Lodovico Antinori has always been the creative force behind Tenuta di Biserno in Bibbona. In 2018, however, he started a new project called Tenuta del Nicchio with his daughter Sophia Antinori. The winery has 12 hectares of vineyards near Bolgheri and two hectares near the village of Castagneto Carducci. Il Nicchio (debut vintage 2021) is by no means just Lodovico's "second wine". It is inspired by the magnificent St. Emilion Cheval Cheval Blanc and is mainly made from Cabernet Franc. This grape variety thrives on the complex soils of the region, which consist of silt and alluvial sand with a high clay content. Just a hint of estate Merlot is added to create a wine with a character all of its own.

Dense ruby red with violet reflections. Ripe cherries, plums, herbs and a hint of tobacco on the nose. Il Nicchio is based on Cabernet Franc, complemented by a little Merlot - a cuvée with depth and an independent, very regional profile. Powerful and complex on the palate, with velvety tannins, freshness and length. The ageing in stainless steel and partly in wood ensures a balance between fruit and structure. A big red full of character with a clearly identifiable Tuscan coastal soul and the perfect equipment for a terrific maturity. SUPERIORE.DE

"This wine has a beguiling power, dark, Mediterranean and structured, but above all lively. On the nose, it shows eucalyptus, oak bark, smoke, violets and deep cassis fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied, heavy, dense and with velvety, elegant tannins. Juicy acidity on the finish. The powerful structure is well tamed, with a finish of sweet tobacco and orange leaves.
