Radda in Chianti is one of the coolest municipalities in the appellation. Here, at an altitude of 400 metres, where dense forests surround the vineyards and stone-walled country lanes run through the hills, Sangiovese thrives in ideal conditions. The strong day-night temperature fluctuations give the grapes the freshness and aromatic clarity that make Radda wines unmistakable. Castello di Radda has been cultivating its vineyards in a fully certified organic way since 2020, with each parcel vinified separately and only brought together at the time of blending. The cuvée of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo is destemmed after manual harvesting and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins lasts two to three weeks – this is made possible by the perfect physiological ripeness of the grapes. Malolactic fermentation takes place in both steel and wood before the wine matures partly in 500-litre Liters and partly in 20-hectolitre French and Slavonian oak barrels. Several months of bottle ageing round off the harmonious development.
Intense ruby red with garnet-coloured reflections. The bouquet is typical of the variety with aromas of violets, balsamic notes and hints of graphite. This is accompanied by wild berries and a hint of dried herbs. The wine is harmonious and juicy on the palate, with lively acidity and fine, slightly grainy tannins. The finish is characterised by ripe plum notes – a Chianti Classico that authentically reflects the coolness and elegance of its origins and at the same time shows off the territorial identity of Radda SUPERIORE.DE
"Light, bright ruby red colour. Lots of ripe fruit on the nose, cherry and cassis, plus liquorice and earthy notes. Smooth on the palate with sweet fruit flavours, youthful, fine tannins, fresh through to the juicy finish." Falstaff
"The estate's Annata comes from the vineyards surrounded by woods in the cool areas of Radda and smells of forest, juniper, eucalyptus and leather. On the palate, it is somewhat more opulent than the nose suggests. However, the racy acidity emphasises the purity of the raspberry. Limey tannins linger on the finish. There's just something about this wine that makes me want to savour a well-seasoned game stew." Decanter
"Raspberries, sour cherries and walnuts on the nose. Some citrus peel. It is crisp, lively and dense, with a medium body and slightly grainy tannins." James Suckling
