Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Viettis Ravera is one of the great stars of Piedmont in its precision and structure. Rose petals, chalk, pepper and a hint of pomegranate make this Barolo one of the most sought-after appellations every year. With a little storage maturity, the strong tannins give way to an elegant appearance that does not deviate one millimetre from the coveted style of this large site. A monument to Barolo, which apart from Vietti and Giacosa, only a few other Piedmontese winegrowers bring into the bottle with such consistency! SUPERIORE.DE

"Licorice, nuts and chocolate dominate the rich bouquet of this sophisticated Barolo. The dense and velvety tannins give the long finish tremendous power!" James Suckling

"Cherry, raspberry, rose, anise and tobacco aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this rich red. The core of fruit is well-supported by dense, refined tannins and vibrant acidity. Shows excellent balance and length. Seemingly built to age." Wine Spectator

"To my palate, the Ravera cru is one of the most immediately recognizable in the entire Barolo appellation. It gives off robust aromas of cherry liqueur and bitter chocolate. Those are two of the beautifully polished characteristics you get with the 2014 Barolo Ravera. But there is a lot more complexity to behold in this wine. Subtle notes of balsam herb, crushed mineral and rusty iron also appear. This next descriptor might seem awkward to a non-Italian readership, but you might even detect a hint of perfumed anchovy. It's all good and all beautiful." Robert Parker

"Another highlight in this range, the 2014 Barolo Ravera opens with the most exquisite, captivating aromatics imaginable. It will be interesting to see if it develops a bit more midpalate depth and pliancy. Today, the 2014 is a bit austere, even within the context of the year and this site, where the wines are a bit on the nervous side to start. I have seen Vietti Raveras blossom into spectacular wines and imagine that will be the case here as well. Readers should not plan on opening a bottle anytime soon." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Top-class, complex and modern Barolo from Serralunga: Elegant, complex bouquet of cherries and blueberries, the full-bodied taste is of considerable density and length, perfectly integrates the tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with a garnet shimmer. Fine and fragrant nose, opens with notes of coriander and cinchona bark, then lots of rose petals, cherry and raspberry. Stoffig and full on the palate, opens with much hearty, present tannin, deep, present dark berry fruit, long reverberation, a late fuse!" Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is a landmark wine and one of the best expressions made region-wide in this challenging vintage. The bouquet is gorgeous thanks to the never-ending aromas of dark fruit, licorice and balsam herb that peel off the top. The Lazzarito vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba is characterized by thick soils and deep shifts between daytime and nighttime temperatures. These are important factors that lead to quality fruit despite the summer heat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is fabulous in this vintage. Rich, ample and structured, the 2011 is both opulent and savory in style. Iron, plums, dark red cherries, smoke, licorice and tobacco meld together in a remarkably harmonious young Serralunga Barolo. This is the first year the Vietti Lazzarito includes a second recently acquired parcel, which may be one of the factors that influences quality, but at the same time, the Lazzarito has been the most improved Barolo in the range. All the elements come together in the 2011, a wine that has it all. This is a great showing from the Lazzarito. Best of all, readers won't have to wait forever to enjoy this beautiful, pedigreed Barolo." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Lazzarito impresses every year with its precision and class - two characteristics not often found in the Nebbiolo of the Serralunga area. Iron, smoke and white pepper flow into the nose, in the glass these impressions are prolonged by a touch of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange. Viettis Lazzarito always also stands for strength and finesse and is in no way inferior to his "colleagues" from Ravera and Rocche. SUPERIORE.DE

"Although this leading producer changed ownership in 2016, the winemaking team remains unaltered. Most of its Barolos come from Castiglione Falletto, but the estate also makes Lazzarito from Serralunga, a wine aged in barriques as well as casks. The nose shows reserved red fruits and is lightly perfumed. Dense and very concentrated, it packs a punch with its hefty but ripe tannins. Assertive and very youthful, this is built to last and has impressive drive on the very long finish." Decanter

"The 2016 Barolo Lazzarito is another stunning wine in this range. The 2016 is the first vintage of the Lazzarito I can remember tasting in which intensely mineral notes accompany the more savory, earthy notes that are so typical of this site. Graphite, sage, dried flowers, crushed rocks, menthol, dried rose petal, mint, licorice and blood orange race out of the glass in a breathtaking, towering Barolo that hits all the right notes from the start to its chiseled, strikingly detailed finish. The 2016 Lazzarito is one of the most classically austere wines in this range. In a word: Magnificent." Vinous

Barolo Brunate DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Deep, full red with a fine sheen. The La Morra edition from Vietti's famous Barolo family impresses with an impressive aroma of red berries, cherries, wild herbs, mint, minerals and rose petals, rounded off with a touch of blood orange. On the palate it is opulent, full, with fine sweetness and structure and the multi-layered, long final is accompanied by almost aristocratic tannin. A typical Vietti-Cru with lots of class. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, vertical wine endowed with tremendous explosive energy and intensity. Crushed flowers, mint, spice and dried flowers open up in the glass, but it is the wine's energy that really elevates it into the stratosphere. In the glass, the 2016 is dark, somber and full of the sepia-toned nuances that are such signatures of this great Barolo vineyard. This is the first vintage that includes Vietti's newest parcel in Brunate. Perhaps more importantly, though, the 2016 is the first vintage in which French oak is minimal. This is a stunning vintage for the Brunate." Vinous

SUPERIORE.DE

"Just mid ruby. Firm yet closed on the nose. Quite pure cherry on the palate followed by muscular but polished, coating tannins. Concentrated yet elegant and finely balanced. Powerfully structured finish with plenty of fruit to match." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Barolo Brunate is powerful and dense in the glass, with plenty of Brunate tannin that enshrouds the palate. Iron, smoke, grilled herb, menthol and spice notes add complexity to the dark, sepia-toned fruit. The 2015 is a baby. It will benefit from several years in bottle and then drink well to age 25-30, perhaps beyond. This is the first vintage made from Vietti's expanded holdings following the acquisition of a parcel that formerly went to Andrea Oberto." Vinous

"This savory red delivers balsamic aromas and flavors of wild rosemary, juniper, eucalyptus and tobacco, revolving around a core of cherry, strawberry, graphite and licorice notes. Firm and sinewy on the finish, with an aftertaste of ripe, sweet fruit. Excellent length." Wine Spectator

"This has a rather reserved nose with dried-herb, rosehip, potpourri and light cedary aromas, ahead of fragrant dried cherries. The palate has quite dense and smoothly rendered, ripe tannins that deliver a long, composed and approachable Barolo." James Suckling

"This is an explosive and absolutely exuberant expression of Nebbiolo from a vineyard site in La Morra near M. Marengo’s property. Vietti farms two parcels here, a higher side of the vineyard and a lower one (near Damilano and Ceretto). These lower parts of Brunate perform very nicely in the cooler vintages. Instead, this warm vintage expression puts a lot of its fruit depth and personality upfront in a confident and no-fuss manner. You absolutely know what you are getting here, even at the first sniff of the bouquet. The wine proceeds to open and blossom before your nose, offering dark fruit, rose, spice and a very linear mineral tone at the back. That linear flinty note is just terrific." Robert Parker

Viettis Lazzarito always stands for strength and finesse and has been in no way inferior to his "colleagues" from Ravera and Rocche for quite some time. SUPERIORE.DE

"Just mid ruby. Dark and brooding nose of great depth. Generous and mouth-filling fruit and plenty of acidity adding freshness. A big layer of finely stitched tannins adds structure to the ripe fruit. Concentrated and deep." Jancis Robinson

"This powerful expression of an important Serralunga vineyard is aged both in barriques and large casks. It's deep in colour and shows lush, meaty aromas that at present lack finesse. It's very opulent and savoury on the palate, assertive without being astringent, and has imposing balance and length." Decanter

"The 2015 Barolo Lazzarito is one of the highlights in this range from Vietti. The power and gravitas of Serralunga come through loud and clear in a deep, beautifully resonant Barolo loaded with character. Iron, smoke, sage, menthol, licorice and rose petal give the Lazzarito its beguiling aromatic complexity. The massive tannins need time to soften, but there is a lot to look forward to once that happens." Vinous

"Rich and multifaceted, sporting cherry, raspberry, green tea, iron and tobacco flavors. The sweet fruit is matched to firm, dense tannins and the finish turns austere for now. Everything is in the right proportions, but patience is required." Wine Spectator

"This is a very youthful Barolo that has attractive, fragrant perfume with freshly picked roasting herbs and a strong, central thread of ripe cherries and red plums. The pure and concentrated palate frames intense plum and cherry flavors in long, unwavering tannins that deliver rich, strong and seamless into the finish. Exceptional quality and built for aging." James Suckling

"Opening to a beautifully floral bouquet, the 2015 Barolo Lazzarito delivers fragrant tones of violets, wild rose and a touch of orange blossom. As is the norm at Vietti, I tasted this wine and then wrote this review based on impressions gained from two samples—one opened several hours before my tasting and one opened at the moment of my review. Those floral notes came forth with increased intensity and clarity in the bottle that had been opened longer. The bouquet continues to surprise with touches of black fruit and freshly milled white pepper. However, like many wines from Serralunga d’Alba, this expression from Lazzarito reveals a pretty inner paradox. Those ethereal and balsamic aromas cede to a dense and rich mouthfeel, characterized by structure and power. Those two sides of the wine reach beautiful parity and lasting harmony." Robert Parker

"This red is full of sweet ripe plum, cherry and tar flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. Thick, dusty tannins coat the gums and put a clamp on the finish for now, but this shows potential." Wine Spectator

"The beautifully fragrant roses are impossible to resist. This oozes charm. Also, there are red cherries, cocoa powder and an array of wild herbs in the mix. The palate has toned yet muscular tannins that build nicely to deliver a concentrated core of ripe red-cherry flavor that holds long, fresh and youthful. Great Barolo." James Suckling

"The 2015 Barolo Ravera is once again the head of the class at Vietti. Bright, sculpted and wonderfully nuanced, the Ravera is very pretty. Floral aromatics and the pointed, brilliant fruit that is such a Ravera signature are very much in evidence. Hints of blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and flowers add shades of complexity as the 2015 gradually opens up in the glass. This is one of the finer wines of the year. Don't miss it!" Vinous

"Starting off a bit shy and closed at first, the 2015 Barolo Ravera showed noticeably better in the sample that had been opened a few hours prior to my arrival at the winery for my annual visit. This makes perfect sense as Vietti’s wines are intentionally slow at first but are built to endure the long haul. From the Novello township, this vineyard site is recognized for it power, structure and the uniquely broad approach it shows to the palate. There is a larger span of black fruit at its core. The positioning of the Ravera cru means it is open to the elements and the cold air from the Alps, and the wines result in freshness and mineral character as well. Luca Currado describes a salty, anchovy-like aroma that does indeed appear. Otherwise, this wine shows tightly polished and glossy tannins." Robert Parker

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2015 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is incredibly inviting from the very first taste. Silky and aromatic, the Rocche shows plenty of the classiness that is such a signature of this Castiglione Falletto site. As with all of these 2015s, readers will have to be patient. The 2015 gains striking volume and resonance with time in the glass, but a few years in bottle are an absolute must for the wine to show at its very best." Vinous

"A rich, almost opulent style, this Barolo delivers cherry, raspberry, plum and eucalyptus flavors on a base of stiff tannins. Turns vibrant and chewy, with a solid, minerally finish." Wine Spectator

"Along with the Ravera, the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione has a very fresh feeling (they are both grown with less direct sunlight). Indeed, there are many similarities between these two prestigious Barolos from Vietti, but the differences start with the vinification methods. While the Ravera sees malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the Rocche di Castiglione completes that phase in botte. To continue the comparison, these two wines are certainly more closed than the other Barolo crus from this producer, the Lazzarito and the Brunate, which blossom and open more quickly. Even though it is a bit shy, the defining characteristics of herbaceous rosemary and balsamic notes show up well in this vintage of the Rocche di Castiglione, a vineyard site that prizes elegance above all else." Robert Parker

"A hauntingly complex and finely detailed nose that touches so many different characters. Roses, dried wood, cedar, fine brown spices, light earthy notes, warm stones, mountain herbs and leaves. All here – very complex. The density and weight is exceptional, as is the fine, firm weave of tannins. The length is staggering and the tautness and balance are captivating. One of the stars of the vintage!" James Suckling

    • Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Brunate is a generous, full-bodied wine with feminine aromas of sweet berries and milk chocolate, very balsamic and round. The taste flows with a lot of fruit, beautiful intensity and great openness. Firmly structured with silky tannins, elegant and fresh finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a wine of enormous pedigree, although it does not fully reach the aspiring heights of the 2010 and 2009 vintages immediately before it. Those wines set the bar so high, you need to settle for this wine that is a masterpiece in its own right. It offers deep, dark intensity with generous tones of ripe fruit, blackberry and red currant. Background notes of rosemary, cherry cola and licorice add vitality and focus. There is a subtle touch of softness in the mouth that is followed by firm tannins." Robert Parker

"A dark, exotic Barolo, the 2011 Brunate boasts tons of density and volume. Black cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. Ultimately, though, the 2011 is largely defined by the texture and amplitude of the year." Antonio Galloni

"A beautiful purity of fruit to this young Barolo with ripe strawberries, citrus, flowers and spice. Full body, integrated tannins and a long finish. Need another two or three years to soften." James Suckling

"Smooth and harmonious, featuring cherry, licorice, tar and underbrush flavors. The tannins are present yet integrated. Fresh and long on the finish." Wine Spectator

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera represents the more traditional style of winemaking at Vietti. Graphite and iron aromas, with fruity sweet notes of cherry and raspberry, leather and black tea. Intense fruit with complex structure and beautifully interwoven tannin. Powerful and exceptionally stylish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby garnet. Fine nose with notes of raspberry and dark roses, flint and truffle in the background. On the palate very present, shows much fruit, at the same time fine-meshed, dense tannin, which still tolerates some storage, has very good potential, long finish." Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera opens to a pretty garnet color and dark ruby luminosity. The wine delivers tight concentration and a fine texture that adheres closely to the palate. Blackberry, cassis, spice, leather and tobacco emerge from the glass. Barolo Ravera also offers an earthy tone of white truffle or porcino mushroom. Soft oak density and thick fruit extract give the wine beautiful, full-bodied appeal. Give it ten more years of cellar aging to lose the baby fat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera is once again the most vibrant and nuanced of the Vietti Barolos. Freshly cut flowers, crushed rocks, mint and bright red stone fruits are all shaped by a very classic sense of mineral-inflected drive that is such a Ravera signature. The 2011 is a more than worthy follow up to the epic 2010. It's great to see this high-altitude district in Novello finally getting its due." Antonio Galloni

"Cherry and plum flavors permeate this rich, powerful red. Accented by menthol and leather, this is balanced and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and tobacco." Wine Spectator

"Engaging scents of wild berry, rose petal, aromatic herb and spice lead the nose. The full-bodied palate slowly reveals red cherry, anise, black pepper, clove and tobacco framed in assertive tannins and bright acidity. Give this time to fully open and develop." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2010
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2010 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Deep garnet red, intensely aromatic with notes of figs and plums. Elegant with soft and sweet tannins, followed by a long finish. A rich and robust drop with a velvety texture that is unparalleled in its complexity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Attractive, sparkling ruby garnet. Dense and compact nose, first showing notes of leather, then plum, cranberry, in the background slightly leafy tones. The palate shows complexity and play, opens with fine red berries, then a lot of grippy, dense tannin, in the core beautiful sweet melt, gripping and profound." Falstaff

"A subtle combination of dried-berry, tobacco and cedar characterfollows through to a full body with firm tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely layers." James Suckling

"With recently expanded acquisitions in this vineyard cru, the 2010Barolo Lazzarito shows an expansive personality with pretty tones ofcrushed rose and red berry fruit that give the wine a delicate, feminine approach. Like the other wines in Luca's portfolio of new releases, this Barolo is years away from its prime drinking potential. The nextten years should see a steady evolution of aromas stemming from thespice, tar and licorice layers already on display despite the wine'syoung age. The mouthfeel is fine and polished with a great sense ofpurity and balanced freshness." Robert Parker

"Tight and firm, with telltale tannins coating the cherry, plum, leather and tobacco flavors. Shows density and persistence, ending with a chalky sensation and lingering with fruit and spice notes. Built forthe long haul." Wine Spectator

"Closed still but with emerging notes of violet, blackberry andtruffle. Waves of succulent fruit with chalky and earthy tones. Lovelystructure with very fine tannins." Decanter

"The 2010 Barolo Lazzarito is impeccably polished, silky andrefined, especially for a Serralunga Barolo. Mint, violets, black fruit, smoke and deep layers of spices are some of the many notes that fleshout on the inviting, textured finish. Today, the Lazzarito is incredibly primary to the point of being raw and undeveloped, but it is explosive, bursting with energy and flat-out great." Antonio Galloni

    • Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2016
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on power, intensity and strength. At the same time Rocche is incredibly precise and complex every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes Rocche so enticing. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeal to all the senses. In the almost infinite reverberation, everything comes back into harmony as if by magic, leaving behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of blueberries, sliced strawberries and peaches. Full body and firm, chewy tannins that are polished and velvety in a refined way. Better after 2022." James Suckling

"The 2016 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is rich, sumptuous and elegant. Light on its feet yet also wonderfully deep and nuanced, the 2016 possesses off-the-charts resonance, energy and aromatic intensity. All the elements come together in a profoundly expressive Barolo endowed with tremendous class and pedigree. Ample, creamy and explosive, this is a wine of textural resonance and pure power." Vinous
