There are vintages that you can already feel in the vineyard. 2021 was one of them: April frosts reduced the harvest volumes by up to a third; what remained ripened slowly and completely under a long, hot, dry summer. No rain in September, no rush during the harvest – a luxury that this vintage afforded and that is rare in Montalcino. For Giancarlo Pacenti and his northern vineyards of Pelagrilli, this meant ideal conditions for a Brunello of classic elegance.

In the glass, the 2021 Pelagrilli speaks a different language than its predecessor. Bright ruby red in colour. Fresh cherry, orange blossom, cedar and a fine hint of herbs on the nose – fragrant, precise, with a transparency reminiscent of great vintages of the past. The flavour is taut and linear, with fine-grained, firm tannins that carry the wine and demand time. The acidity is impeccably embedded, the final long and with a mineral coolness. A Brunello that is already enchanting today and will say even more in twenty years' time. SUPERIORE.DE
