Between the hills to the east of Montalcino stands Palazzo Altesi - a wonderful old building built in the 14th century by the Tricerchi family. Since 2002 Altesino has been owned by Signora Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, with Pietro Rivella as enologist. The Altesino winery can rightly be called a pioneer in some areas. In 1977 Altesino, together with the master distiller Gioacchino Nannoni, launched the first Grappa di Fattoria on the market. Thanks to Altesino, French barriques were first used in the Montalcino area in 1979 and with the introduction of the Cru Montosoli concept, Altesino became a trendsetter in wine production.
Altesino extends over 64 hectares. The vineyards cover 27 hectares and are divided into three crus: Cru Altesino, La Velona and Montosoli. The latter has always been known for the production of elegant and noble wines. In addition to Sangiovese, which accounts for most of the vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Trebbiano and Malvasia are also cultivated. SUPERIORE.DE
