    2019 was a gift to Nebbiolo in the Barbaresco DOCG - and Vanotu has accepted it. This Barbaresco from the historic Basarin cru vineyard in Neive bears the signature of a great vintage with quiet naturalness: nothing is overdrawn, nothing loud - everything is in its place with quiet precision. The vines stand on sparse limestone marl, interspersed with sandy veins, with optimal south-west exposure. This site produces wines with depth and tension, but also airiness - a play of power and transparency that is exemplified in Vanotu 2019. The wine was matured for 20 months in French barriques, sensitively dosed, only to frame the wine, not to mould it.

    Clear, sparkling garnet colour in the glass. The nose is open, but not revealing - it tells a story in stages: dried cherry, orange peel, lavender, fennel seeds, smoked wood, plus that characteristic note of iron and warm earth that you only find in Barbaresco. With time in the glass, depth and flavour emerge - a quiet complexity that unfolds rather than imposes itself. On the palate, Vanotu 2019 is already balanced: the fruit is ripe but not soft, the tannins are present but silky, the acidity is taut and carrying. It is no longer a young promise - it has become substance. The finish is long, with a mineral character, subtle spicy notes and an almost floating freshness that does not deny its age, but rather ennobles it ... This is the great Vanotu in matured form: focussed, calm, deep. Not a monument, but a benchmark. Anyone who wants to know how Nebbiolo breathes in the south of the Langhe should linger here - not for the effect, but for the echo. A wine that lingers long after the glass is empty. Chapeau!
