Barbaresco Ovello Riserva DOCG 2017
The site Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is, as always, one of the outstanding wines of this series. It shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly riper profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into the volatile Nebbiolo aromas, focusing on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg, and firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity adds tension and balance. Looking at the timeline of Riserva wines, this wine reaches the magical threshold where Nebbiolo begins to unfold its unique aromatic appeal and mystique ... SUPERIORE.DE
"Open-hearted and with a beautiful play of fruit, cherry, red berries; animating drinking flow with an earthy and delicately balsamic note, plus good inner density and sturdy tannin, radiates the warmth of the year and is round to the end." Weinwisser
"Quite a tight nose but with plenty of minerals and, with aeration, a lift of ripe sour cherry. Juicy cherry on the palate with bags of chewy tannins underneath the fruit. Very long, juicy and animating. Has potential." Jancis Robinson
"A tight and pretty Barbaresco with a solid depth of fruit that shows ripe strawberry and terracotta character. Tannins spread across the palate in a chunky way like thick velvet. Juicy and thick at the end." James Suckling
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a heady, explosive wine. I don't think I have ever tasted an Ovello from the Produttori with this much heft. The strong mineral and saline accents typical of this site are present, but they are matched pound for pound by notable mid-palate richness and intensity in its fruit. The 2017 is a brooding powerhouse that needs time to unwind." Vinous
"Taut and sinewy, boasting cherry, black currant, grass, iron and tar notes. Powerful tannins drive the finish, which is compact for now. In the end, this is lightly astringent, but has plenty of drive and should find equilibrium with time." Wine Spectator
"One of the bigger production in the Produttori del Barbaresco's portfolio is the 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello. All of the Riservas in this vintage are characterized by especially exuberant and bold aromas, and this bottle is a prime example. Cassis, wild cherry, tobacco, rusty nail and licorice build intensity. The wine is tapered and silky in texture, but it also offers a good amount of power to carry it through the aging process." The Barbaresco Montefico 2017 is a jewel of a wine. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, crushed rocks, rose petals and lavender are all finely cut. As always, the Montefico is taut and angular in style. Its sense of transparency is simply beguiling. Sage, mint and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the nuances that linger. Montefico is a Barbaresco for lovers of tighter red wines, whom it will delight. It combines the fruitiness of the Montestefano with the verve of the Ovello. SUPERIORE.DE
"Concentrated mid ruby with bricky rim. Ripe, sweet cherry fruit with lift and savoury spicy damson hints. Full succulent cherry fruit that is still compact and with rich chewy tannins. Long and multilayered. This has a future, but I would happily drink this now." Jancis Robinson
"Marked by plum and menthol, this also has elements of iron, tar and tobacco. Muscular and brooding, with a strong grip of tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Barbaresco Montefico is one of the stand-outs in this range. It shows the piercing tannins typical of this site, and yet has more than enough fruit to balance those tannins, certainly moreso than wines like the Rabajà. This exposed site benefits from cooling winds from the north, clearly a benefit in 2017. Even in the early going, the balance here is terrific. In 2017, the Montefico is one of the clear stand outs in the range." Vinous
"The Produttori del Barbaresco 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is especially broad and thick in texture. It feels generous to the senses, wrapping thickly over the palate with a pretty mix of firm tannins and soft fruit fiber. These elements help to increase both the volume and the persistence of this classic wine. There is some dryness on the finish and you also taste crushed mineral and stone." Wine Advocate

Bright and radiant, with a lot of Nebbiolo character, it is a successful interpretation of the terroir and shows the great class of the winery. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint, aniseed and white pepper on the nose. Medium-bodied and graceful on the palate with a good balance of flavour, acidity and structure. With further bottle ageing, it looks set for a great development. SUPERIORE.DE
"A slightly floral nose of more red than black berries with fresh tomato tones, hints of liquorice, barrel wood notes, tar and a hint of tobacco. Tart, still undeveloped fruit, nutty, slightly smoky and hints of cocoa-spicy notes, some bite and youthful, yet fine tannins, persistent on the palate, a little tar and tobacco in the background, herbal nuances, hints of coffee, very good, relatively juicy finish with dark, delicately bitter-chocolatey spice. Still needs a little time." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby red with a delicately brightening rim and sparkling centre. Inviting nose, smoky and stony, delicate raspberry and some dried rose petal, black tea. Savoury on the palate, with very grippy, youthful tannins and lovely salt, always comes back juicy, still a little young, already drinking well." Falstaff
"A graceful, well-balanced red with a solid construction supporting aromas and flavours of cherry, strawberry, rose and graphite. A hint of tar and white pepper is evident on the finish." Wine Spectator
"A mixture of red berries, including raspberry and currant, combined with allspice and earth-driven spices. The wine is pretty and lifted, with dark cherry flavors on the palate. Superfine tannins give the wine an elegant structure that highlights the chalky mineral notes, leather and tobacco." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2019 Barbaresco Pio Cesare shows a beautiful ruby red colour that goes well with the bright aromas of cassis, pomegranate, liquorice and grilled herbs that emerge from the bouquet. This Barbaresco is lean and silky in texture, and it is already drinking very well." Wine Advocate
"This is a very typical Barbaresco, with a solid core of fruit. Lots of strawberries, cedar wood and chewy tannins. Full and structured. Excellent length, with the tannins coming through at the end. This wine needs at least four or five years of bottle ageing. Try it after 2027." James Suckling

Barbaresco “Fausoni” DOCG 2015
Translucent purple with a fresh, garnet red edge. The bouquet is a potpourri of dried fruits, dark chocolate and a delicate nougat note. Opened on the palate, it is fruity and velvety and with its straight lines and wonderfully integrated acidity it will be a pleasure for many years to come. SUPERIORE.DE
"Broad-shouldered, with cherry, loam and licorice notes, this red boasts well-appointed tannins and bright acidity. Complex and chewy on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"Showing elegance and grace starting with the first sip, the 2015 Barbaresco Fausoni also reveals power and integration. You get both sides of the spectrum with this wine: silk and muscle. The bouquet emits aromas of pressed blue flower, rose hip, dried red currant, spice and fine licorice. The finish is compact and long in persistence." Wine Advocate
"Deep, plum and floral nose, then a ripe and generous palate with considerable tannic power, but also very good balance. The dry, quite minerally finish is long and intense." James Suckling
"Just bottled, the 2015 Barbaresco Fausoni possesses a level of volume and intensity to a degree I have not seen in this wine before. Sweet, perfumed and super-inviting, the 2015 is going to be nearly impossible to resist in its youth. Virtually seamless in the glass, but with considerable supporting structure, the 2015 captures all the sexiness of the year. The interplay between the radiance of the vintage and the more energetic, vibrant qualities that are typical of this site is compelling. Hard candy, rose petal, orange zest, mint and spice infuse the creamy, resonant finish." Antonio Galloni

Barbaresco “Cottà" DOCG 2018
Bright garnet red with a copper-coloured rim. Fine olfactory cinema of red fruits and sea buckthorn. In addition, forest earth paired with a hint of tobacco and bitter almond. In the glass still young, initially loud tannins, with some air then softer tones and a powerful, lasting final. An elegant, aristocratic wine that leaves a lasting impression not only on the first glass. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange reflections. Concentrated and ripe cherry with hints of cinnamon and Moroccan leather. Generous and concentrated palate with plenty of ripe acidity and very attractive grainy, long and animating tannins." Jancis Robinson
"A mix of ripe plum, black cherry, soy, eucalyptus and iron flavors plumb the depths of this dense red, which is vibrant and balanced, with ironclad tannins exerting influence on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Cottá is, as is often the case, one of the more striking wines in the range. It has that extra richness in the mid-palate that is missing from some of the wines in this vintage. The fruit profile leans towards the exotic end of the spectrum. Sweet red cherry, red plum, blood orange, mint, spice cake, kirsch and rose petals fill out the layers, adding a racy flair that is very appealing." Vinous
"The 2018 Barbaresco Cottá is bright and cheerful, with tart cherry and floral aromas that rise quickly and deliberately. The wine's focused approach is exactly what sets it apart. It offers a direct delivery of wild berry fruit, honed and brought into focus by minerals, wild rose and liquorice. With a run of 7,000 bottles, the Cottá vineyard in the village of Neive is truly special." Wine Advocate

"Plum, cherry, eucalyptus, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors combine in this fluid yet firmly structured red, which is intense, lingering with a long aftertaste that echoes the savory elements." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Fausoni with fruit from Neive is another great wine from Sottimano. This expression is polished and glossy, showing tremendous purity for all the senses. Thanks to the graceful aromas of cassis, dried raspberries and plums, you can get excited about this bottle. These wines from the village of Neive are showing excellent results in this cooler 2018 vintage." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barbaresco Fausoni is another super classic in this range from Sottimano. Floral, spicy and orange peel accents add brightness to this ethereal, very expressive Barbaresco. The 2018 needs a few more years in bottle to develop, but it's already beautiful. This classically austere Barbaresco will appeal most to harvestwith a traditionally oriented palate." Vinous

Barbaresco “Basarin” DOCG 2018
Do you know the small vineyard Basarin near Neive? A bright ruby garnet awaits you and a wine from a particularly beautiful vintage: on the nose, a cornucopia of aromas of wild sour cherry, herbs, some liquorice and tobacco. Firm and very clearly structured on the palate, muscular and yet with an elegance that never loses control due to its power. Basarin is a highly energetic and precise Nebbiolo that reveals its complexity only with some patience and aeration. The neighbouring terroir Neive shows itself with distinguished elegance and marries harmoniously with the volume and weight typical of the site - and in a depth that only vines over 50 years old can produce. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Captivating nose of deep perfumed cherry fruit with hints of white pepper and a minty cardamom hint. Supple, concentrated palate with firm but ripe tannins. Long and multi-layered and with plenty of future." Jancis Robinson
"Steeped plum, cherry, eucalyptus, tar and mineral flavors are backed by beefy tannins in this streamlined red. A core of ripe fruit plies the middle, before the tannins exert their grip on the finish. Muscular, yet balanced and long." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Basarin is a very pretty, classy wine. Dark red cherry, pomegranate, flowers and licorice notes are all nicely lifted. An elegant, supple wine, the Basarin will drink well with minimal cellaring. The purity of the fruit is striking. Readers will find a wine of total elegance and class. This is a stellar showing." Vinous
"Balsamic aromas of camphor mingle with earthy whiffs of forest floor, new leather, cedar and wild berries on this elegant, full-bodied red. The tight, linear palate is delicious and loaded with personality, delivering ripe Morello cherry, mocha, licorice and an earthy note of truffle framed in firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well-balanced." Wine Enthusiast
"The Sottimano 2018 Barbaresco Basarin shows tart cherry fruit and plum backed by lovely layers of crushed mineral, iron ore, spice and crushed flowers. The wine reveals an inner brightness or tartness that tastes terrific next the more nuanced character of the Nebbiolo grape. Basarin shows power and elegance in equal measure, and that is never an easy feat for any winemaker to accomplish. Production is limited to 5,500 bottles." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco “Pajoré" DOCG 2017
Here comes the most opulent and friendly Barbaresco of Sottimano's overall highly impressive line-up of single vineyards. Bright garnet red with a copper rim. Lavish scent of black fruits, orange peel, rounded off with a fine nutty note. Fine-grained tannin even at a young age coats the firm structure and reinforces the easily recognisable highly individual character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brightening, medium dense garnet red. Very finely marked nose with rich notes of fresh dark cherries, clear and bright, some anchovy and caper leaves behind. Gripping and gripping on the palate, opens with present, dense tannin, builds nicely, juicy on the final." Falstaff
"Fresh and light on its feet, this cherry- and strawberry-flavored red is accented by floral, tobacco and savory notes. Its tannins are refined, providing a firm layer of support. Shows excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"This wine, whose fruit comes from Treiso, is often characterised by its immediate and accessible personality, with silky tannins and delicate floral aromas. The Sottimano family cultivates five different vineyard sites in the appellation. The 2017 Barbaresco Pajoré is a little more restrained in this vintage, with a wide range of earthy, wild fruit and liquorice aromas. This expression offers a lower threshold for aromatic highlights. However, the palate is more polished and constructed in this vintage, with firm, freestanding tannins providing lift." Wine Advocate
"Violets, new leather, truffle and spiced plum are just some of the aromas you will find in this captivating red wine. Full-bodied and with youthful tension, the linear palate offers ripe sour cherry, spiced cranberry, star anise and tobacco, framed by tight, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2023-2030." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco “Pajoré" DOCG 2018
The Sottimano winery has five vineyard sites, with the Pajorè site near Treiso having the poorest soils of all. These wines are therefore more elegant and ripe. The current 2018 vintage is a super-classic, explosive wine, with tremendous depth and character. Although it has a lot of breadth and texture, it remains light on its feet. Lavender, mint, liquorice and purple berry fruit are beguiling and wonderfully vibrant in the glass. Pajorè is a spicy, elegant and sweet Nebbiolo that is fine yet covers the mouth well - and we are always impressed by its lovely salty mouthfeel. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wild rosemary and sage notes mingle with plum and cherry fruit in this enticing red, which is harmonious and feels rich midpalate, ending with floral, berry and herb accents, along with moderate tannins." Wine Spectator
"With fruit from Treiso, the 2018 Barbaresco Pajoré shows a lot of shape and depth, all supported by generous but carefully balanced fruit. The bouquet is layered with summer cherry and dried cassis, with earthy tones, camphor ash and powdered licorice. You also get a whiff of crushed flowers or roses. This is an extremely silky and elegant wine with only 6,000 bottles produced." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barbaresco Pajorè is quite closed. It shows all the translucent elegance of all the wines in the range. Spice, mineral, melted road tar, rose petal, leather and lavender bring out the darker, more balsamic inflections of Nebbiolo. This potent, structured Barbaresco is quite backward today. Readers need to be especially patient." Vinous

"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Seductive ripe yet cool raspberry nose with just a suggestion of savoury oak. Lively, juicy red fruit with firm chewy tannins that make their presence truly felt, but the elegant, concentrated fruit effortlessly holds up." Jancis Robinson
"Slightly more subdued on first nose, the Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Cottá is the kind of wine that will deliver its best results when it has had time to flesh out and evolve. You can taste the freshness and the tightness of the primary fruit in this vintage, along with plenty of wild cherry and crushed rose. Spicy oak tones emerge carefully as the wine warms in the glass." Wine Advocate
"The fruit expression of this wine is dark, with black cherry and blackberry flavors that are backed by vivid acidity and mingle with tar and underbrush. Delivers powerful tannins that dominate the finish, though they're not overly astringent. Still, this lacks the harmony of the best at this stage and will require additional time to find its sweet spot." Wine Spectator
"Extremely perfumed and bright, with ripe strawberry, orange peel and white truffle. Some roses, too. Full-bodied with layers of ripe fruit and excellent structure behind. This is a fantastic Barbaresco for the vintage. Muscular and clear, Best after 2025." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barbaresco Cottá shows all the richness and weight this site is capable of. Dark red fruit, rose petal, lavender, blood orange and cedar open nicely in the glass, but ultimately it is the wine's huge mid-palate and fine balance that impress most. The 2019 is a tremendous Cottá. It is also one of the more finessed wines at Sottimano this year. There's plenty of size, but exceptional balance, too." Vinous
"Dark spice, forest floor, rose and new leather aromas shape the nose along with a whiff of wild berry on this fragrant, radiant red. Tightly wound and linear, the focused palate offers red cherry, licorice and toasted nut alongside firm tannins and racy acidity. Austere and elegant, it needs time to fully develop." Wine Enthusiast
"From the historic cru of the house, between Barbaresco and Neive, with plants over 60 years old, nose with hints of raspberry jam, licorice and mint, with touches of juniper. Juicy sip, with savory tannins, finish with officinal and fruity return, of excellent persistence." Luca Gardini

"Lustrous mid ruby. A concentrated raspberry nose that is a little brooding. With aeration, it opens up and shows fantastic depth of fruit with touches of cinnamon bark. Juicy sweet raspberry fruit and finely ground, chewy tannins vie for attention. Really elegant and still quite youthful, so it needs more time." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 Barbaresco Pajorè is dense and quite closed in on itself. Then again, that is Pajorè. There's terrific depth and density here, but not quite the power of some recent releases. That's not a bad thing, as the more restrained style allows the nuance to come through. This is an especially refined edition of the Pajorè. Today, the Pajorè is quite compact and a bit of a bruiser, but there's terrific fruit intensity that just needs time to blossom." Vinous
"Plenty of red fruit with cranberry and watermelon undertones. Fresh flowers, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are back-loaded and give you a punch at the end of the palate. The center-palate has bright flavors of strawberry and orange with hints of flowers. Try after 2025." James Suckling
"Truffle, red berry, rose and sandalwood aromas slowly take shape in the glass. Taut and linear, the palate reveals truffle, dried cherry, orange zest and star anise accompanied by fine-grained, rather drying tannins and fresh acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"This Barbaresco displays breadth, providing the framework for macerated cherry, plum, earth, menthol, licorice and tar flavors. Chewy in the end, with freshness and complexity. Be patient." Wine Spectator
"Here's a beautifully elegant and fine expression of Nebbiolo from Treiso. The Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Pajoré shows an earthy personality with crushed stone and potting soil that frame a pretty core of red and purple fruits. I love the depth and complexity of this wine and the slightly more structured tannins that give this wine power and importance." Wine Advocate
"From vineyard located in Treiso, with plants of 50-60 years, a Barbaresco of great finesse. Strawberry tree on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and white pepper, closed by hints of wild mint. Palate with iodine-brackish tannins, fruity and mentholated return." Luca Gardini

"Tasted blind. Maturing mid ruby with narrow bricky rim. Cloves, cinnamon bark and cherry palate with lots of coating tannins. Great balance, length and concentration. Hedonistic but needs more time." Jancis Robinson
"The 2015 Barbaresco Cottá comes across as a bit heavy, which is something that can happen in warmer vintages, where the natural heft of this site is amplified. There is no shortage of intensity and power, but the Cottà feels blowsy today. On the more positive side, the 2015 does offer a good bit of freshness. It will be interesting to see where things ultimately shake out here." Antonio Galloni
"Very attractive red-cherry, redcurrant, plum and floral nose with discreet oak, then a sleek yet powerful and tannic palate with a lot of structure and some real elegance. Enough fruit for immediate drinking, but this is made for aging." James Suckling
"From a celebrated cru in Neive, the 2015 Barbaresco Cottá is a shapely, soft and accessible interpretation of Nebbiolo from a warm vintage. This mid-weight wine boasts a bright bouquet with ruby highlights. Those aromas are alert, tonic and straightforward in delivery. In terms of mouthfeel, this wine is firm and structured. However, the astringency is safely within bounds (for a young Nebbiolo). Some 10,000 bottles were made. Only 10% of the wine goes into new oak and the rest goes into neutral barrique." Wine Advocate
"Cherry, strawberry, chicory and woodsy notes mark this solidly structured, tightly wound Barbaresco. The sweet fruit offsets the dense tannins for balance, and this stays long and vibrant." Wine Spectator

Barbaresco Serraboella DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Medium-bodied ruby red, fine rose bouquet with hints of tea and dried herbs. Beautiful black cherry aroma with well-integrated wood notes makes it a balanced and at no point intrusive wine. The 2019 climate also gave this Nebbiolo an impressive precision and straightness. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium red, spicy, some fruit, appealing; fluid, juicy, good depth, caramel, length, pleasant astringency, pleases." Merum
"Wonderful representative that combines power and finesse, in addition has good inner tension and density and works harmoniously from A-Z, shows classic fruit notes, stays long and gives a lot of pleasure and enjoyment." Weinwisser
"Just mid ruby. Impressive, deep red-fruit nose with savoury spice touches. Full fruit on the palate kept in check by lots of hefty tannins. There is an abundance of everything, but the whole remains elegant and well balanced. Pure raspberry fruit finish." Jancis Robinson
"Lovely concentration of red fruit with some currants and strawberries. Very fruity for the vintage. Full-bodied with round, polished tannins and a chewy finish. It’s a very typical Barbaresco, with solid concentration for the vintage." James Suckling
"Packaged in its distinctive black label, the Fontanabianca 2019 Barbaresco Serraboella is a subdued, graceful and incredibly silky wine that falls softly over the palate and caresses the senses. There is a lot of beauty here with red fruit aromas, powdered licorice, raspberry tart and plenty of blue flower or lilac. I love the fine texture of the mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of new leather, menthol, licorice and dark-skinned berry shape the nose on this perfumed red. Juicy and savory, the radiant palate delivers succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and cinnamon set against a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. It's vibrant, balanced and youthfully tense, with nervous acidity." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco “Pajoré" DOCG 2015
Bright garnet red with copper edge. Here comes the most opulent and friendly Barbaresco of the highly impressive squad of Sottimano's individual vineyards. Lavish scent of black fruits, orange peel, rounded off with a fine nut note. Fine-grained tannin already at an early age envelops the firm structure and reinforces the highly distinctive character - and this is only the beginning: with the years of maturity, Pajoré will have convinced even the last doubter of his monumental charisma and cast a spell over him! SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense ruby garnet with luminous core. Elegant nose of rose petals, plums and some rum pot, in the aftertaste of blackberries. Plucking and salty on the palate, balanced and harmonious from start to finish, especially in the middle very strong, ends long and fruity". Falstaff
"Tasted blind. Dark ruby with narrow bricky rim. Ripe, dark cherry that is a little ethereal but certainly complex. Full, ripe-fruit palate that is not yet as complex as the nose has it, but certainly generous and mouth-filling. Long and tactile finish with bags of grainy tannins matching the rich fruit." Jancis Robinson
"Sleek and linear, with cherry, strawberry, menthol and chalky, stony flavors fused to the muscular tannins. Finishes lean and dry, with a kernel of sweet fruit bound up in the structure. This seems to have already shut down, so forget about it for five years." Wine Spectator
"Intense aroma of cloves, but also rose and earth notes. This rather sophisticated, medium-to full-bodied Barbaresco has bold, dry tannins that are well integrated and a long, dry finish." James Suckling
"Of these various single-vintage releases by Sottimano (including Basarin, Cottá and Fausoni), the 2015 Barbaresco Pajorè is very well integrated and smooth. The tannin management shows an excellent approach, and you don't get the astringency that comes forward in the Basarin. Instead, this expression offers increased focus on the ripe, round and plump fruit of the vintage. Only 5,000 bottles (including magnums) were produced." Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Barbaresco Pajoré is the most potent and brooding of the 2015s. The heft, weight and structure of Pajoré comes through in the 2015, but the flavor profile is similar to that of the other wines. Racy, silky and generous, the 2015 is very much the product of a warm, sunny growing season. The Pajoré will need at least a few years to shed some tannin, but it is very showy, even at this early stage." Antonio Galloni

Barbaresco Faset DOCG 2020
Michele Chiarlo's Barbaresco Faset offers a high degree of intensity and balance. Its bouquet shows wild berries and cassis with sophisticated background notes of tar, smoke and dark spices. It is a silky expression of the grape variety with a long and very convincing finish. Be patient and give it another 3-5 years to give it the time it needs to integrate and balance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very attractive with dried cherries and raspberries as well as dried roses, nutshell and spice box. Medium body. Lively and dynamic palate with compact tannins that have a velvety texture. Long and concentrated with an attractive fruit character." James Suckling
"The Michele Chiarlo 2020 Barbaresco Faset offers a pretty ensemble of wild berry or raspberry flavours with rose, lavender bud, light cinnamon stick and liquorice root. These different elements are well integrated and balanced, and are gently revealed over a polished, mid-weight mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Pure and vibrant aromas of cranberry and wild strawberry lift from the glass as hints of thyme, forest floor and crushed chalk slowly surface. The palate's core is defined by the electric and vivid wild red-fruit flavors that zoom in and out of focus as savory and earth elements provide counterbalance while superfine tannins hold the wine together, finishing with a charm and finesse." Barbaresco “Basarin” DOCG 2020
"A dense red, solidly built and displaying mint, eucalyptus, vanilla and resin flavors, while berry and cherry fruit elements struggle to emerge. Despite its freshness and length, this is locked up tight." Wine Spectator
"The Barbaresco Basarin 2020 with fruit from the village of Neive is a generous and full-bodied wine with soft fruit tones and lots of powerful cherry. Sottimano Maggiore likes to work with ambient yeasts and submerged cap. This is a fruit-driven Nebbiolo from a warm vintage. It shows above average concentration, but not much, and feels quite soft and supple on the palate." Wine Advocate
"The Barbaresco Basarin 2020 is a wine of pure and perfect sensuality. For a young Barbaresco that has just been bottled, the Basarin has great balance. On the palate, a firework of dark red fruits, spices, rose petals, mint and blood orange unfolds, followed by a powerful kick of Nebbiolo acidity and tannin. The harvestmust be patient. This heady, explosive Barbaresco is shaping up to be a real gem." Vinous
"Aromas of dried cherries, cocoa, cinnamon and bark with hints of dried rose petals. Medium to full-bodied and structured with taut but fine tannins that linger. Shows tension and depth. Long lingering finish." James Suckling

Barbaresco DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM
The grapes for the Barbaresco come mainly from the top vineyards Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo. Deep, lively ruby to garnet red. Extensive bouquet of red fruits and pastries with a mineral touch. On the palate, it convinces with a rich, solid structure as well as a continuous development, which ends in a long-smelling final. The leading winegrowers' cooperative in Italy shows every year already with its basic Barbaresco what it and its members are capable of. SUPERIORE.DE
"Youthful mid ruby. A proper, concentrated fruit nose, which this vintage is woefully short of. Subtle marasca cherry palate with lots of finely ground tannins; head and shoulders above the rest." Jancis Robinson
"This is aromatic and attractive with notes of dried cherries, hibiscus, cocoa and bark, following through a medium body with polished and refined tannins with velvety texture, and a linear finish. Fresh and floral at the end with a bright red fruit backbone." James Suckling
"The 2020 Barbaresco is a lovely, harmonious wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Forward fruit and soft curves are perhaps a bit uncharacteristic for young Barbaresco but that also make the wine very enjoyable. Juicy red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, spice, cedar, mint and tobacco all meld together in the glass. Classicists will probably prefer other vintages, but it's hard not to like the 2020 for its charming, effusive personality. At the same time, aeration brings out greater aromatic presence and a good deal of structure, too." Vinous
"Still vinous, with youthful strawberry notes, rosebud, violet, liquorice and a whiff of cinnamon. Savoury and floral on the palate which is dominated by firm, crisp, long acidity and velvety ripe tannins of an amazing quality; perhaps just a bit stern on the aftertaste. Amazing Barbaresco. Here we have the cooperative of Barbaresco and one known as producing some of the best-priced quality wines in all of Langhe." Decanter
"The 2020 Barbaresco boasts an ample set of aromas with wild cherry, blue flower, sweet spice and crushed limestone. As always, the wine paints an exciting and authentic portrait of Nebbiolo, albeit with a little more richness and texture in this vintage. This is especially true in terms of the palate, where the wine offers mid-weight intensity with melting tannins." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco “Cottà" DOCG 2020
Bright garnet red with a copper-coloured rim. Fine olfactory cinema of red fruits and sea buckthorn. In addition, forest earth paired with a hint of tobacco and bitter almond. In the glass still young, initially loud tannins, with some air then softer tones and a powerful, lasting final. An elegant, aristocratic wine that leaves a lasting impression not only on the first glass. SUPERIORE.DE
"This red has a warm, brambly, woodsy quality that downplays the muted fruit. Boasts burly tannins, with a spicy, complex finish. Shows the more muscular side of Barbaresco." Wine Spectator
"Notes of raspberries and plum skins with walnuts, bark, ground spices and damp earth. Polished and a little chewy with medium to full body and chalky texture of the tannins. Firm and consistent. Straightforward finish." James Suckling
"The 2020 Barbaresco Cottá shows an austere character with pronounced rust or iodine aromas intermingled with dark fruits and dried cherries. The wine has a generous, medium-weight texture that offers a good amount of firmness to the palate. Give this pretty wine a little more time to develop." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Barbaresco Cottá is dense, powerful and self-contained. Black cherry, plum, spice, menthol, mocha and earthiness contribute to an impression of gravitas. Huge tannins add plenty of structure to this powerful, brooding wine. This impressive young Barbaresco needs time." Vinous

Barbaresco Asili DOCG 2020
Michele Chiarlo's Barbaresco Asili comes from vines that are around 30 years old and has a fragrant bouquet with bright and fresh aromas of wild cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, blue flowers and crushed stone. This vintage shows a level of energy and vitality that makes it stand out from the crowd, and the wine is elegant and silky in texture. This is a particularly soft and polished expression of the famous Asili vineyard in Barbaresco. SUPERIORE.DE
"It is very fresh and racy with red and blue berries, crushed violets, lavender and walnuts. It is medium-bodied, structured and fleshy with solid tannins that are ripe and velvety, yet give the wine a firm backbone. The fruit is lively and pronounced with lots of floral and spicy notes." James Suckling
"The Michele Chiarlo 2020 Barbaresco Asili comes from one of the most famous vineyards in the appellation and offers more flavour and depth alongside the Barbaresco Faset. The two wines complement each other very well, with the Faset showing more primary fruit and the Asili more texture." Wine Advocate
"The beauty of the Chiarlo Barbarescos is how they coax such beautiful aromas out of their wines, and this wine is no exception with captivating aromas of Marasca cherries, macerated raspberries, wild rose and bay leaf. Pristine flavors of wild red-berry preserves, sweet tea and cedar finishing with elegant tannins and crisp acidity." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco Albesani DOCG 2020
"From the very first moments of fermentation of this wine, we realise every year that we are dealing with a very high expression of Nebbiolo. The MGA Albesani is a very beautiful vineyard in the municipality of Neive with ideal exposure and perfect altitude. From there comes a rich, elegant, sometimes austere wine that combines its great appeal with excellent ageing potential." Franco Massolino
Barbaresco Albesani shows all the breadth and resonance so typical of this famous hillside vineyard in Neive. Red-purple fruits, spices, rose petals, lavender, menthol and liquorice develop with a little time in the glass. Bright acids and lively tannins give this classic, inviting Barbaresco from Massolino plenty of energy and stamina. SUPERIORE.DE
"Freshly mown hay and green tea accents frame cherry, strawberry and white pepper flavors in this sleek yet dense red. Overall, this remains balanced and elegant, with a beam of fruit persisting on the aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Exciting and racy red fruits with dried herbs and hibiscus with undertones of nutshells. Clean and lively on the palate with medium body and compact, ripe tannins that give the wine a firm and long mouthfeel. Velvety finish. Attractive already, but even better from 2025." James Suckling
"The Massolino 2020 Barbaresco Albesani from the village of Neive shows more balance at this young age than the winery's classic Barbaresco. This single-vineyard wine also has more depth with nuances of dark berries, cassis, blue flowers and crushed limestone. The floral aromas emerge with beautiful intensity. The wine's tannins are very fine and silky." Wine Advocate
"The Barbaresco Albesani 2020 has more substance and depth than the pure Barbaresco. The differences between the two wines are not so pronounced at first, but that comes with aeration. With time, macerated cherries, plums, spices, lavender, rose petals and sage develop in the glass. All the richness and power of the Albesani come out. For harvestwho want to understand what makes Albesani tick, this is the wine for you!" Vinous
"Very restrained on the nose, with smoky forest notes, preserved flowers and chocolate, wrapped in a fresh, elegant currant fruit. Very tasty on the palate, with fresh acidity and velvety, chewy, youthful tannins that are very precise and woven into the finish. Given its firm structure, this is not an easy wine to drink now, but it shows a quality in terms of texture and liquorice length that will keep it interesting for a long time." Decanter

Limitation of 2 articles per customerBarbaresco “Il Bricco” DOCG 2014
Barbaresco Il Bricco presents itself with more depth than the "normal" Barbaresco. In the bouquet dark red stone fruit, menthol, spices, leather and some cedar wood. On the palate, already at a young age, it is powerful and with a lot of muscle power, which, together with the harmoniously balanced tannin and acid structure, gives a glimpse of a great, long life with a hopeful development. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense ruby with a light garnet edge. The nose initially shows subtle smoky notes, then full-bodied plums, blackberries and forest raspberries. On the palate it is firm and full-bodied, unfolds with present, dense tannin, finely coated with sweet enamel, firm, very juicy, firm pressure in the finish". Falstaff
"A beefy version, with rich, dense tannins, evoking flavors of cherry, wild herbs, menthol and tobacco. A hefty dose of oak adds sweet spice details and tannins. Needs time to absorb the oak. Best from 2022 through 2038." Wine Spectator
"Extremely perfumed aromas with dried flowers, light stems, fresh herbs and dried strawberries. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a linear and bright finish. So delicious now." James Suckling

Barbaresco Serraboella DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Deep, concentrated bouquet with some lift and brooding intensity. Concentrated and long, but convincingly balanced by an integrated acidity and a rich layer of sandy tannins. Good potential, even if it can be enjoyed now. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very pale ruby in the glass, with mushroom earthiness, straw, strawberry, cinnamon and a meaty touch. This fierce character is supported by a very savoury attack, with delicate acid, polished and vibrant tannins: a large palate and a lot of details. There is great balance despite a bit of austerity on the finish. Super-classic for ageing." Decanter
"Fresh and crunchy with red fruit, dried herbs, potpourri and moist earth. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins, that are ripe and velvety. Dry and a little chewy at the end with attractive fruit coming through." James Suckling
"Packaged with a black label and eye-catching lettering in red, the Fontanabianca 2020 Barbaresco Serraboella reveals a very fine, almost dusty personality with wild berry, crushed rose and wet river stone. The wine is beautifully balanced, with dry tannins presented next to delicately sweet berry fruit. The Serraboella shows the careful winemaking practiced at this estate. Only 4,000 bottles were made." Wine Advocate
"Reserved yet somewhat haunting on the nose, this wine presents pristine dark-berried fruit aromas, dried rose and savory spices. Warmed and macerated black cherry shines on the palate, accompanied by mouthwatering acidity and a solid earthy bass note with firm, yet fine tannins. This wine is meant to be savored." Barbaresco “Currá" DOCG 2013
Garnet red with delicate violet reflections. Currá 2013 is initially archaic and unapproachable. With time and oxygen it reveals dark berries and a fine chocolate note. In his style he is rather angular, but does not deny his greatness and harmony at any point. Tobacco, plums, smoke and tobacco: with every glass this exceptional wine reveals new facets and a firework of impressions. So Nebbiolo goes from 65 years old vines at the highest level! SUPERIORE.DE
"A fresh, cherry-, mineral- and tar-flavored red whose great structure provides support. Elements of underbrush and earth come into play on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2013 Barbaresco Currá offers a savory side that is seamlessly juxtaposed against a plump fruity side. Those two halves paint a pretty picture of this unusual and slightly cooler vintage. The wine shows power and a great sense of forward thrust or momentum that will serve it well as it ages in your cellar. The 1.5-hectare vineyard is planted to 65-year-old vines in the Neive subzone." Wine Advocate
"A rich, explosive wine, the 2013 Barbaresco Currà possesses remarkable depth, intensity and power. Dark cherry, smoke, leather, spice and savory herb nuances saturate the palate in an explosive, full-throttle Barbaresco. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2013 is going to need at least several years in bottle to fully come around. A final blast of exotic, perfumed aromatics makes it very hard to move onto the next wine." Antonio Galloni
