In 2001, when the Mascheroni Stianti family planted the Casanova vineyard, one of the most visionary projects in the history of Tuscan viticulture began. Between the legendary Coltassala and Balifico vineyards, on the sun-drenched south-south-east flank of Volpaia, a living museum of Sangiovese biodiversity was created – a vineyard that was to become the flagship of an entire philosophy. Il Puro is the pure essence of Chianti Classico: 100 per cent Sangiovese, 100 per cent indigenous clones, 100 per cent organic, 100 per cent Radda.

What makes this Gran Selezione truly exceptional, however, is its genetic history. As early as 1943, indigenous Sangiovese vines were growing in the Campo di Berto of Volpaia – short-stemmed, ungrafted original varieties that defied the devastating phylloxera epidemic of the 1970s and preserved an invaluable genetic heritage. The family reproduced 25 different clones from these 60-year-old vines, which are now cultivated in their purest form in the Casanova vineyard at an altitude of 480 metres.

Il Puro glows an intense ruby red in the glass and unfolds a bouquet of aristocratic elegance: fresh cherries and violets combine with vanilla and cocoa to create an aromatic profile that reflects both the purity of the grape variety and the depth of the terroir. The palate reveals the full power of the autochthonous genetics: densely structured and powerful, with velvety tannins and a lively acidity that gives the wine endless persistence.
