“Vernaiolo” Chianti DOCG 2024
Vernaiolo is one of the oldest members of the Rocca delle Macìe family and has always been the estate's most traditional example of Chianti. Its name is derived from the Latin vernāle, which means "of spring" and indicates the season in which the Chianti was bottled after it had survived the winter. Even today, this lively, ruby-red wine is ready to drink in the spring after the harvest and retains its fresh and fruity characteristics for a long time.

Cetamura – an uncomplicated but never banal everyday wine with a Ligurian name: The Etruscans once settled on the land that is now part of Tenuta Badia a Coltibuono – and so the name Cetamura also comes from that era. Since 1988, the wine has been selectively vinified from the best Sangiovese grapes with the aim of achieving a lively profile that is also suitable for everyday drinking. Bright ruby red in the glass. The nose reveals juicy cherry, red berries and floral accents, with a subtle spiciness in the background. The palate is fresh and soft with fine fruit and a pleasant structure, rounded off by a clean acidity and lively freshness. A harmonious, uncomplicated Chianti – perfect for pasta, pizza or relaxed enjoyment in good company. SUPERIORE.DE

Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG 2023
Far from the fame of the Vino Nobile vineyards, this Chianti was created in the "Pozzi" vineyards, where Federico Carletti ventured an oenological experiment. At an altitude of 350 to 450 metres, with a view of the famous San Biagio church, densely planted Sangiovese vines thrive on stony clay soils of almost skeletal permeability. Ninety-five per cent Sangiovese blends with five per cent other Tuscan varieties to create a Chianti of uncompromising authenticity. Six months in stainless steel preserve the youthful freshness of this DOCG composition, which Federico deliberately conceived as an alternative to modern velvet gloves.

Lively ruby red in the glass with a youthful brilliance. Mainly Sangiovese with small additions of Canaiolo, Colorino and Malvasia Nera are harvested between the end of September and the beginning of October, partly by hand. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks at 28-30°C with a 25-day maceration period. Maturation lasts 12 months in 25-litre French oak barrels and concrete vats.

The name says it all: Due lame – two terraces – refers to the extreme altitude range of the vineyards between 420 and 655 metres. These are the highest Sangiovese vineyards in the whole of Tuscany, arroccati on the mineral-rich steps that gave the village of Lamole its name. The ochre-coloured "Macigno Toscano" soils, interspersed with Galestro and Alberese, give the wine its characteristic sharpness and elegance. The winery in the heart of Chianti Classico has been part of the Santa Margherita Group (Herita Wines) since 1993 and vinifies in the historic cellars of a Castello dating back to 1350. The grapes undergo optical selection, ferment in stainless steel with 7-10 days of maceration and mature on the lees until late winter. A short maturation in large oak barrels rounds off the process.

Radda in Chianti is one of the coolest municipalities in the appellation. Here, at an altitude of 400 metres, where dense forests surround the vineyards and stone-walled country lanes run through the hills, Sangiovese thrives in ideal conditions. The strong day-night temperature fluctuations give the grapes the freshness and aromatic clarity that make Radda wines unmistakable. Castello di Radda has been cultivating its vineyards in a fully certified organic way since 2020, with each parcel vinified separately and only brought together at the time of blending. The cuvée of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo is destemmed after manual harvesting and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins lasts two to three weeks – this is made possible by the perfect physiological ripeness of the grapes. Malolactic fermentation takes place in both steel and wood before the wine matures partly in 500-litre Liters and partly in 20-hectolitre French and Slavonian oak barrels. Several months of bottle ageing round off the harmonious development.

“Ruspoli” Chianti Classico DOCG 2024 (BIO)
When a princess decided to bottle wine in 1958, she didn't do it just like that, but with ambition. Eleonora Ruspoli Berlingieri, who brought the historic Lilliano estate near Castellina in Chianti into family ownership back in 1920, was the first to recognise the oenological potential of this location. At her side: Giulio Gambelli, legendary Sangiovese guru and one of the great interpreters of Tuscan wines. Today, the brothers Giulio and Pietro Ruspoli carry on the legacy – the family still resides in the historic Palazzo Ruspoli in the heart of Rome. The Chianti Classico, which is named after them, comes from around 40 hectares of vineyards on calcareous, stony Alberese soils, which delay the ripening of the grapes at an altitude of around 300 metres and thus preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. The organically farmed vineyards produce a cuvée of 90 per cent Sangiovese, supplemented by five per cent each of Colorino and Merlot – a classic blend that complies with the DOCG statute and emphasises the typicality of the zone.

“Maggiolo” Chianti Classico DOCG 2023 (BIO)
In May, when the iris – tuscan "giaggiolo" – the vineyards of Lamole are bathed in violet light, the soul of this wine is revealed. The name Maggiolo was born from the fusion of flower and month: a Chianti Classico that expresses the sunny generosity of the altitudes between 420 and 655 metres in liquid form. Unlike the purist Duelame, Maggiolo is a blend of 80% Sangiovese with 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. After visual berry selection, the grapes ferment separately in stainless steel. The Sangiovese matures for 18 months in large oak barrels, the international varieties in barriques – a marriage that combines structure and suppleness.

“Tolaini” Chianti Classico DOCG 2024 (BIO)
Tolaini is reorganising its Chianti Classico line with the 2024 vintage: The previous Vallenuova Annata will be promoted to Riserva, to be replaced by this entry into the house – named after the winery itself. The grapes come from the vineyards around the estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the southernmost corner of Chianti Classico, where silty-clayey soils with limestone and stones characterise the Sangiovese.

Chianti & Chianti Classico - Red wines with tradition from Tuscany.
Few people know what the many differences between Chianti and Chianti Classico are. The production area of the Chianti DOCG zone covers about half of Tuscany, with altitudes ranging from 50 to 700 metres. But those who talk about Chianti usually mean the core area, the landscape between Florence and Siena, with its picturesque historical centres, well-decorated country houses, morbid castles and renowned wineries, through which the picturesque Strada Chiantigiana meanders. Here excellent red wines from experienced and highly awarded winegrowers are produced. The list of famous wineries is long, here you can find the wonderful wines of Ricasoli, Castellare, Castello di Ama, Felsina, Fonterutoli, Fontodi, Isole e Olena, Rocca delle Macie, Rocca di Montegrossi and many others.
In Chianti, the famous Sangiovese grape variety shows all its style of fine acidity and elegance.
It is the most important grape in Chianti Classico and there is hardly an Italian grape that is so versatile. It is not only the base for Chianti and Chianti Classico, but also for the noblest Brunello (Sangiovese Grosso) and Vino Nobile (Prugnolo Gentile). However, the Chiantis production area is much larger and stretches from the hills north of Florence to the west and east along the Arno river and to the south it also includes the areas around the famous wine villages of Montalcino and Montepulciano. To the east, the area is bordered by the splendid Monti del Chianti, which merge into the Apennines.
Between the vineyards of the entire cultivation zone Romanesque churches stand – known as Pievi – and the castles of Florentine and Sienese warlords. All in all, the six provinces of Arezzo, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena, with more than a hundred towns and municipalities, belong to the large area.
