The single vineyard Falletto in Serralunga d'Alba is one of the centrepieces of the Barolo region. On steep, south-facing slopes, whose marl and sandstone soils store heat and contribute minerality, Nebbiolo matures here into wines of great structure and depth. The 2021 vintage is considered one of the best of the last decade: a stable summer with cool nights and sunny days allowed for long, even ripening and produced grapes of rare balance.
A dense garnet red colour with a light orange rim shines in the glass. The nose exudes a complex mosaic of sour cherry, plum, candied violets, dried herbs and sweet spices, underpinned by a fine note of aniseed and tobacco. On the palate, the wine impresses with its firm yet ripe tannin structure, which unfolds in a silky texture and precise lines. A lively, perfectly integrated acidity carries the juicy fruit and lends freshness and tension to the long, mineral-influenced final. A Falletto that combines the character of the vintage with the timeless elegance of this great site and has great ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"You can sense the hallmarks of an elegant vintage in the wonderfully direct and concentrated Bruno Giacosa 2021 Barolo Falletto. This beautiful wine offers bright berry fruit, blue flowers and crushed stone. It is a complete wine with an aromatic intensity that matches the depth of mouthfeel and structure." Wine Advocate
"Smooth in texture and full of finesse, this Barolo exudes aromas of raspberry, cherry, rose, iron, tar and spice, with a hint of liquorice. The dense, fine-grained tannins come to the fore on the long, languid finish. Lively and complex." Wine Spectator
"The Barolo Falletto 2021 is a rich, explosive wine that is intoxicating from the first sip. Spices, menthol, liquorice, camphor and dried herbs permeate the palate with captivating depth and nuance. With time in the glass, it opens up beautifully, revealing all the power and regal intensity these wines were once known for. Best of all, the 2021 will drink well with minimal cellaring time, as the tannins are already very polished. Outstanding." Vinous
"This is all about purity, with cherries, strawberries, spices, sandalwood, iodine, shells and black truffle on the nose. Full-bodied, but very balanced and focused, with a layering and verticality that goes on and on. The Nebbiolo character is intense and beautiful. Some pure fruit on the finish, with notes of flint and gunpowder." James Suckling
"The Falletto, which is made from vines with an average age of 35 years, is more flirtatious than showy. Red and blackcurrants form the background, from which iron, sage, bay leaf and liquorice root emerge. The elegance, polish and precision are impeccable, as is the immense freshness and racy acidity, which gives the wine vibrancy and energy. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, building steadily in dignified strength around a core of pulverised stone. Pressed rose and lilac fragrance on the finish." Decanter
