Barolo Brunate DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Deep, full red with a fine sheen. The La Morra edition from Vietti's famous Barolo family impresses with an impressive aroma of red berries, cherries, wild herbs, mint, minerals and rose petals, rounded off with a hint of blood orange. On the palate, it is opulent, full, with fine sweetness and structure, and the multilayered, long final is accompanied by almost aristocratic tannin. A typical Vietti Cru with a lot of class. SUPERIORE.DE

"Just mid ruby. Firm yet closed on the nose. Quite pure cherry on the palate followed by muscular but polished, coating tannins. Concentrated yet elegant and finely balanced. Powerfully structured finish with plenty of fruit to match." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Barolo Brunate is powerful and dense in the glass, with plenty of Brunate tannin that enshrouds the palate. Iron, smoke, grilled herb, menthol and spice notes add complexity to the dark, sepia-toned fruit. The 2015 is a baby. It will benefit from several years in bottle and then drink well to age 25-30, perhaps beyond. This is the first vintage made from Vietti's expanded holdings following the acquisition of a parcel that formerly went to Andrea Oberto." Vinous

"This savory red delivers balsamic aromas and flavors of wild rosemary, juniper, eucalyptus and tobacco, revolving around a core of cherry, strawberry, graphite and licorice notes. Firm and sinewy on the finish, with an aftertaste of ripe, sweet fruit. Excellent length." Wine Spectator

"This has a rather reserved nose with dried-herb, rosehip, potpourri and light cedary aromas, ahead of fragrant dried cherries. The palate has quite dense and smoothly rendered, ripe tannins that deliver a long, composed and approachable Barolo." James Suckling

"This is an explosive and absolutely exuberant expression of Nebbiolo from a vineyard site in La Morra near M. Marengo’s property. Vietti farms two parcels here, a higher side of the vineyard and a lower one (near Damilano and Ceretto). These lower parts of Brunate perform very nicely in the cooler vintages. Instead, this warm vintage expression puts a lot of its fruit depth and personality upfront in a confident and no-fuss manner. You absolutely know what you are getting here, even at the first sniff of the bouquet. The wine proceeds to open and blossom before your nose, offering dark fruit, rose, spice and a very linear mineral tone at the back. That linear flinty note is just terrific." Robert Parker

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is incredibly inviting from the very first taste. Silky and aromatic, the Rocche shows plenty of the classiness that is such a signature of this Castiglione Falletto site. As with all of these 2015s, readers will have to be patient. The 2015 gains striking volume and resonance with time in the glass, but a few years in bottle are an absolute must for the wine to show at its very best." Vinous

"A rich, almost opulent style, this Barolo delivers cherry, raspberry, plum and eucalyptus flavors on a base of stiff tannins. Turns vibrant and chewy, with a solid, minerally finish." Wine Spectator

"Along with the Ravera, the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione has a very fresh feeling (they are both grown with less direct sunlight). Indeed, there are many similarities between these two prestigious Barolos from Vietti, but the differences start with the vinification methods. While the Ravera sees malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the Rocche di Castiglione completes that phase in botte. To continue the comparison, these two wines are certainly more closed than the other Barolo crus from this producer, the Lazzarito and the Brunate, which blossom and open more quickly. Even though it is a bit shy, the defining characteristics of herbaceous rosemary and balsamic notes show up well in this vintage of the Rocche di Castiglione, a vineyard site that prizes elegance above all else." Robert Parker

"A hauntingly complex and finely detailed nose that touches so many different characters. Roses, dried wood, cedar, fine brown spices, light earthy notes, warm stones, mountain herbs and leaves. All here – very complex. The density and weight is exceptional, as is the fine, firm weave of tannins. The length is staggering and the tautness and balance are captivating. One of the stars of the vintage!" James Suckling

    • Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2015
MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Lazzarito impresses every year by its precision and class - two characteristics that are not often found in the Nebbiolo of the Serralunga region. Iron, smoke and white pepper flow into the nose, in the glass these impressions are extended by a touch of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange. Viettis Lazzarito always stands for strength and finesse and has been in no way inferior to his "colleagues" from Ravera and Rocche for quite some time. SUPERIORE.DE

"Just mid ruby. Dark and brooding nose of great depth. Generous and mouth-filling fruit and plenty of acidity adding freshness. A big layer of finely stitched tannins adds structure to the ripe fruit. Concentrated and deep." Jancis Robinson

"This powerful expression of an important Serralunga vineyard is aged both in barriques and large casks. It's deep in colour and shows lush, meaty aromas that at present lack finesse. It's very opulent and savoury on the palate, assertive without being astringent, and has imposing balance and length." Decanter

"The 2015 Barolo Lazzarito is one of the highlights in this range from Vietti. The power and gravitas of Serralunga come through loud and clear in a deep, beautifully resonant Barolo loaded with character. Iron, smoke, sage, menthol, licorice and rose petal give the Lazzarito its beguiling aromatic complexity. The massive tannins need time to soften, but there is a lot to look forward to once that happens." Vinous

"Rich and multifaceted, sporting cherry, raspberry, green tea, iron and tobacco flavors. The sweet fruit is matched to firm, dense tannins and the finish turns austere for now. Everything is in the right proportions, but patience is required." Wine Spectator

"This is a very youthful Barolo that has attractive, fragrant perfume with freshly picked roasting herbs and a strong, central thread of ripe cherries and red plums. The pure and concentrated palate frames intense plum and cherry flavors in long, unwavering tannins that deliver rich, strong and seamless into the finish. Exceptional quality and built for aging." James Suckling

"Opening to a beautifully floral bouquet, the 2015 Barolo Lazzarito delivers fragrant tones of violets, wild rose and a touch of orange blossom. As is the norm at Vietti, I tasted this wine and then wrote this review based on impressions gained from two samples—one opened several hours before my tasting and one opened at the moment of my review. Those floral notes came forth with increased intensity and clarity in the bottle that had been opened longer. The bouquet continues to surprise with touches of black fruit and freshly milled white pepper. However, like many wines from Serralunga d’Alba, this expression from Lazzarito reveals a pretty inner paradox. Those ethereal and balsamic aromas cede to a dense and rich mouthfeel, characterized by structure and power. Those two sides of the wine reach beautiful parity and lasting harmony." Robert Parker

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2015
MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Viettis Ravera is one of the great stars of Piedmont in its precision and structure. Rose petals, chalk, pepper and a hint of pomegranate make this Barolo one of the most sought-after appellations every year. With a little storage maturity, the strong tannins give way to an elegant appearance that does not deviate one millimetre from the coveted style of this large site. A monument to Barolo, which apart from Vietti and Giacosa, only a few other Piedmontese winegrowers bring into the bottle with such consistency! SUPERIORE.DE

"This red is full of sweet ripe plum, cherry and tar flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. Thick, dusty tannins coat the gums and put a clamp on the finish for now, but this shows potential." Wine Spectator

"The beautifully fragrant roses are impossible to resist. This oozes charm. Also, there are red cherries, cocoa powder and an array of wild herbs in the mix. The palate has toned yet muscular tannins that build nicely to deliver a concentrated core of ripe red-cherry flavor that holds long, fresh and youthful. Great Barolo." James Suckling

"The 2015 Barolo Ravera is once again the head of the class at Vietti. Bright, sculpted and wonderfully nuanced, the Ravera is very pretty. Floral aromatics and the pointed, brilliant fruit that is such a Ravera signature are very much in evidence. Hints of blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and flowers add shades of complexity as the 2015 gradually opens up in the glass. This is one of the finer wines of the year. Don't miss it!" Vinous

"Starting off a bit shy and closed at first, the 2015 Barolo Ravera showed noticeably better in the sample that had been opened a few hours prior to my arrival at the winery for my annual visit. This makes perfect sense as Vietti’s wines are intentionally slow at first but are built to endure the long haul. From the Novello township, this vineyard site is recognized for it power, structure and the uniquely broad approach it shows to the palate. There is a larger span of black fruit at its core. The positioning of the Ravera cru means it is open to the elements and the cold air from the Alps, and the wines result in freshness and mineral character as well. Luca Currado describes a salty, anchovy-like aroma that does indeed appear. Otherwise, this wine shows tightly polished and glossy tannins." Robert Parker

Barolo “Le Vigne” DOCG 2015 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

The bouquet opens wide with aromas of fresh red fruits and a delicate spicy note. On the palate very intense, remarkably elegant, fine-grained tannins, extremely clear, structured and long. Splendid! SUPERIORE.DE

"Tasted blind. Dark ruby with orange tinges. A little reductive, herbal and closed. Shy but concentrated on the palate, too. There is great balance between brooding perfumed fruit, tangy acidity and coating tannins indicating this has loads of potential, but is not ready yet." Jancis Robinson

"Distinctive aromas of freshly mowed hay, blood orange and cherry mark this supple, elegant and vibrant Barolo. Tightens up on the finish, but chalk that up to youthful exuberance. Stretches out nicely on the finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Barolo Le Vigne is a wine of pure and extreme grace. Silky and nuanced on the palate, with tremendous character, the 2015 is all class. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berry fruit are laced together in this super-expressive Barolo. Medium in body, with radiant fruit and brisk tannins, the 2015 Le Vigne is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. Today, the 2015 is decidedly reticent. I have seen Le Vigne open up with time in bottle. I imagine that will be the case here as well, although the wine is quite closed down at this stage." Vinous

"Luciano Sandrone expected this would be a beautiful year for Nebbiolo, with fruit showing the qualities of an important wine all throughout the growing season and right up to harvest. And yes, the 2015 Barolo le Vigne did turn out to be a great vintage, with a full aromatic array of perfumed rose, lavender and violet. For all of its generosity and expressiveness, with just a beautiful bouquet that sings out a seductive mezzo-soprano aria, be forewarned that in the mouth this is followed by rigidity and nervousness. That explosive bouquet might mislead you into thinking this is a rather evolved wine, but you certainly feel its youth on the palate." Robert Parker

"Ripe black-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, ground clove and star anise lead the way on this full-bodied red. The smooth, tightly knit palate offers succulent black cherry, cranberry compote, coconut and espresso alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. A licorice note graces the finish." Wine Enthusiast

"A tight and focused Le Vigne with strawberry, orange-peel and floral aromas and hints of hazelnuts. Not giving it all now. Full-bodied, very intense and focused. Extremely long and polished, tannic finish." James Suckling

Single vineyard Barolo Ravera from 40 to 50 year old vines has a pure and intense fragrance of raspberries, strawberries and flowers. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, beautiful fruit, super-fine tannins and a wonderful length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Pale young garnet; aromas of strawberry, rosemary and dried red currant. Medium-full with very good to excellent concentration. Ideal ripeness, beautiful Nebbiolo purity, very good acidity, beautifully balanced tannins, subtle wood notes. Attractive notes of sage and thyme in the finish. Excellent expression of site, marvelous complexity and impressive winemaking combine to make this a very distinctive offering. Enjoyable now, with another two or three years in the bottle recommended." Forbes

"Beautifully lifted, perfumed and concentrated. Almost an explosion of fresh, crushed, sweet, red fruit. Great purity of fruit with firm tannins that never dominate. Vibrant acidity and succulence on a full, tannic, yet endlessly fine palate." Jancis Robinson

"The 2016 Barolo Ravera shows all of the energy and tension this site is so well-known for. Penetrating acids and veins of tannin give the Ravera its drive and overall feel. Naturally, the 2016 is going to need at least a few years to be at its best, but it has tremendous breeding and character to burn. White pepper, mint, sweet red cherry and citrus add to the wine's high-toned profile. This is another stellar wine from Cogno." Vinous

Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” DOCG 2014 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Dark cherries, menthol, flowers and tar are just some of the classic notes in the complex bouquet of Bricco Pernice from the single vineyard Ravera. On the palate, the austere structure and the great power are joined by a fine inner sweetness. In the long finish memories of damp earth, dried herbs and wild flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"Cardinal ruby with orange tinges. Savoury and distinctly minerally, still tight and compact on the nose. Immediate unity of savoury fruit, minerally and the directness and long, mouth-filling tannic tension that reminds me of Vigna Rionda. Really young, tightly wound and yet succulent." Jancis Robinson

"This has some good depth for 2014 with darker cherries delivering a stronger impression. The aromas of fresh fruit are lightly spiced and lead to a palate that has a firm and slightly chewy edge." James Suckling

"This red is juicy, offering cherry, raspberry, earth, tobacco and tar flavors. Dense tannins lend support as this stretches out nicely on the finish. Sleek and almost racy in style, with tobacco and mineral elements lingering." Wine Spectator

"The 2014 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is full and soft with great fruit density. This is a nicely balanced wine that shows more intensity than I might have expected from this cool vintage that generally produced thinner wines in comparison. There is sweet, supple spice on the close. This elegant Barolo would go nicely with a beef and pork shank cassoulet. The wine has the fiber to age beautifully, but it will also show nicely in the medium-term, for those looking for a more accessible Barolo." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Bricco Pernice is vivid, precise and flat-out stunning. Like the best wines of the year, the Bricco Pernice is going to need a bit of time to be at its very best. I find the wine's inner perfume and sweetness to be utterly beguiling. At the same time, the Bricco Pernice remains taut, classically austere and in need of cellaring." Vinous

This is why I will dedicate this special wine to my grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. From now on, it will carry their names." Luciano Sandrone on his intention to rename his world-famous Barolo Cannubi Boschis "Aleste" in 2013.

This Barolo is in every respect a masterpiece of Luciano Sandrone. Not only historical product but also only Cru of the house from the famous area Cannubi in Barolo. Rich ruby, balsamic bouquet, ripe and sweet. On the palate with great smoothness, much fruit, denser tannins, very persistent finale with Burgundian elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with a garnet shimmer. Fine and fragrant nose with notes of ripe, dark cherries and plums, in the background cloves and cinnamon. Fine-meshed, polished tannin on the palate, spreading very clear and straight, juicy, long aftertaste, with hints of cranberries." Falstaff

"Aleste used to be known as Cannubi Boschis, its vineyard of origin, but has been renamed in honour of Luciano Sandrone's grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. The nose is a model of refinement and purity, with ripe and intense red fruits. Although medium-bodied, it's threaded with fine tannins and good acidity. This spicy, lively and long tonneaux-aged wine is no blockbuster, but should age well." Decanter

"A firm and silky red with plum and berry character. Hints of spices and dark chocolate, too. Medium to full body. Powerful and structured. Needs three or four years to soften." James Suckling

"This is the second year Aleste is produced instead of Cannubi Boschis, however the grapes are exactly the same. The 2014 Barolo Aleste is named after Luciano Sandrone's grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. The 2014 is still wound up and will require extra time to find its footing. The Sandrone family lost 25% of their fruit production in this challenging harvest. The wine offers fragrant notes of wild cherry and cassis with smoke, crushed stone and candied orange peel. The tannins are firm and textured. It is the palate (more than the nose) that requires more time to soften." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Aleste is a wine of exquisite finesse and grace. Soft, understated and classy, it is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. Bright red cherry and red plum fruit give the wine its vibrant feel. In 2014, the Aleste is decidedly medium-bodied and restrained, especially compared to recent past vintages. Readers should keep in mind that Aleste is the new name for the Cannubi Boschis Barolo." Antonio Galloni

"The cherry and strawberry aromas are tinged by hay and tobacco notes. On the palate, the core of fruit is joined by a chorus of herb, tobacco and underbrush flavors. Aggressively tannic now, but well-proportioned and long." Wine Specator

"Dried rose, blue flower, aromatic herb, wild berry and a whiff of pipe tobacco are just some of the aromas you'll find on this stunning red. It's elegant and structured, delivering raspberry compote, crushed strawberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in bright acidity and firm fine-grained tannins. It has fantastic tension and energy, and promises to age well for years." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo "Falletto Vigna Le Rocche" Riserva DOCG 2014

Barolo “Falletto Vigna Le Rocche” Riserva DOCG 2014

Giacosa's Barolo Le Rocche is only vinified in the best vintages as Riserva (red label) and has a magical attraction for Nebbiolo lovers all over the world.

The vintage 2014, which has just been released, is once again a 360° beauty with impressive intensity and complexity. This wine never seems heavy or flat, but with its indescribable elegance it once again sets the benchmark in Piedmontese viticulture. Its energy carries it into spheres that have no equal. A cornucopia of rose petals, exotic spices, truffles and undergrowth leaves a unique fingerprint even before the almost endless finish, as only Giacosa's Riserva can do. SUPERIORE.DE

"Giacosa's Riservas are among the most prized wines in Piedmont, and even in this difficult vintage the property made an outstanding wine from this vineyard in Serralunga. As always, the nose is incredibly perfumed, showing ripe raspberry fruit but also violets. The purity and poise are remarkable. There's a fine attack, ample concentration of course, and polished tannins balanced by fine acidity. It's taut and refined yet has remarkable volume for 2014 and excellent length." Decanter

"This red label Riserva was made in 2012 and 2014 and will be released in 2016 and 2017. Bruna Giacosa and her team skipped over 2013 and 2015. However, the current release is the 2014 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche, and well, there's a lot to take in. Simply put, this is a beautiful wine that unfolds slowly with amazing intensity and complexity, delivering delicate notes of violets and candied orange peel that cede softly to darker tones of licorice, dried blackberry and savory spice. Give the wine the time it needs to open in the glass. This vintage flaunts its most elegant side, with fine tannins and soft fruity fiber that remains everlasting and pure. This estate is known for taking its biggest chances in the so-called off vintages. Betting on 2014 has turned out to be a brilliantly contemplated move." Robert Parker

"The aromas are so seductive with dried roses and berries. Tar and asphalt, too. Full bodied, very tight and powerful. Lean and long tannins. It goes on for so long. Stops and then starts over again. A curious and challenging young wine. Great." James Suckling

    • Barolo Ravera "Bricco Pernice" DOCG 2015
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Dark cherries, menthol, flowers and tar are just some of the classic notes in the complex bouquet of Bricco Pernice from the single vineyard Ravera. On the palate, the austere structure and great power are joined by a fine inner sweetness. The long finish evokes memories of damp earth, dried herbs and wild flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby. Lots of depth and richness, yet at the same time sleek. Sweet, crushed red fruit run through by a spicy vein. Gorgeous succulent fruit, great focus and length and full spread on the finish with bags of ripe, grainy tannins. Endlessly long and succulent." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Barolo Bricco Pernice is an exotic, beguiling wine. Blood orange, mint, sweet red cherry, star anise and a range of spice notes give the Bricco Pernice striking aromatic and flavor complexity. Medium in body, refined and super-expressive, the 2015 has so much to offer. Best of all, it will drink well with just a few years in bottle. It is such an effortless, gracious wine. Very polished, nuanced and elegant, this silky Barolo has a ton of structure but is also impeccable in its balance." Vinous

    • Barolo "Le Vigne" DOCG 2012
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo “Le Vigne” DOCG 2012 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Le Vigne is a splendid Barolo of Sandrone. The bouquet opens wide with aromas of fresh red fruits and a delicate spicy note. On the palate very intense, remarkably elegant, fine-grained tannins, extremely clear, structured and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense ruby with a garnet edge. Clear and intense nose, after ripe cherries, fine blackberry, some orange compote. Velvety and round in the base and course, builds up in many layers, much fine-meshed tannin, very polished, long reverberation, a great pleasure! Falstaff

"Delicate, mature color, little orange rim. Delicate and delicate also in the fragrance, with seductive sweetness and fine wood nuances as well as graphite; deep herb spice with fine, ripe fruit. Very broad in the mouth, multi-layered and balanced, very melty in the base, with noble tannins. On the other hand, it is Burgundian and delicate, with a fine-grained tannin structure, long and red berry clear in the aftertaste." Weinwisser

"Purity of fruit and balance here is very impressive. Firm and very silky tannins with a long, long finish that gives the wine amazing depth and intensity. Love the spicy and dense fruit character at the end of the palate." James Suckling

"A hint of oak lends this a spicy component, along with cherry, licorice and tar flavors. Racy and bright, with fine intensity and a long, tightly wound finish that seems to go on forever. Shows beautiful purity and class." Wine Spectator

"The Luciano Sandrone 2012 Barolo le Vigne shows the trademark ripeness that I so often identify in this historic product. The bouquet is round and plush with thick layers of dark cherry marmalade, blackberry preserves and dark currant. Beyond those apparent fruit aromas, Le Vigne offers dark spice and licorice with a beautiful menthol signature on the finish. The wine's natural structure is padded by soft tannins and lush fruit consistency." Robert Parker
