Vigna Elena is a Ravera parcel of 1 hectare in size. Just 5,000 bottles of Cogno's famous Riserva come from here every year. The Vigna Elena 2019 has just the right balance between fruit and wood, which is often a real challenge in this category. The rather bright bouquet has red fruits and nuances of truffle, ash, dried citrus peel and pressed flowers. Elegant, brooding and powerful, as only a great Barolo can be, Vigna Elena possesses a wealth of nuances and dimensions from the very first sip. Exotic spice and orange peel notes, followed later by ripe raspberries, mocha and autumn leaves. The Vigna Elena 2019 is an absolute delight. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, rich garnet red colour, fine shimmer. Lots of sweet berry fruit, strawberry and wild raspberry, extremely inviting, some leather and liquorice in the background. Textured and firm on the palate, fine-meshed tannins form the backbone, firm pressure." Falstaff
"This wine represents the most important selection of fruit harvested on this vineyard on a small plot of one hectare. The top wine 2019 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is super precise and sharp with high density. The wine has a harsh flavour that carries over to dark fruits, purple berries and exotic spices. This spiciness continues on the palate, where you can taste mineral nuances and gravel. It matures for 36 months in oak. I would give the Riserva more time to develop." Wine Advocate
"Silky and stylish, this red wine is reminiscent of fading cherry, strawberry and rose aromas and flavours. There are also eucalyptus, wild rosemary, iron and tobacco elements, but overall it remains elegant and solid. It shows excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"The 1-hectare Vigna Elena, which was planted with the rare Nebbiolo Rosé in 1991, has been bottled separately as a Riserva since 1997. Winemaker Valter Fissore explains that this results in a leaner body with more tannins, which requires longer maturation. The 2019 presents itself stealthily yet haunting with roses, freesia and strawberry blossom. There are also hints of brushwood and liquorice. But it's really the floral bouquet that asserts itself and discreetly transfers to the flawless, raspberry-saturated palate, where long, smooth and silky tannins intertwine and form well-defined boundaries. The definition of finesse." Decanter
