“Biserno” Toscana IGT 2020
Unique Supertuscan made from Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A ripe bouquet of dark fruit and excellently integrated, spicy oak notes, with a delicious hint of freshly ground coffee and cocoa. Powerful elegance, great finesse, polished tannins and admirable independence on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Smells wild - herbal and beautifully floral on the nose with ripe blackberry flavours. Round and supple, full-bodied and structured with fleshy tannins that also have a cool, chalky mineral edge that adds some minerality and freshness to the palate that balances the ripe, sweet black and blue fruits. I like the lingering powdery element and this wine has a certain spiciness and sophistication - cool blue fruits, cola, vanilla, cedar and toast. I find it hard to categorise it as Tuscan, as it smells and tastes more like an old-school Bordeaux or a Californian wine. Massive, heavy, with lots of oak and extraction." Decanter
"The nose captures the wistfulness of one last warm autumn day, with aromas of vanilla and berries floating above an herbal, woody earthiness. On the palate, the berries and herbs swirl together into a mocha finish, but contoured tannins and notable acid balance the fruit." Wine Enthusiast
"Intriguing berry-chocolate bouquet, nuances of spices and macchia; the attack is very supple, the acidity perfectly integrated, in harmony with the powdery tannins, powerful and yet with a lot of finesse right up to the spicy-herbal berry finish. Excellent style." Vinum
"This is a rich and profound wine with round tones of black fruit, spice, smoked tobacco and tarry smoke. The Biserno is shapely and generous with a full-bodied attack accentuated by crushed stone and pencil shavings. This opulent, cellar-worthy wine offers plenty of intensity and texture." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Biserno is one of the best wines I've ever tasted here. Rich yet vibrant, the 2020 presents a much more restrained style than used to be the norm. There's still plenty of intensity, but energy and vibrancy have replaced volume as signatures. Espresso, menthol, liquorice, cloves and leather are some of the many notes that unfold in this powerful, elegant Maremma red wine. The wonderful flavours of the franc open up the finish effortlessly." Vinous
"A majestic blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, a bouquet that opens with a slight buzz to then reveal itself in its fullness, blackcurrants, with undergrowth, capers from Pantelleria, orange peel, a drink with salty tannins and persistence, with a mentholated finish." Luca Gardini
"Very attractive nose with ripe blackcurrants, spiced chocolate, grilled thyme, hazelnuts and bacon. Also notes of tobacco and cedar. Full bodied, so refined and polished with layers of finely chiselled tannins evenly distributed across the wine and beautifully integrated. Flourishing fruit with savoury herbs, peppermint and violets. Very long and persistent with a steady, mineral impression on the finish." James Suckling
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Very fragrant and expressive nose of cassis, blackberries, fine mint, a hint of precious wood and milk chocolate, with a rich blackcurrant finish. Full-bodied on the palate, with an enormous amount of sweet melting, polished, embedded in tightly woven tannins, a noble liquorice note, comes back juicy in the back, very long, elegant, powerful." "From the very first moments of fermentation of this wine, we realise every year that we are dealing with a very high expression of Nebbiolo. The MGA Albesani is a very beautiful vineyard in the municipality of Neive with ideal exposure and perfect altitude. From there comes a rich, elegant, sometimes austere wine that combines its great appeal with excellent ageing potential." Franco Massolino
Barbaresco Albesani shows all the breadth and resonance so typical of this famous hillside vineyard in Neive. Red-purple fruits, spices, rose petals, lavender, menthol and liquorice develop with a little time in the glass. Bright acids and lively tannins give this classic, inviting Barbaresco from Massolino plenty of energy and stamina. SUPERIORE.DE
"Freshly mown hay and green tea accents frame cherry, strawberry and white pepper flavors in this sleek yet dense red. Overall, this remains balanced and elegant, with a beam of fruit persisting on the aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Exciting and racy red fruits with dried herbs and hibiscus with undertones of nutshells. Clean and lively on the palate with medium body and compact, ripe tannins that give the wine a firm and long mouthfeel. Velvety finish. Attractive already, but even better from 2025." James Suckling
"The Massolino 2020 Barbaresco Albesani from the village of Neive shows more balance at this young age than the winery's classic Barbaresco. This single-vineyard wine also has more depth with nuances of dark berries, cassis, blue flowers and crushed limestone. The floral aromas emerge with beautiful intensity. The wine's tannins are very fine and silky." Wine Advocate
"The Barbaresco Albesani 2020 has more substance and depth than the pure Barbaresco. The differences between the two wines are not so pronounced at first, but that comes with aeration. With time, macerated cherries, plums, spices, lavender, rose petals and sage develop in the glass. All the richness and power of the Albesani come out. For harvestwho want to understand what makes Albesani tick, this is the wine for you!" Vinous
"Very restrained on the nose, with smoky forest notes, preserved flowers and chocolate, wrapped in a fresh, elegant currant fruit. Very tasty on the palate, with fresh acidity and velvety, chewy, youthful tannins that are very precise and woven into the finish. Given its firm structure, this is not an easy wine to drink now, but it shows a quality in terms of texture and liquorice length that will keep it interesting for a long time." Decanter

Planeta's famous Chardonnay is certified organic from the 2022 vintage and exudes a large and rich bouquet with aromas of apricot, apple, lemon, honey and lime. On the palate, these intense flavours are paired with a delicate melting texture, fruity freshness and beautiful length. A Sicilian white wine at the highest level since its debut vintage in 1995. SUPERIORE.DE
"Lots of wood spice, vanilla and praline with lemon zest and ripe pineapple. Bright and creamy on the palate with a full body and a flavourful, spicy finish. Needs time to balance the wood. Taste from 2025." James Suckling
"The nose is savory but also floral, with undertones of herbs and of syrupy yet tart fruit, from cooked apples to dried pineapple. On the palate, rich flavors of lemon and almond paste both bolster and balance a more potent note of pineapple, before a lightly bitter finish." Wine Enthusiast

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
The cru sites Liste, Terlo, Baudana, Gabutti, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi are the origins of the grapes for the terrificVia Nuova. It is a monumental, exciting wine that combines the best that the vintage had to offer. Explosive in the glass, with breathtaking aromatic depth, it is stunningly beautiful from the first sip. Dark macerated cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and rose petals are enhanced by the underlying acidity and tannin that give the wine its energy and drive. Via Nuova is a wine of exceptional harmony, purity and finesse with an everlasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, lightening garnet red, light rim. Exceedingly fragrant nose of fresh roses, lots of raspberry and strawberry, a little candyfloss. Polished, finely meshed tannin, red berry fruit, tobacco on the final." Falstaff
"Fascinating aromatic complexity that keeps your nose hovering over the glass. Raspberries with ginger biscuits, flowers and a twist of basil. There’s a deeper layer of crushed goji berries and talc-like minerals, too. Full, intense, silky and dainty with well-integrated tannins that even add a chocolatey touch. So tempting to drink now, but better from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is marked by palpable brightness and tension that lend energy. Like all of these wines, the 2018 is restrained in feel, but all the elements are so well balanced. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks, chalk and white pepper give the Via Nuova notable energy. Intense veins of supporting tannin and minerality provide the backbone." Vinous
"This is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is fermented in steel and aged in oak according to time-tested local tradition. This mid-weight blended Barolo has a more prominent herbal or balsam signature at the back of red and purple fruits, licorice and pressed violet." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Pianrosso” DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Piccolomini's single-vineyard Brunello Vigna di Pianrosso 2017 comes from a south-western site of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone at an altitude of about 300 metres. It is beautiful and delicate from the start and spontaneously impresses with its vitality, depth and balance. Compared to the basic Brunello, the wine matures for another year in oak barrels and you can feel the added spice on the nose. Rich spices, leather and tar are followed by dark fruits, plum, blackberry and cassis. The finish is graceful and silky, its length is impressive. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripening, quite dark red; ripe fruit notes, dried figs, appealing; round approach, fullness, fruit ripeness, juicy, long, pleasant tartness, pleasing." Merum
"Seductive fruity nose with notes of wild flowers and spices, spiced up with notes of maquis and tobacco; polished on the palate, the tightly woven tannin and accentuated acidity in perfect balance, the finish exceedingly elegant and long as an oak. Superbly made and with potential." Vinum
"The CruWein has one more gear than the Annata. Multifaceted bouquet with wonderfully fresh ethereal notes, earthy hints as well as refined grilled aromas that remind us a little of red peppers, behind which leathery and herbaceous as well as floral nuances emerge, reminiscent of rose petals and violets. Finesse-rich palate with fresh, juicy fruit expression at the core, skilfully framed by fine polished tannin, wonderfully fresh and gripping, elegant style, with dark, ethereal spicy notes on the long final. Bravo!" Weinwisser
"Brightening, sparkling garnet red. Opens with emphatically fragrant notes, of fresh dark cherries, some rosehip, fine rose petals, amazingly fresh notes. Round and supple on the attack, opens with beautifully ripened fruit notes, grippy tannin, very well placed." Falstaff
"A nuanced, delicate bouquet of dried strawberries, roses, hints of sweet spice and crushed rocks lifts up from the charming 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso. This is remarkably lifted, yet juicy and energetic, as ripe red berries and minerals cascade across the palate. It leaves a coating of violet-tinged florals, along with persistent raspberry and cherry tones. The tannin management here is absolutely stunning, as the Pianrosso finishes structured yet vividly fresh." Vinous
"This is a beautifully crafted and polished Brunello for this vintage, with full body and creamy, lightly chewy tannins. Dark berries, walnuts and cedar with dried-flower undertones. Needs time to soften, but very pretty. Drink after 2024." James Suckling
"The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso shows nice balance and elegance, and it definitely shows the deft hand of the winemaking team in what was not an easy vintage by any stretch. This pretty wine delivers lots of fresh cherry and wild rose, with ferrous earthy, licorice and grilled herb; I also get bay leaf and rosemary sprig. Like the annata 2017 Brunello produced by this estate, the single-vineyard Brunello Pianrosso is distinguished by a sweet cherry note that accompanies the wine from start to finish." Wine Advocate

“Vigna Feldmarschall von Fenner” Müller Thurgau Vendemmia Tardiva Alto Adige DOC 2016 dolce
The exposed location of the estate on the Fennberg at around 1,000 m above sea level, with late autumn morning dew and high humidity, provides the ideal conditions for the development of noble rot (botrytis cinerea), which naturally leads to an additional concentration of grape sugar. The raisin-like dried grapes are harvested from mid to late December. After gentle pressing of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation takes place in small steel tanks, where the young wine rests on the fine yeast for around six months. The bottled wine matures in the cellar for another five years.
This Müller-Thurgau is a full-bodied late harvest (vendemmia tardiva) with considerable depth. It is dense and persistent and surprises with a buoyant freshness. The balanced interplay between minerality and strong body gives the wine its lightness and grants it good ageing potential. Notes of honey and lime in the finish make you want to take the next sip. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense straw yellow with golden reflections. Candied fruit, orange, peach and wildflower honey. Juicy and elegant, straightforward with an excellent, refreshing acidity, long, smooth and inviting finish." Falstaff
"The 2016 Alto Adige Müller Thurgau Feldmarschall Von Fenner Vendemmia Tardiva shows dried flower, daisy and wild grass on the bouquet. Fruit is harvested from an outstanding 1,000 meters above sea level, and the alcohol content is contained at 9.5%. With time, the aromas revert to honey, spicy saffron, crushed stone, dry tea leaf and a dusting of cinnamon. In fact, this unusual wine finishes on an almost dry note." Wine Advocate

Limitation of 1 articles per customer“Quarz” Sauvignon Bianco Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2022 · MAGNUM
The grapes for Terlan's Ikonen wine come from vineyards at an altitude of 300 to 550 metres with volcanic porphyry rock. Powerful, attractively exotic bouquet with bright gooseberries, mango and pink grapefruit, backed by a captivating mineral flavour. There is also lemongrass and herbal, ethereal notes. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, but not overloaded, instead deeply spicy, smoky, with a mineral-salty structure, followed by green-herbal notes in the focussed, mineral final. Every year, Quarz is one of the best Italian Sauvignon Blancs in its full splendour. As always, Cantina Terlano shows a skilful winemaker's hand in guiding the natural flavours of the grape, but also in delivering a very elegant interpretation. SUPERIORE.DE
"The name Quarz is derived from the quartz inclusions in the porphyry. A powerful, smoky bouquet with fine Sauvignon Blanc fruit, blackcurrant, elderberry and hints of herbs and minerals. In the mouth, it is initially taut and tightly woven, but then also melting with a fine texture and marvellous accompanying mineral spice." Weinwisser
"This lively, mineral white wine is long and graceful, with a hint of salinity that adds a delicious savoury note to the concentrated spectrum of nectarine, pink grapefruit granita, gooseberry, chive blossom and white pepper." Wine Spectator
"The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Quarz is youthfully coy, opening with an airy bouquet that mixes crushed rocks with dried flowers, hints of petrol and nectarines. This is pure pleasure on the palate, soft and round, with juicy acidity and ripe citrus-tinged orchard fruits that swirl as salty mineral tones penetrate deeply. The 2022 finishes with outstanding length and tension, leaving hints of sour melon and a tart lemon rind tinge. The 2022 is intense and built for the cellar." Vinous

This wine embodies the Piedmontese character: headstrong, persistent and silent, discreet and strong. Its colour is inviting ruby. Rich, elegant bouquet of berries and spices, initially reserved on the palate, then develops very balanced and smooth with precise structure, polished tannin and tight acidity. SUPERIORE.DE
"There’s impeccable transparency and freshness to this Barbaresco on the nose, which introduces bright rose petals, lifted orange peel, crushed stones and sour cherries. The stoney tannins trace intricate detail on the medium-to full-bodied palate, highlighting the racy acidity, brambly undertones and a beautiful array of wild berries. Yes, there’s power and depth of flavor, but this is all about grace and beauty." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Madonna del Piano” Riserva DOCG 2012
Sparkling, deep ruby red. In the bouquet a cornucopia of small red berries and red fruits. Complex and intense on the palate, with a refinement unparalleled in the 2012 vintage. We discover dark cherries, plums, camphor and a complexity that reveals more and more structure and personality with increasing air supply. In the finale, finely underlaid wood seasoning and a surprising freshness, which already today hints at a wonderful ripening cycle. Big and monumental! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a dark and thickly extracted expression. It is one of the blackest Brunellos you will find in this report. This rich red wine takes a little longer to open because those primary aromas are buried deep under all that bulk and power. Indeed, this wine is almost too much of a good thing. It moves with slow-motion laziness, and the bouquet is in absolutely no rush to show what it has in store. At its leisure, it will deliver dried blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, spice, campfire ash and sticky tar. There is some tannic astringency that will (hopefully) integrate with time. This is a hearty and satisfying wine to drink in the heart of winter with gentle snowflakes fluttering outside your window. It is a romantic wine in heart and soul." Wine Advocate
"Deep ruby-red. Toasty oak and vanilla complicate red cherry and underbrush aromas and flavors. Then rich, dense and concentrated, but lovely violet lift provides clarity and cut to the suave flavors of red cherry, red currant, flint and vanilla. Much deeper and richer than the 2013 Brunello from Valdicava, this beautiful wine finishes very long and ultra-smooth. It is the best wine I have ever had from this estate." Ian d’Agata (vinous.com)
"A complex red with rose petals, violets, crushed stones and cherries follows through to a full body and chewy tannins that are poised and polished. Extremely long and intense. A top wine for the vintage. This needs three or four years, maybe more, to come together." James Suckling

Poggio Valente comes from a single vineyard of the same name at an altitude of around 300 metres. Opulent floral and small-fruited Sangiovese nose with optimally nuanced hints of tobacco, cedar and mint. Precise on the palate with plenty of pressure and power, then towards the end the furious resolution of all the well-dosed components in a fine, silky texture and an unforgettable, long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very youthful bouquet with red berries, black cherries, redcurrants, as well as a noticeable minerality and spice (undergrowth, tobacco). Powerful but elegant style, fine tannin structure, lives from the red berry fruit and an astonishing freshness for the warm vintage." Weinwisser
"The notes of the 2020 Poggio Valente, a single varietal Sangiovese, intensify in a heady, effortless Tuscan red that hits all the right notes. Dark red/purple fruit, rose petals, liquorice, cedar and tobacco fill the layers. The 2020 impresses with its outstanding balance and class." Vinous
"Promising bouquet of raspberries and flowers, also subtle spicy notes; pithy on the palate, robust tannins, lots of character and good length, elegant lingering finish, in short: a wine for many situations." Vinum
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Valente, which came from a difficult harvest for Sangiovese, shows aromas of wild cherry, pressed violet, balsamic herbs and grilled rosemary. The wine has good freshness (this was the difficulty of the vintage) and has good tannins supporting a rich fruit core. The Poggio Valente is not dominated by oak, and this is also what characterises it." Wine Advocate
"Lots of rose petals, orange peel and cherries on the nose. Medium-bodied with a very long and bright fruit character. Lasts for minutes, with so much energy and brightness." James Suckling

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva DOCG 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC
Here comes the first vintage of the new Titolo Riserva, which will be bottled exclusively in 400 numbered magnum bottles and will thus hardly appear in the trade. A highly complex red with the scent of dried flowers, blackberry and crushed rock. The tannins are excellently integrated and this wine is already not only a coveted rarity, but a new star in the firmament of southern Italian wines. SUPERIORE.DE
"From magnum. Lustrous mid ruby. Cherry-laced palate with savoury, exotic, spice notes and liquorice. Gorgeous freshness and bite and length. Wonderful vibrant stuff." Jancis Robinson
"The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo Riserva takes things to a whole new level for Elena Fucci. It opens with an intense display of crushed cherry, exotic spices and sweet herbal tones; as the bouquet evolves, it gains haunting richness and a darker fruit profile with marine-tinged minerality and notes of lavender. Its silky textures coast along a medium-bodied framework, as a polished yet dense display of blackberry and currant gives way to saturating spice and a tightly wound web of tannin. This finishes long, intense and structured, leaving the palate drenched in black fruit concentrate, yet all lifted by residual acids. A stunning example of Aglianico and Vulture terroir." Vinous
"Here's a new discovery that I'd like to broadcast far and near. This Riserva is a new wine from Elena Fucci that was initiated with this vintage. It is a limited-edition wine made only in magnums. In fact, I tasted bottle number 1 of 400 made to write this review. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo is a dark and savory expression with an evolved and profound bouquet that covers all the bases. It offers dried fruit and blackberry with smoke, ash and crushed river stone. That mineral identity is the wine's most important defining characteristic. Aglianico tends to deliver astringent tannins, but this Riserva shows excellent integration and structural management. A new benchmark wine for southern Italy has just been created." Wine Advocate

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2015
Viettis Ravera is one of the great stars of Piedmont in its precision and structure. Rose petals, chalk, pepper and a hint of pomegranate make this Barolo one of the most sought-after appellations every year. With a little storage maturity, the strong tannins give way to an elegant appearance that does not deviate one millimetre from the coveted style of this large site. A monument to Barolo, which apart from Vietti and Giacosa, only a few other Piedmontese winegrowers bring into the bottle with such consistency! SUPERIORE.DE
"This red is full of sweet ripe plum, cherry and tar flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. Thick, dusty tannins coat the gums and put a clamp on the finish for now, but this shows potential." Wine Spectator
"The beautifully fragrant roses are impossible to resist. This oozes charm. Also, there are red cherries, cocoa powder and an array of wild herbs in the mix. The palate has toned yet muscular tannins that build nicely to deliver a concentrated core of ripe red-cherry flavor that holds long, fresh and youthful. Great Barolo." James Suckling
"The 2015 Barolo Ravera is once again the head of the class at Vietti. Bright, sculpted and wonderfully nuanced, the Ravera is very pretty. Floral aromatics and the pointed, brilliant fruit that is such a Ravera signature are very much in evidence. Hints of blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and flowers add shades of complexity as the 2015 gradually opens up in the glass. This is one of the finer wines of the year. Don't miss it!" Vinous
"Starting off a bit shy and closed at first, the 2015 Barolo Ravera showed noticeably better in the sample that had been opened a few hours prior to my arrival at the winery for my annual visit. This makes perfect sense as Vietti’s wines are intentionally slow at first but are built to endure the long haul. From the Novello township, this vineyard site is recognized for it power, structure and the uniquely broad approach it shows to the palate. There is a larger span of black fruit at its core. The positioning of the Ravera cru means it is open to the elements and the cold air from the Alps, and the wines result in freshness and mineral character as well. Luca Currado describes a salty, anchovy-like aroma that does indeed appear. Otherwise, this wine shows tightly polished and glossy tannins." Wine Advocate

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2015
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is incredibly inviting from the very first taste. Silky and aromatic, the Rocche shows plenty of the classiness that is such a signature of this Castiglione Falletto site. As with all of these 2015s, readers will have to be patient. The 2015 gains striking volume and resonance with time in the glass, but a few years in bottle are an absolute must for the wine to show at its very best." Vinous
"A rich, almost opulent style, this Barolo delivers cherry, raspberry, plum and eucalyptus flavors on a base of stiff tannins. Turns vibrant and chewy, with a solid, minerally finish." Wine Spectator
"Along with the Ravera, the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione has a very fresh feeling (they are both grown with less direct sunlight). Indeed, there are many similarities between these two prestigious Barolos from Vietti, but the differences start with the vinification methods. While the Ravera sees malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the Rocche di Castiglione completes that phase in botte. To continue the comparison, these two wines are certainly more closed than the other Barolo crus from this producer, the Lazzarito and the Brunate, which blossom and open more quickly. Even though it is a bit shy, the defining characteristics of herbaceous rosemary and balsamic notes show up well in this vintage of the Rocche di Castiglione, a vineyard site that prizes elegance above all else." Wine Advocate
"A hauntingly complex and finely detailed nose that touches so many different characters. Roses, dried wood, cedar, fine brown spices, light earthy notes, warm stones, mountain herbs and leaves. All here – very complex. The density and weight is exceptional, as is the fine, firm weave of tannins. The length is staggering and the tautness and balance are captivating. One of the stars of the vintage!" James Suckling

“Vigna del Sorbo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
The Vigna del Sorbo vineyard is located directly in front of the winery. The south-west facing vineyard with Galestro soils covers 8 hectares at an altitude of 450 metres. The Riserva was first produced in 1985 and has been labelled Gran Selezione since the 2010 vintage.
Dark ruby red with light red highlights. Deep and initially unfathomable on the nose. But any spirit of discovery will be enchanted when it opens slowly and very balanced with red cherries, redcurrants, earth, sage and liquorice, revealing more facets with each passing minute. Finally, the mouthfeel shows a similar degree of extreme flavour balance with very fine but still young tannins. This medium-bodied structure, coupled with the wine's natural acidity, is an important guarantee of its great longevity. Our clear conclusion: there is not only a lot to discover here, but also to admire. Chapeau! SUPERIORE.DE
"Promising aromas of raspberries and flowers, with subtle notes of pepper; pithy on the palate, perfectly integrated acidity, lots of juice, power, plump tannins, character and a wonderful spicy final on notes of ripe cherries and sandalwood." Vinum
"Dark ruby red colour with a delicately brightening rim. On the nose, pronounced spicy aromas of ripe wild berries, rich Amarena cherries and clear pepper spice, with a leathery aftertaste. Tight-knit and pithy on the palate, spreads out with grip, very juicy, with a subtle salty undertone, powerful and long with plenty of character, still needs some bottle ageing." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red colour. Spicy, mineral, elegant and a little reserved on the nose. Deep, juicy cherry fruit, supported by the right dose of chewy tannins. Very long. Concentrated, lively and relaxed at the same time." Jancis Robinson
"This wine is elegant, with floral, cherry, raspberry and mineral flavours. A hint of earth shines through, while the finish is graceful." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo 2019 is a powerful, virile wine with enormous depth and equally impressive tannins. An explosion of dark fruits, herbs, chocolate, menthol and spices flows from the glass. Big tannins and a hint of rusticity suggest that the 2019 will not be one of the finest sorbos, but it is a good effort for this year." Vinous
"Vigna del Sorbo lies at an altitude of 400 metres and has the classic Galestro soil of Chianti Classico. The warm, south-west facing vineyard typically produces a powerful, intense wine that requires ageing. The 2019 shows all the wild, penetrating characteristics of this site, but it quickly comes into harmony and reveals its balance and precision. The wood-accentuated notes of smoke and vanilla give way to pressed violets, rosemary and liquorice. Luscious red cherry and dark plum flesh is enveloped by long, layered, chalky tannins. The palate reveals an energetic bar of unwavering acidity that gives the wine a linear feel. Fennel and crushed stone linger on the finish." Decanter
"Usually excellent Sangiovese in purity of great elegance from Fontodi, with the step ahead of a great vintage. Nose of freshness, marasche, with officinal hints of citron thyme, mouth with a nice acidic shoulder, salty tannins, crispiness and incisiveness. Persistent." Luca Gardini
"This iconic wine has a whole new energy as it is now part of an exciting range of potential Gran Selezione wines being made at Fontodi. Two new additions to the portfolio (Pastrolo from cool Lamole and Terrazze San Leonlino from Panzano) help to give greater context to the organic 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo. This wine naturally benefits from many years of experience, and the identity of Vigna del Sorbo is well established. Soil connoisseurs, however, will take great pleasure in comparing the Vigna del Sorbo from slate-rich Galestro soils with the calcareous alternative from Terrazze San Leonlino. I lean towards the Vigna del Sorbo because I find the mineral notes of pencil and iron ore so appealing. These dusty notes are rounded out by sweet cherry fruit, plum and spice. Rising alcohol levels can be a problem in sun-drenched Panzano, and the wine team lets the vines grow higher in summer to provide shade and takes other active measures to combat this problem." Brunello di Montalcino “Pianrosso” DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Pianrosso comes from a south-western site of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone at an altitude of about 300 m with mainly Galestro soils. It opens the pleasure cinema with a rich, sparkling garnet red. The bouquet is seductive and deep with hints of dark and black fruits, sage, rose petals and violets. On the palate, there is a distinct salty-fresh minerality, which soon enters into a wonderful harmony with the fine-grained tannins and the perfectly layered fruit, leading the wine powerfully with optimal balance into a soft, hardly ending finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant wine that smells of berries, leather and tobacco; the tannins finely chiselled yet long-lasting, the acidity well integrated, the finish seductively long on notes of ripe forest fruits and balsamic notes. Of Burgundian elegance." Vinum
"The Cru wine is a selection of the best vines and is also one of the best Brunelli this year. The wines benefit from well-draining Galestro soils. Immensely complex and multi-faceted, it beguiles with redcurrants, fresh ethereal spicy notes reminiscent of Mediterranean herbs, plus mineral-salty hints as well as floral nuances (rose petals, violet blossoms). Finesse-rich palate with fresh, juicy fruit, very cleverly arranged, skilfully framed by fine polished, noble tannin, very elegant style, with ethereal spicy notes on the long final." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby garnet. Finely marked nose with notes of wild raspberries, ripe, small plums, some cardamom and rose petals. Round and supple on the attack, showing plenty of sweet melt, lots of raspberry, opens up on the back end with fine meshed, slightly grippy tannin, savoury, slight bitterness on the final." Falstaff
Both 2018 wines from Ciacci Piccolomini offer a "deliciousness" of flavour and a true Umami quality, but the Pianrosso selection offers greater Brunello satisfaction. This not quite 12 hectare, iron-rich marl vineyard has had just enough warmth to make its southern origins clear. It has more shape, form and depth that give it staying power. Iron and salty minerals emerge against a backdrop of persimmon and hibiscus, finishing with Mediterranean herbs. The soft, sandy tannins are smooth and yielding, giving the wine a complex texture and immediate drinkability." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso opens in the glass with dark aromas of crushed plums and black cherries, accompanied by notes of rosemary, spiced citrus peel and a hint of cocoa. This is a particularly racy style for Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona, with cool mineral tones and zesty acidity driving the ripe berry fruit and hints of sour citrus across the palate. Although structured, it finishes with tremendous energy and freshness, leaving a bitter hint of balsamic spice in the mouth. The 2018 may not have the power often associated with Pianrosso, but it impresses with its lively and spicy character." Vinous
"A complex red wine with dark, spicy notes of liquorice, eucalyptus and tobacco that combine with cherry and berry flavours. Juicy, with a slightly viscous texture, with wild herb and iron elements creeping in on the long finish. Power meets grace." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino produces beautiful results if you choose to drink it now, or if you cellar it a little longer. It offers immediate intensity and complexity with a red and purple berry fruit attack that follows tarry spices, campfire ash, liquorice and rusty nails. These Savoyard tones are balanced with the wine's elegant, medium-weight finish. And the tannins are seamlessly integrated. The winemaking team has done a good job in a difficult vintage." Wine Advocate
"This wine is so complex, with citrus and herbal notes underpinning the blue and red berry fruits. Thyme, sage and lavender, but also mocha and cloves. Full-bodied, full of depth and intensity, with firm but seamless tannins. Develops into espresso. Balanced, powerful and very long. Taste after 2025." James Suckling
"A certainty of appellation for the Bianchini family vineyard, just a few steps from Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Very multi-faceted nose, redcurrant, then marjoram and iodine touches, like Taggiasche olives. The sip is juicy, with a fruity-officinal finish and very long reverberation." Luca Gardini

“Tresette” Merlot Toscana IGT 2016 · MAGNUM in OWC
This is the first vintage of the new pure Merlot of the house. The name Tresette is derived from the fact that there will be just 2,800 bottles of this wine, which will be aged in three 700l French oak barrels. The grapes come from old vines from a 480m high plot of land, and it is only vinified in the best years. Tresette is a cool, archetypal Merlot of the very elegant type and is completely in keeping with the style of the house. Juicy blackberry, in the nose clove, herbs and spice notes. Wrapped in smooth tannins, this fresh red leads to a delicious finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"From a vineyard of only 0.7 hectares at 480 metres above sea level, matures for 20 months in 7 hectolitre barrels: Seductive blackberry aroma, underlaid with notes of liquorice; juicy in the mouth, the tannins and acidity in harmony, elegant and polished final. Convincing." Vinum
" Firm, quite deep, slightly iodine scent of black currant and red berries with herbal aromas, some nuts, blood, black olives and moderate wood spice as well as mineral notes. Firm, ripe, tart, yet extremely juicy fruit, tight, quite fine tannin and a certain acid bite, persistent on the palate, herbal and planty notes, a hint of pepper, clear, salty and chalky minerality, has power, but also freshness and cooling elements, noble spice, very lively, multi-layered and deep, very good, tight, juicy and finely spicy finish. Great." Wein-Plus
"Named after the Italian card game, the 2016 TreSette (777) is a pure expression of Merlot from old vines. Only 2,800 bottles were made. Riecine's La Gioia once had Merlot in the blend, but it was removed to make this wine instead. This wine offers a generous bouquet with blackcurrant and cherry. However, the high altitudes of the vineyards shape crisp and acidic fruit that is very evident in this slightly cooler vintage." Wine Advocate
"This is a pretty wild and amazing on the nose with crystal-clear aromas of lavender, before the bay leaves, Thai basil, cloves and a touch of vanilla come into play. Medium to full body, incredibly edgy acidity and layer after layer of pure blue fruits. An outstanding wine with few parallels in Italy. One of a kind." James Suckling

Barolo “Bricco delle Viole” DOCG 2020 (BIO) · MAGNUM
Rose petals, spices and red-coloured fruit float in the glass, supported by fine, racy tannins. On the palate, the typical, medium-bodied characteristics of Bricco delle Viole are evident, while the contours are soft and the wine's personality demands the next sip. Vajra fans should give it a few more years to mature, despite its current accessibility. SUPERIORE.DE
"Modern nose with still noticeable wood influence, dark red berries, slightly gelled. Behind this, however, it becomes exciting with earthy mineral notes and red and violet flowers. Juicy and dense with a melting texture, very elaborate, sweet tannin texture, berry, rich final with a fine tannic attack on the finish." Weinwisser
"Wonderful roundness after a light animal scent. A ballet dancer with muscles - and a certain tenderness." Jancis Robinson
"Historically, the Bricco delle Viole is the highest Barolo and remains the highest of the Vajra bottlings. The vines from 1931, 1949 and 1968 have a round shape and early ripeness. Smoky violets and crushed slate characterise the aromas. On the palate, dried strawberries and purple plum flesh offer fruitiness, followed by minerality and lift from crushed red stones, and mace and clove provide a sweet spice on the finish." Decanter
"Rose petals, racy plums and cherries with subtle white pepper spice and minerals. The taut, full-bodied palate is gripped by fine, mineral-structured tannins. Powerful, rich and vertical in the centre before a long, mineral finish. It's a pleasure to taste now, but it will be even better in two to three years." James Suckling
"The Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2020, Vajra's flagship wine, is very good. Dark cherry, cherry, blood orange, spice and lavender are nicely amplified. The 2020 is graceful and elegant, but its youthful Nebbiolo tannins will need some time to settle down. The 2020 is another wine that piques my keen interest with its sublime balance." Vinous

“Le Volte dell’Ornellaia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Rich bouquet of sweet red berries, balsamic notes, fine flavours of tobacco and chocolate. Very harmonious on the palate of dark cherries, flatteringly full flavour, perfectly balanced tannins, fresh acidity and good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2021 offers bright and youthful fruit with dark cherries, cassis, spices and red roses. This wine is made from Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. You can feel the acidity of the Italian grapes and the rich fruit of the two French grape varieties. The wine is taut and dense with medium intensity. This is the entry-level red wine from one of Italy's best-known wineries." Wine Advocate
"A firm and silky wine with aromas and flavours of bark, berries, chocolate and light coffee. Medium body. Creamy, structured finish. Drinkable and fresh." James Suckling
"Shows expressive, juicy flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis and lavender that need time to meld with the firm, dusty tannins, some of which come from the oak. Gets even better with a few minutes of air. Offers a nice length. Decant now." Wine Spectator
"Intense ruby red with a slightly lighter rim. Subtle aromas of ripe sour cherry and preserved plums on the nose, with some spice and a touch of liquorice in the background. Well-balanced on the palate, with fine-grained tannins, drinky and a long final." Falstaff
"The nose blends rich fruit notes of cherry, pomegranate, blood orange and raspberry with a woody, earthy, slightly herbal savoriness. The cherries and blood orange star on the palate, with the savory elements continuing to make themselves known before a closing kick of chili heat. Vibrant acidity bounces around chalky tannins." “Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia” Bolgheri DOC 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Beguiling aroma of sweet, dark berries with hints of cassis, cedar and antique leather. Very balanced on the palate, of beautiful viscosity with an elegant melting. Fine-meshed tannin, restrained mineral tones and a wonderfully polished fruit accompany into a remarkable finish. For all its elegance, it shows pressure and power and, with the right dose of acidity, promises a long life and almost reaches the level of its famous big brother. SUPERIORE.DE
"The intense ruby red Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2020 unabashedly reveals a clear and generous aromatic expression, marked by notes of ripe red fruits. On the palate, the wine is soft, round and enveloping, yet at the same time full-bodied and rich, with a good balance between structure, richness and elegance." Olga Fusari, Oenologist
"Rich, almost impenetrable dark ruby with a shimmering core. Graceful on the nose with notes of black ribes, mocha, tobacco leaf and some mint. Imposing and polished on the palate, elegant, very well integrated wood, fine-grained firm tannins, with excellent structure and a long finish with lots of dark fruit." Falstaff
"This muscular red is saturated with aromas of cherry, plum, vanilla and earth. As solid and sinewy as the tannin structure is, the fruit matches it step for step on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"The Ornellaia 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a generous and dark-toned red wine that has the added fruit fibre, sweetness and generous richness of a warm vintage. The fullness of the fruit is on full display, but in a very relaxed and natural way. The wine never feels like too much. The tannins are yielding and velvety, and this pure-bred Tuscan red wine coats the palate tightly." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a very beautiful and elegant wine. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Crushed flowers, spices, menthol, mocha, dark red cherries and cedar adorn this expressive, medium-bodied Serre Nuove. The 2020 is a wine of great harmony and balance." Vinous

Capitel Monte Olmi 2017 takes things to another level. It coats the glass with a deep purple glow and exudes a dark and seductive bouquet of redcurrants, sultanas, black liquorice and a hint of spiced citrus. The deep, velvety texture is complemented by juicy acids and tart red fruits that drench everything they touch, leaving a complex layer of savoury spices, minerals and fine tannins. This wine is structured, long and full of character, but with a balance that will carry it for many years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, shiny ruby red with garnet reflections. Very intense aromas of blueberry, black elderberry, ripe plum, sandalwood, chocolate and tobacco leaf on the nose. Powerful and very fruity on the palate, delicately spicy and dense, with fine tannins, very balanced final with great drinking pleasure." Falstaff
"Blackberry pie, sweet and savoury spices, woody herbs and violets swirl in the glass. In the mouth, it's lush and creamy, with cooked plums and black cherries on the mid-palate accompanied by anise, clove and pepper, finishing with fine tannins and bright acidity. The wine shows the 2017 vintage with its concentrated richness, but there is enough acidity to hold the wine together." Wine Enthusiast
"It starts with oak aromas on the nose, but as soon as you put the wine in your mouth, the bright dried berries begin to unfold and soak up the oak flavours, leading to a full-bodied, long and balanced finish. Although the flavour spectrum is not particularly complex at this stage, this wine is well-structured and already approachable. But Amarone fans will certainly want to cellar this wine, as the enormous ageing potential is obvious from the first sip." James Suckling
"The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Capitel Monte Olmi is youthfully coy, slowly blossoming with swirling to reveal notes of cocoa, clove, lavender and dried black cherries. Creamy and seamlessly silky, this soothes the palate with its cooling acidity as masses of ripe red and blue fruits slowly saturate. A bitter tinge of dark chocolate lingers along with a tart berry concentration, all framed by crunchy tannins. This is an excellent effort for this warm and dry vintage. Its balance is spot on." Vinous
"One of the most traditional wineries in Valpolicella, ancient wisdom combined with modern intuition. “Quarz” Sauvignon Bianco Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2021 · MAGNUM
Named after the quartz speckles in the volcanic porphyry rock of Terlan, the most famous Sauvignon Bianco in Italy lives up to its name. Sparkling yellow-green in colour. Filigree, delicately scented with grapefruit, peach, honey and green papaya. Quartz is taut and precise, with a fleshy, creamy texture, great depth and a wonderful mineral-salty finish. Must have and must taste! SUPERIORE.DE
"Our Sauvignon selection, which has been given a truly characteristic name, is as filigree as the fine quartz crystals in Terlan's volcanic porphyry rock. The quartz is characterised by its fine texture and depth as well as a salty finish, which have now earned this fine white wine an international reputation." Rudi Kofler, Kellermeister Terlan
"Subtle grassy herbal notes lead to an expressive palate with lemon curd, guava and focussed mineral characters; refreshing and long." Decanter
"The flavours of melon, kiwi, Meyer lemon and notes of chive blossom and toast are very harmonious. A tantalising white that is skilfully knitted with razor-sharp acidity and salty minerality. It is long and creamy on the palate, with spice, mineral and herb accents on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Quarz is very seductive, with a rich blend of savoury herbs and grapefruit zest underscored by a cooling hint of white smoke. It is bold and smooth with a medium body and a pretty inner sweetness that borders on decadent but is balanced by an energising core of zesty acidity. Candied lemon and lime resonate, while hints of salty minerality and chalk dust provide a perfect contrast. Like most Quartz vintages, this wine will age well over the medium term. Nevertheless, there is no harm in enjoying it now in this wonderful primary state." Vinous
"The Sauvignon Quartz is a very exact and precise expression, with tropical tones, crushed stone, tomato leaves and green papaya. There is a hint of sweetness, like candied pineapple or mango ice cream. I have always felt a special connection with this wine. There's a hint of pulverised quartz stone on the finish." Wine Advocate
"A sophisticated Sauvignon with a complex and aromatic nose that offers notes of glazed citrus and stone fruit with honeysuckle and melon rind. The palate is full and structured with a lively acidity. Creamy with the texture of ripe nectarine and an exciting mineral finish." James Suckling
"Cantina Terlano's usual fascinating journey into the potential of Sauvignon Blanc. On the nose, cedar wood, lychee, a hint of nectarine, then a menthol note and cedar thyme. Dense, crisp and exciting on the palate, with a fruity, citrusy finish and a long aftertaste." Luca Gardini
"Bright, sparkling straw yellow colour. Very intense nose, rich aromas of dark redcurrants and elderflower, with a hint of tomato green, exciting. Also shows great flavour on the palate, lots of sage, salty, beautiful melting on the final, lingers for a very long time." Falstaff

Deep dark, impenetrable ruby colour with violet reflections. Opulent, warm bouquet of fully ripe cherries, plums, liquorice, young leather with a hint of French oak spice. Powerful and firm on the palate, with a brilliant structure and taut tannins. With increasing aeration, it reveals its good structure and refined elegance. This outstanding Merlot from central Tuscany never seems broad or too heavy until the long finish, but is completely convincing with its terrificenergy and complexity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, elegant ruby red colour. Fine use of wood on the nose, hints of marzipan, undergrowth, milk chocolate, dark berry fruit on the finish. Well-integrated acidity and clear, spicy fruit on the palate, currently coated in a somewhat bulky woody layer, full-bodied, but still needs to age longer." Falstaff
