance and a stony aftertaste, Graceful, charming and ready to enjoy, yet there's no rush." Wine Spectator

"Bright ruby red colour with delicate garnet-red rim highlights. Alternating cherry fruit and cigar box on the nose. Harmonious and fresh on the palate, lively acidity, well-integrated tannins, lots of marzipan on the finish, lingers for a remarkably long time." Falstaff
"San Polo is located on the south-eastern flank of Montalcino. Monte Amiata rises above the estate and provides a constant breeze that keeps the humidity low. The 16 hectares are divided into eight plots and are blended depending on the vintage. The brick-coloured 2018 opens with aromas of charcoal, then is joined by smoky wild berries, dried orange peel and a hint of juniper. The core is richly concentrated without being overbearing, while supple tannins fill the mouth with an assertive, balanced structure. It finishes with an earthy hint of liquorice root." Decanter
"Shows earthy, rustic aromas that hint at a slight reduction, giving way to flavours of plum, cherry, rose, juniper, eucalyptus and iron. The powerful tannins characterise the compact finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino, a certified organic wine, shows a savoury character that accompanies the wine from start to finish on the palate. There is a core of black fruit, but the real highlight is the spicy contour of dark chestnut shells, acacia honey, ploughed earth and roasted rosemary that fills the balloon of the glass. This Brunello finishes on an acidic note and shows tannins that could use a few more years to soften. This is a wine of medium concentration." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of sour plums, cherry stones, bark and iodine, with some dried herbs. So fresh, tangy and flavourful, with bright berry fruit and savoury moss notes. Fine and integrated tannins. Medium body. Everything is about balance." James Suckling
"The mainly earthy, sanguine nose is enlivened by the slightly tart sweetness of the plums. This pleasant dynamic continues on the palate before finally giving way to a chocolaty, coffee-like finish. Firm but supple tannins provide structure, while the acidity brings warmth." Wine Enthusiast
"South-east of the denomination, a project of the Allegrini family, still relatively young but at the highest quality level, like this 2018. Pomegranate on the nose, with a hint of wild mint and juniper. Crisp on the palate, with salty tannins and a fruity-menthol finish." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2016 (BIO)
The grapes for Fornacinas Riserva come from a small 5 hectare plot and the result offers a wonderfully firm structure with plenty of warmth and harmony. On the palate, it convinces with textural richness and wonderful secondary aromas that come with three years of oak ageing. The initially crisp tannins will stand another year or two of bottle ageing to become softer and more relaxed. A top-year classic with a wonderfully intense and long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is very fine-tannined and silky with cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. It’s medium-to full-bodied with lots of berry, earth, walnut and dried-flower character at the end. From organically grown grapes. Very attractive now, better in a few years." James Suckling
"Traditional stone farmhouses in Tuscany always have a bread oven, or "forno" in Italian, somewhere near the entrance of the home. That wood-burning oven is a symbol of family warmth, inclusiveness and home. I'd like to think that this is the spirit with which Fornacina (the "little oven") is named. The estate's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (a certified-organic wine) is a bottle I happily recommend to those looking for under-the-radar names in Montalcino. I love the delicate and bright nature of this wine and the subtle manner in which the wine's acidity and lean-bodied texture enlivens the palate." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Medium ruby red with orange reflections. On the nose, beautiful cherry, raspberry and floral notes, plus some espresso and spice notes. On the palate, a supple texture, exciting depth and multi-layered fruit notes. It presents itself long and medium-weight, its elegance and the focused overall picture make it one of the best of the vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas recalling underbrush, crushed botanical herbs, wild rose and forest berries waft out of the glass. Linear and medium-bodied, the elegant palate offers dried cherry, licorice and ground clove set against fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"This is firm and underscored by a mineral streak, displaying strawberry, cherry, earth, spice and tobacco flavors. Shows harmony and should really come together in 2-3 years. Fine length." Wine Spectator
"Poggio Antico is another one of those Montalcino estates that you will forever remember if you've been lucky enough to visit. The vineyards enjoy unobstructed views all the way to the Tyrrhenian Sea (I think this is the only place in the appellation where you can see the water on a clear day). Fruit for the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is sourced from the I Poggi parcel with thin galestro and alberese soils. There is a lot of fresh fruit here, and the tannins are quite soft and supple." Wine Advocate
"A thoroughly drinkable and refined 2017 Brunello with pure cherry, berry and floral character with hints of cedar. It’s full-bodied yet has good tension and focus with a long and beautiful finish." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Katia and Luigi's Brunello di Montalcino opens with dark fruits, cherries, forest herbs and dried plums. This is accompanied by a fine fruity sweetness, framed by notes of tar, smoke and exotic spices. The dark and ripe intensity of the fruit is closely interwoven with the flavours of oak and the stately proportions of the wine. The long and well-structured finish is characterised by liquorice and mint, flanked by a layer of fine tannins. What we particularly like about this Brunello is that it is already full of finesse and class and is already showing its beauty at a young age. SUPERIORE.DE
"Concentrated, wide-ranging ripe bouquet, delicately liqueur-like top note, but less invasive than usual, ripe cherries, blueberries, tobacco, chocolate, very complex and engaging. Juicy, concentrated and at the same time polished palate, powerful, polished fullness, concentrated final." Weinwisser
"Dark ruby red with a brick-coloured rim. Deep, seductive cherry nose with exotic spice notes. Powerful and long with juicy cherry fruit that is just beginning to unfold and fine-grained, enveloping tannins. Very balanced, but still needs to settle, so wait and see." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino smells of a dusty mix of dried flowers and strawberries underscored by lemon oil. It is racy and supple with cooling acidity and vibrant ripe wild berries lifted by orange and cedar spice. The acidity asserts itself and maintains an amazing freshness despite the grippy tannins that resonate throughout. The 2019 finishes long and colourful with a pretty hint of violet blossom that lingers for a long time. San Polino continues to raise the bar; this wine is wonderful." Vinous
"From the San Polino vineyards in the north-east on loamy clay soils. This exuberantly youthful and nascent 2019 is redolent of violets and oily balsamic herbs. It makes a medium-bodied impression - yet is packed with blackberry fruit. A hint of orange peel is emphasised by a zesty acidity. And when the wine opens up, spicy, steely depths emerge. Promising, but still needs to come together. Firm, loamy tannins weigh down the flavour on the finish." Decanter
"Intense aromas of black cherries, black truffle, orange peel and Indian spices. The palate is full yet restrained, with very fine tannins that penetrate the wine linearly and deeply. Lovely texture. Restrained on the finish. A true beauty." James Suckling
