Barolo “Villero” Riserva DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC

A powerhouse of a special kind and at the same time of a probably unique beauty. Every year Villero is an overwhelming interpretation of the otherwise strict Nebbiolo grape, which shows a kaleidoscope of life and power. Dark leather, dried rose petals, then some candied fruit and dried herbs play together with a subtle minerality to a symphony concert, which is guaranteed to be a lasting memory. Meditation meets highest pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

"Vietti’s 2012 Barolo Riserva Villero is absolutely gorgeous. In 2012, the Villero is especially lifted and aromatic, showing a distinctly floral and red-toned expression of fruit rather than the darker, more balsamic inflections that are typical of this Castiglione Falletto cru. Light on its feet, fresh and graceful to its core, the Villero is another terrific wine from Vietti in 2012. Veins of Villero tannin and bright acids give the wine energy, vibrancy and tons of character. More than anything else, though, the 2012 Villero is a very clear continuation of a stylistic evolution that can be traced to the 2010 Barolo Ravera in which the Barolos are now made in a more traditional style than in the past, which includes malolactic fermentation in cask rather than barrique. In 2012, that approach was not in place for all the Barolos, but it is very much evident here." Vinous

"This is the 13th edition that Vietti has come out with, over the span of 38 years, of this stunning Riserva, a wine that ultimately is produced only about once every four years or so. However, the wine holds its own as one of the most beautiful in the entire appellation and one of the best in the somewhat lackluster vintage. Balsamic and truffle notes pepper the palate of this handsome Barolo. Some 3,300 bottles of this vintage were made." Robert Parker

    • Barbaresco Crichët Pajé DOCG 2010 <br> MAGNUM in OWC

Barbaresco Crichët Pajé DOCG 2010 · MAGNUM in OWC

"Transparent ruby with a chimney red rim. The ethereal perfume of a complete Arab bazaar with colourful cloths, incense sticks and brightly coloured, piled up exotic spices comes directly to mind when you stick your nose into the 2010 Barbaresco Crichët Pajé. Frankincense and myrrh, sandalwood and noble cedar wood exude an Odeur like in 1001 Nights. Spicy notes of cloves, pimento, nutmeg blossoms and pepper are mixed with cherries, laurel and raspberry jelly, currant leaves and floral top notes of orange blossom complete the pleasure. In Antrunk, Crichët Pajé presents itself with great tranquillity in constant flow. Nothing is cheeky or exuberant here, but radiates noble elegance - an equilibrium in perfect balance. The aromatic overflowing nose is disciplined on the palate by the long, calm flow of the focused, cool acidity, on whose banks fully ripe and fine-grained tannins entwine. Silky with almost aristocratic noblesse, its enormous complexity is revealed in the second sip as the aromas begin to defoliate in epic reverberation like a massive win-zip file. A wine for today, for tomorrow and for many, many more years. Undisputed world class." Sebastian Bordthäuser (Sommelier and wine-journalist)

"A ripe, savory style, with a fruit profile that leans toward cherry and plum compote flavors, accented by coffee, soy, tar and mineral notes, all supported by a dense layer of chunky tannins. Despite the mature fruit profile, this is surprisingly fresh on the finish, with excellent length. Still a youngster, this should age for decades." Wine Spectator

"The 2010 Barbaresco Crichët Pajè is one of the most captivating and arrestingly beautiful wines I have ever tasted from Roagna. Intense, penetrating Nebbiolo aromatics make a strong opening statement before the 2010 literally takes over all the sense. Medium in body and yet also remarkably deep. Rose petal, kirsch, dried herbs, hard candy, mint and sweet spice develop in the glass, but it is the wine's sense of harmony that really stands out. The 2010 spent five years in cask (one less than normal), a choice that paid off handsomely." Antonio Galloni

Barbaresco Crichët Pajé DOCG 2011 · MAGNUM in OWC

"Transparent ruby red with a chimney red fading rim. Spicy notes of cloves, allspice, mace and pepper mingle with cherries, bay and raspberry jelly, currant leaves and floral top notes of orange blossom complete the delight. On the palate, Crichët Pajé presents itself with great calm in a steady flow. Nothing is brash or exuberant here, but shines with distinguished elegance - an equilibrium in perfect balance. The aromatically exuberant nose is disciplined on the palate by the long, calm flow of focused, cool acidity, on whose shores fully ripe and fine-grained tannins entwine. Silky with an almost aristocratic nobility, its enormous complexity is revealed in the second sip when the flavors begin to unravel in the epic finish like a massive Win-Zip file. A wine for today, for tomorrow and for many, many more years to come. Undisputedly world class." Sebastian Bordthäuser (Sommelier und Wein-Journalist)

"Made with extremely old vines, the youngest of which are over 60 years old and most much older, this opens with aromas of new leather, scorched earth, underbrush and balsamic notes of camphor. Concentrated and boasting a great depth of flavors, the structured, full-bodied palate delivers raspberry compote, dried black cherry, carob and hazelnut alongside firm, enveloping tannins. Another compelling wine from the estate." Wine Enthusiast

"This red is full of mulled plum, cherry, menthol, stone and spice flavors. Concentrated yet fluid, with a tightly packed finish. Well-balanced and approachable now if decanted." Wine Spectator

"It's easy to fall into the cult of Crichët Pajé. The wine's name means "little hill" in Piemontese dialect, and the winemaking process is carefully weighed and contemplated. The Roagna 2011 Barbaresco Crichët Pajé is fermented with indigenous yeasts, with submerged cap and sees eight long years of aging in both oak and cement. Fruit is drawn from a half-hectare, south-facing parcel high on the Pajé slope that has been farmed by this family since 1953. The bouquet reveals wild berry fruit, rose hip, cedar, crushed stone, smoke and licorice. This expression is lightweight in texture, yet it expertly balances a full load of aromas and flavors on that small frame. The heat of the vintage has not hurt the freshness or the sharpness that you perceive here." Robert Parker

"Just bottled, the 2011 Barbaresco Crichët Pajè is unbelievably refined. Sweet red cherry, rosewater, mint, dried flowers, pine and kirsch give the 2011 an upper register of perfume that is utterly beguiling. Silky and classy to the core, the 2011 is the most sensual Crichët Pajè I can remember tasting. There is plenty of tannin, that is clear, but it is also pretty much buried by the sheer luxuriousness of the fruit. This is such a gorgeous and complete wine. There is just an unreal amount of freshness for this dry, torrid year. Wow!!" Vinous
