Ischia's wine-growing tradition dates back to the ancient Greeks: the Eubeans introduced the vine to the island in the 8th century BC. The famous Nestor bowl in the Archaeological Museum of Lacco Ameno still bears an inscription praising the good local wine today – a testimony to thousands of years of wine culture. Extraordinary wines are produced on the volcanic pearl in the Gulf of Naples. Monte Epomeo, the extinct volcano, with its mineral-rich soils of green tufa, characterises the wines. The sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea temper the warm Mediterranean climate and give the wines their natural freshness. The eponymous "Parracine" – kilometres of dry stone walls made from green tuff – are the centrepiece of the island landscape. Built by generations of Ischitanian stonemasons, these walls protect the spectacular terraces and enable heroic viticulture on the steep slopes.

Redimore Aglianico comes from a special vineyard in Mirabella Eclano, planted with an old, historic Aglianico clone that has been cultivated by the Mastroberardino family for generations. The warm days and cool nights of this location give the wine depth and freshness in equal measure. Dense ruby red colour with a purple hue in the glass. The bouquet opens with black cherry, plum, violet and fine herbs, underpinned by tobacco, cocoa and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe, finely interwoven tannins, juicy fruit and balsamic spice. The ageing in oak barrels lends additional complexity and length. Irpinia is not Campania in the tourist sense – no sea, no Vesuvius, no Amalfi Coast. It is the inland area behind Avellino, a world of Apennine hills, chestnut forests and tranquillity, where viticulture has been deeply rooted since ancient times. Columella and Pliny already mentioned Fiano – as "Vitis Apicia" because of its ability to attract swarms of bees to the vineyards. Feudi di San Gregorio has been committed to this tradition in Sorbo Serpico since 1986. Pietracalda is their most precise expression of Fiano: a single vineyard of ten hectares, nestled between chestnut woods and old fruit trees at an altitude of 400 to 600 metres – a terroir that provides Fiano with freshness. Hand-picked, fermented in temperature-controlled steel, then aged sur lie for twelve months – longer than the normal Fiano, and it is precisely this difference that characterises the Riserva: more texture, more depth, more substance.

One of the most characterful white wines in southern Italy comes from the high vineyards around Tufo – the Riserva Cutizzi version of Greco di Tufo is particularly elegant and brooding. The mineral soils of volcanic origin, the cool nights at 500 to 600 metres above sea level and the selective harvest characterise the distinctive profile of this exceptional white wine. Light golden yellow with silvery reflections in the glass. The bouquet reveals a dense yet focussed aroma: ripe yellow citrus fruit, nectarine, green fennel and a hint of wet chalk. Clear and structured on the palate, with a salty freshness and creamy texture that comes from ageing on the fine lees. Finishes with a fine almond note and a delicate, almost sparse mineral grip.

Light straw yellow in colour with a greenish tinge. The nose shows ripe yellow fruit – williams pear, lemon zest, a hint of apricot – accompanied by floral notes and delicate smoke. Taut on the palate, with lively acidity, juicy fruit and a fine, chalky finish. The typical salinity of Greco is elegantly emphasised here. “Neroametà" Bianco Campania IGT 2020
Back in the 1980s, Antonio Mastroberardino was one of the first to experiment with something that was almost considered a provocation at the time: he vinified Aglianico, the large, tannin-rich red wine variety from southern Italy, as a white wine. He called the result "Plinius". The experiment lay dormant until the family revived it under a new name: Neroametà – "half black" – a tribute to the grape's origins and the courage to think differently. 100% Aglianico, grown in Mirabella Eclano at 400 metres, in deep, sandy-loamy soils with a volcanic matrix and clay at depth – the same terroir that produces the Taurasi DOCG. Hand-picked in mid-October. Then the decisive step: Vinification without any contact with the skins, in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by ten months on the lees and at least 18 months of ageing in the bottle. The colour stays outside – elegance and minerality are allowed inside.

The bouquet entices with fresh aromas of white peach, yellow pear, citrus zest and a hint of elderflower, underpinned by fine herbal spice and a mineral finish. On the palate, the wine is lively and elegant: a precise balance between juicy fruit, animating acidity and a subtle salty trace. The stainless steel fermentation with bâtonnage on the fine lees adds depth without too much weight. Matured exclusively in stainless steel tanks, the wine appears unadulterated and varietally typical in expression. Bright, pale straw yellow in the glass – clear and transparent. The bouquet is fine and appealing: white flowers, yellow peach, citrus zest, complemented by fruity notes of pear and fine herbal tones. The trilogy is complete: after Core Rosso (since 2011) and Core Bianco (since 2015), Silvia Imparato is finalising her homage to Campania's great grape varieties with the first Core Rosato 2025. Core – neapolitan for heart, for love – also comes from the volcanic vineyards of the Sannio near Benevento, where tuff, volcanic ash and limestone give the Aglianico a unique minerality. Short skin contact, then vinified like a white wine under the direction of Riccardo Cotarella.

Pietracupa's Fiano 2020 is a prime example of how precise and complex this grape variety from the Irpinia highlands can be. The vines grow on limestone and clay-rich soils around Montefredane, where cool nights and a long growing season ensure fine flavours and elegant structure. 2020 brought balanced conditions that harmoniously combined freshness and ripeness. Medium straw yellow with golden reflections. The bouquet is multi-layered: ripe apricot, candied lemon, hazelnut, white flowers and a hint of honey, underpinned by mineral notes. Dense yet straightforward on the palate, with juicy acidity, fine texture and a long, slightly salty finish. A Fiano with depth and clarity that is a true reflection of its origin and will continue to gain expression over the coming years. SUPERIORE.DE

The olive groves of the Iacobucci family grow on the same clay hills of Guardia Sanframondi as the vines – sannio Beneventano, one of the oldest olive-growing regions in southern Italy, long overshadowed by the more famous coastal olive groves, but with its own character and deep tradition. Ortice, Ortolana, Racioppella and other Beneventan varieties, all of which are indigenous. What defines the Classico is speed and care: the olives are hand-picked and cold-pressed no later than 24 hours after harvesting – without the addition of water, using an integral process. Only periodic decanting instead of filtering, so that the oil breathes without losing its natural structure. Acidity below 0.5 per cent.
