In 2001, the brothers Piero and Lodovico Antinori, together with their nephew Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi, recognised the extraordinary potential of the hills of Bibbona in the Upper Maremma. Instinct, passion and centuries of family experience led to a plot-by-plot study that would ultimately result in the creation of Tenuta di Biserno. The terroir of these 40 hectares, situated at an altitude of 90 metres, is of exceptional complexity: mainly alluvial and clay-limestone soils, which create the ideal environment for Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The varying exposures and the distance from the sea shape the varietal expression so strongly that the decision to create two production lines was inevitable: Biserno – the estate’s most prestigious and representative wine – and Il Pino di Biserno.

The 2022 vintage tells the story of a summer of contrasts. From late winter until mid-August, dry, warm weather prevailed, punctuated by beneficial rainfall between April and May, which kept fungal diseases at bay and contributed to the development of healthy grapes. Unexpected rainfall in August brought the late-ripening varieties – Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon – to full maturity. In the Bordeaux blend of this flagship wine, the finest grapes from the most suitable soils blend together to create a remarkable expression of terroir. The intense, deep and vibrant ruby red heralds a complex aromatic harmony: balsamic and Mediterranean scents, interwoven with sweet toasted notes, followed by a fruity bouquet of strawberries and black fruits, balanced by delicate pastry notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, enveloping and fluid, characterised by a fascinating salinity. The tannins are present and perfectly integrated. Persistent, balanced and expressive, it is ready to drink now but has considerable ageing potential.
