Named after an iron-rich cave in the region, this wine symbolises what characterises the Sulcis in southern Sardinia: rough, warm, mineral and yet full of charm – and yet full of charm. The Carignano grapes come from old vines rooted in the calcareous, clayey-sandy soils around Santadi. The Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights promotes ripeness and freshness in equal measure. After temperature-controlled fermentation and completed malolactic fermentation, the wine matures traditionally in cement tanks.

Brilliant ruby red in the glass with a purple centre. The aroma is precise and open: ripe cherries, blackberries and a hint of aromatic herbs, accompanied by a hint of liquorice and pepper. Smooth on the palate, with juicy fruit, well-integrated tannins and fresh but never sharp acidity. The structure remains medium-bodied, the style balanced and accessible. The finish is again characterised by fine spice and a mineral accent. An authentic expression of the Sulcis and a prime example of the powerful, elegant side of Carignano – down-to-earth, honest and very flavoursome. SUPERIORE.DE
