Conteisa comes from the Cerequio vineyard in La Morra. It is very expressive for its origin and opens with a beautiful floral fragrance of pressed roses and blue violets, followed by bright cherries, cassis, chopped mint, liquorice, tar, ginger and delicately smoked cedar. Its complexity is breathtaking. Conteisa glides effortlessly across the palate, and a refined austerity sets in at the back. SUPERIORE.DE
"A wine of character even at this young stage, with a multi-faceted nose of blackberries, orange zest and dried flowers; combines character and polish, the tannins are perfectly integrated, elegant and of great length. It even has upward potential." Vinum
"Bright, intense ruby garnet colour. Shows appealing notes of raspberry and cranberry on the nose, with light notes of iodine. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, showing gripping, dense tannins, extremely taut, with a graphite final." Falstaff
"This spicy, cherry-scented red wine offers a silky texture and an elegant profile with flavours of cherries, strawberries, eucalyptus, aniseed, iron and wild herbs, supported by a strong acidity. Overall balanced, with a long, resonant finish." Wine Spectator
"This Barolo opens with captivating aromas of cherries and ripe strawberries that intermingle with savory aromas of dried herbs and a touch of earthiness. The palate unveils a medley of baked cranberries and stewed spiced plums, complemented by sweet and savory spices. The firm and taut structure showcases the wine's inherent elegance and power, exemplifying the hallmark characteristics of the esteemed house and wine." Wine Enthusiast
"The Gaja 2020 Barolo Conteisa offers a subdued and unexpected elegance with great finesse and detail. One might expect more concentration and power from this hot vintage, but instead it shows complexity across a lower overall intensity threshold. The Conteisa with fruit from the Cerequio MGA shows a dark ruby red colour with vibrant notes of wild cherry, crushed mint, dusty limestone and pressed violets. The tannins are particularly elegant and fine." Wine Advocate
"This is a really tantalising wine with an open and lively character that immediately tells you it's a Barolo, but it's polished with sweet tannins. You want to taste and taste. It's medium to full-bodied with rounded tannins and a savoury finish. Juicy and very approachable now. It will be even better in a few years, but it's already hard to resist." James Suckling
