Rocche di Castiglione is prized for its pure white, chalky soils, which produce wines of exceptional finesse and a wide range of flavours. For lovers of timeless Nebbiolo, it is a real hit. The vines are located not far from the winery, which blends into the stone walls and urban fabric of the village of Castiglione Falletto. The vineyard is about one hectare in size. Rocche di Castiglione is a curiously shaped and elongated MGA with a unique south-east exposure along a steep ravine, with Bussia to the west and Perno to the east. This site is characterised by freshness, extreme precision, straightforwardness, structure and balanced freshness.

Alfredo Currado made history in 1961. Together with Prunotto's Bussia, Vietti released the first single-vineyard Barolo of the modern era – rocche di Castiglione. Since then, this vineyard has been inextricably linked with the name Vietti. Rocche is located in Castiglione Falletto directly opposite the winery, on the most exposed ridge in the municipality: soils from both geological eras – tortonian and Serravalian – in rare stratification on top of each other, exposed to the south to south-west, 250 to 320 metres. A transitional location between the elegance of the western communes and the vigour of the Serralunga style. The result is a Barolo with an aristocratic bearing – superbly structured without ever boasting about it. Maceration for 20 days, malolactic fermentation in used barriques, 24 months in large wooden barrels. In 2022, Vietti harvested earlier than usual – the Rocche holds heat differently than the lower-lying vineyards and required different decisions.

Ravera is located in the south-western corner of the appellation, in Novello – the coolest of all Barolo communes, where the wind from the Cottian Alps blows through the valleys and gives the Nebbiolo the freshness it needs in the hot summers of the Langhe. Ever since Elvio Cogno recognised the potential of this site, Ravera has been regarded as one of the most exciting crus in the entire Barolo region – and Vietti is one of the houses that has redefined its style compass with Ravera. Tortonian soils, calcareous marl, more sand than in Serralunga – this results in a texture of independent elegance. The vines face south-east, harvesting the morning sun and enjoying the cooling Alpine winds in the afternoon. 2022 was not an easy year here: the drought required precise cultivation and careful selection. Vietti harvested earlier than usual – and received grapes of unusual clarity in return.

Ravera, located in the municipality of Novello, is one of the best Barolo vineyards that continues to surprise and impress despite the changing climate. Thanks to the high altitude and the open view of the snow-capped mountains, the microclimate is well ventilated but at the same time protected. Freshly cut flowers, white pepper and mint energise a wine that is now very shy and tightly wound. Vietti's Brunate parcels are located on the La Morra side of the cru site. It was fermented in stainless steel and then transferred directly to large oak barrels for ageing. Barolo Brunate is a powerful and vertical wine, endowed with enormous explosive energy and intensity. It offers engaging and penetrating aromas of cedar wood, red cherry, blood orange, sage flowers and rose. On the palate, its austere personality is evident and any connoisseur will realise that it needs a few more years in the bottle to develop. Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2022
Lazzarito is located in Serralunga d'Alba – the eastern municipality that has the most decisive say in Barolo geography. The soils are Serravalian: compact sandstone, quartz-rich sand, little fertility, but a mineral structure that gives the Nebbiolo depth and tannin density that cannot be found elsewhere. Lazzarito is located in the northern part of Serralunga, exposed to the south-west at 330 to 380 metres above sea level – a vineyard that keeps the sun for a long time and uses the cool autumn nights for aromatic ripening. 2022 was a particular test in Serralunga: drought, early harvest, vineyards that reacted to the heat. Vietti harvested the grapes in the second half of September – three to four days of cold maceration, then 20 days of maceration under immersion conditions, malolactic fermentation in used barriques, 24 months in large wooden barrels.

Barolo Cerequio comes from vines that are over 35 years old. The vineyards were acquired by Michele Chiarlo in the 2010s through fortunate circumstances. Opens with aromas of freshly halved cherries, which are joined by a mixture of cloves, allspice and vanilla, while fresh roses are almost close at hand. On the palate, concentrated and lush plums and mixed berries, while black tea, liquorice and subtle earthy flavours gradually emerge. In the mid-palate, the tannins are still clearly noticeable, but with a little time all parts will be in balance. Vietti's Brunate parcels are located on the La Morra side of the cru site. It was fermented in stainless steel and then transferred directly to large oak barrels to mature. Vietti's Brunate 2021 shows blue flowers, wild berries, wild cherry and truffle-infused earth. It reveals a slender but open-knit quality that can be felt in the mouth. This softness or textural silkiness continues for many long minutes with hints of mint, liquorice and camphor ash carefully distributed along the way. The tannins are polished and long. Very elegant. First bottled in 1967, Roncaglie (formerly Barbaresco Masseria) comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. Since the 2018 vintage, it now comes from a small parcel that used to belong to the Socré Barbaresco winery and is now deliberately released a year later to ensure greater harmony and balance. Floral and spicy notes merge with a core of rich, generous fruit in a generous Barbaresco based on pure resonance. Barbaresco Roncaglie is vinified and matured in the same way as Vietti's single-vineyard Barolos. This means long fermentation, six months in French oak and more than two years in barrique. The grapes come from the single vineyard MGA Rabajà in the municipality of Barbaresco. 2019 is a retro vintage, so to speak, as it marks a return for Vietti, who vinified Rabajà back in the 1980s. The soils are calcareous and clayey, with a south/south-west exposure and an altitude of around 235-315 metres above sea level. The average age of the vines is 51 years and they are cultivated according to the Guyot system. Intense garnet red colour. Opulent and delicate on the nose with floral scents of rosehips and violets and ripe black cherry. Amazingly fresh and enveloping for a mature Riserva from the very first sip. The tannins are ripe, soft, silky and wonderfully integrated, giving the wine a great structure and elegance. What completely won us over during the tasting was the almost immeasurable length of the wine, which is still resonating as we write this. Complimenti! SUPERIORE.DE

Rabajà is the most fleshy, full-bodied terroir in Barbaresco. The name has appeared in the archives of Piedmont for centuries – time and again as a reference for exceptional Nebbiolo from the south-western amphitheatre above Martinenga, where the slopes fall towards the Tanaro and the soils of calcareous blue clay with sand inclusions give the Nebbiolo a rare combination of fullness and freshness. Hardly anyone owns land here; Vietti holds just under half a hectare – 2021 was an exceptional year for Barbaresco: "Ottobrate" (golden October days) in the truest sense of the word, even ripeness, cool nights well into October, 25 days of maceration more than in other vintages – more than in other vintages because the quality allowed it. Then around 30 months in large oak barrels.
