"The Riserva from Poggio di Sotto is selected from a single 30-hectolitre barrel and normally remains in wood for a full 45 months. In 2018, however, the time in barrel was reduced to just 30 months to preserve the freshness and elegance of the vintage, and this really comes through in the wine. With a little coaxing, it emerges from its reductive cocoon to reveal nuances of chestnut and flint, before blossoming with thyme and lavender. Graceful and streamlined, the medium-bodied palate resounds with red cherry, orange peel and an inherent juiciness. "The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Poggio di Sotto was restrained when I tasted it, probably due to a certain awkwardness in such a young sample. This bottle should be given more time, as tasted now, it was definitely poured before its prime. The bouquet begins with austere aromas of oil paintings or waxed antiques, but these quickly fade. An exciting composition of redcurrants, cherry peel, rose petals and floral potpourri then unfolds. On the palate, the wine is very lively, with fresh berry fruit, integrated acidity and fine, chalky tannins. This wine also needs more time in the bottle." Wine Advocate

Luca Currado cultivates the Brunate Cru on the La Morra side of the vineyard (opposite the Barolo side) and this wine contains fruit from new plots. It convinces with an impressive aroma of red berries, cherries, wild herbs, mint, minerals and rose petals, rounded off by a hint of blood orange. On the palate we find a terrific softness and textural silkiness, this continues with hints of mint, liquorice and camphor ash for many minutes. With around 8,000 bottles produced in this smaller vintage, the wine is very indicative of its geographical origin with dense black fruit, rusty nail, blood orange and earth. Tenuta Tignanello is located in the heart of Chianti Classico on the gentle hills between the valleys of the Greve and Pesa rivers and comprises 319 hectares of land, of which around 130 are planted with vines. The estate's vineyards include two jewels: Tignanello and Solaia, which are located on the same hill, on calcareous and schistose marl soils of marine origin from the Pliocene, and which benefit from warm days and fresh nights during the growing season. Two wines are produced from these vineyards, which many years ago had the potential to become the starting point of the Italian wine renaissance. Nothing has changed to this day.

Tignanello is more classic than ever in the excellent year 2021. The tried-and-tested blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc comes to the fore with impressive clarity and attention to detail. 2017 was the very first vintage of Massetino. It was launched in 2019, exactly 30 years after the first Massetino vintage. The newly designed wine cellar by Italian architects Zito & Mori was also inaugurated in 2019. The birth of the second wine and the opening of the wine cellar represent a historic moment for Masseto and clearly contribute to its recognition as a winery.

Massetino already shows a self-confident personality, which is not surprising as he shares the same pedigree with Masseto. Just like its older brother, it skilfully showcases the contrast between power and opulence combined with restraint and class. The high quality potential, which was already evident when tasting the grapes before the harvest, is fully expressed in the quality profile of Massetino 2021. A solid, crisp wine with a bright colour. Its flavours are memorable thanks to their richness and long finish. Lively, young tannins that are constantly evolving give the wine consistency and persistence on the palate. Massetino 2021 proves to be just as powerful as the vintage from which it comes. With this single-vineyard Sangiovese, the Mazzei family pursues no less a goal than to make the best wine in the Chianti Classico appellation. Seven different Sangiovese clones, four of them from their own 50 years of research, form the basis for a Gran Selezione that is produced at an altitude of up to 350 m in the single vineyard Il Caggio not far from Castellina (and only in the best vintages).

Ipsus ferments very traditionally for three weeks on the skins and matures 50% in new tonneaux and 50% in stainless steel as well as eight months in cement barrels. On the nose, rose petals, mint, blood orange and sweet tobacco. On the palate, the 2019 vintage is denser than many other Chianti Classico and it is very grippy in the process, with its pure, blood orange-infused, lush red fruits on the characterful finish. After a few hours in the air it becomes more open, more floral and only then does Ipsus show its true and most aristocratic face and a stunningly classic structure. After many years of identifying the best Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot parcels within the boundaries of their Bolgheri vineyard with the help of the famous OenologistMichel Rolland, the Antinori family discovered in the early 2000s that there was an even more special microclimate and terroir in the middle of this microclimate, the results of which surpassed those of the larger area. "Lodovico has been produced in Bibbona on the border with Bolgheri since 2007 and is a relatively young brand run by Lodovico Antinori. Annual production is less than 10,000 bottles and the exact blend is not disclosed. The wine is based on Cabernet Franc and is blended with small quantities of Merlot and Petit Verdot. It is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 16 months in barriques, although it is bottled at a significantly lower volume than an equivalent Bordeaux. The 2018 is not entirely representative (try the excellent and more concentrated 2016), but it describes the graceful, Margaux-like elegance of this super Tuscan quite well. The vineyard is located in the somewhat untamed area of Sesta, in the south-east of Montalcino, and has vines that are over 50 years old. Rabaja and Asili are probably the most famous sites in Barbaresco. Medium, finely fragrant nose of rose petals, cherries and blue blossoms, with restrained ethereal herbal notes. On the palate, powerful, compact and with a well-proportioned cornucopia of black fruits such as blackberry and cassis, plus some liquorice. As the wine progresses, it shows its power and a certain pressure, which, however, never comes across as wild or ostentatious, but always reflects the elegance of the site and the Giacosa-typical ageing in large wood.
