This is the sunny elegance of Sicily at its best: Terebinto is a single-varietal Grillo from the sustainably farmed Monte Cirami and Gurra vineyards near Menfi. The colour in the glass is a brilliant canary yellow, clear, lively and inviting. The aroma is typical, but loaded with precision and freshness: Pineapple, white melon rind, Granny Smith apple, chunky rice grains and prickly pear. Fresh, energetic and finely structured on the palate – vibrant acidity meets lush but clear fruit. The minerality remains present, balanced and deep, especially due to the altitude and the cool influence of the nearby sea. !["Allemanda" Moscato Sicilia Noto DOC 2024 secco (BIO)]()
“Allemanda” Moscato Sicilia Noto DOC 2024 secco (BIO)
Dry Moscato from the Noto coast – unusual, but all the stronger in character. Allemanda comes from the south of Sicily, where the calcareous, sandy soils of Tenuta Buonivini and the Mediterranean climate create a unique terroir for aromatic grape varieties. Maturation in stainless steel tanks emphasises the purity and finesse of this rarely dry Muscat variety. Pale straw yellow in the glass with silver reflections. The aroma is clear and animating: lychee, white peach, lemon balm, wild flowers and a hint of nutmeg. Lively and dry on the palate, with a lean structure, well-integrated acidity and a delicate, almost salty finish. No opulence, but precise flavours with a fine spiciness. Allemanda shows that Moscato in the right location can also be a fragrant, elegant white wine. Ideal with summer cuisine, ceviche or marinated fennel with citrus. An original wine for explorers. “Mamertino” Rosso Sicilia DOC 2020
Nero d'Avola and Nocera in a classic cuvée, matured for 12 months in 25hl tonneaux – planetas Mamertino comes from the clay and limestone hills of Baronia in the province of Messina. The traditional DOC area goes back to a Roman designation and was already recognised as a wine of distinction by Pliny the Elder. A dense ruby red colour with a violet hue in the glass. The bouquet is full of character and brooding: dark cherries, blackberries and preserved plums meet herbs, balsamic notes, leather and a hint of tobacco. Powerful on the palate, with ripe tannins, dark fruit and a spicy, mineral backbone. The Nocera grape brings freshness and structure, while the Nero d'Avola provides fullness and density. The long, balanced finish clearly reveals the origin and ageing process. An independent red wine from the north-east of the island that combines history and modern elegance in a very exciting way. A volcanic masterpiece from Sicily's latest wine revolution: since 2023, Etna winegrowers have been allowed to state their specific contrada on the label for the first time – a historic innovation that honours the region's centuries-old understanding of terroir. Planeta's flagship wine from the Contrada Feudo di Mezzo epitomises this new era with impressive clarity. The Planeta family, Sicilian wine pioneers since 1694, reached the northern slopes of Etna in 2008 and immediately recognised the extraordinary potential of the volcanic soils. In Feudo di Mezzo, at an altitude of 610 metres, wines of unique expressiveness are produced on black lava sands and mineral-rich sediments. The winery was built in 2012 on a lava flow dating back to 1566. A symbol of the connection between modern vinification and geological history.

Diego Planeta recognised early on that Syrah on this island could be more than just an international variety: a hymn to the Mediterranean light, dry heat and barren soil that forces the vine to fight. The microfauna here is extremely active, the vines have to conquer their water – and produce grapes of exceptional ripeness and concentration.

“Eruzione 1614” Carricante Sicilia DOC 2022 (BIO)
Carricante from Planeta's Etna vineyard is an exceptional wine full of freshness, energy and minerality. This noble grape variety thrives in exclusive conditions, on volcanic soils and at altitudes of 870 metres. A wonderfully complex pleasure that is only ever released for sale two years after the harvest. The eruption of 1614 is legendary in the history of Etna, as it lasted ten years, making it the longest recorded eruption of the active volcano to date. The eruption of 1614 is legendary in the history of Etna, as it lasted ten years, making it the longest recorded eruption of the active volcano to date. A very impressive and fitting name for Planeta's Etna series of equally impressive wines. It could hardly be more autochthonous: this excellent wine from the Nerello Mascalese grape comes from the hotspot on the east coast of Sicily, from the slopes of Mount Etna. Bright cherry red in colour, a fine aroma of raspberry and blood orange, gripping, taut acidity, silky tannins and a lively elegance with beautiful minerality. Great, long and unique! SUPERIORE.DE

![Passito Bianco di Noto DOC 2023 dolce (BIO)]()
Passito Bianco di Noto DOC 2023 dolce (BIO)
The grapes are harvested at the end of August when they are ripe and then dried in the fruit cellar in 5kg crates at 23⁰C. After around 40 days, when half their weight has been lost, the grapes are pressed and the resulting must, which is particularly rich in sugar, ferments slowly at 18°C for over a month in stainless steel containers, where it remains until bottling. Light golden yellow in colour, with a fine bouquet of orange blossom, some quince, apricot and peach. Sparkling on the palate with surprisingly lively acidity, spreads out beautifully, with orange peel and some grapefruit on the long final. SUPERIORE.DE

!["Santa Cecilia" Nero d'Avola Sicilia Noto DOC 2021 (BIO)]()
“Santa Cecilia” Nero d’Avola Sicilia Noto DOC 2021 (BIO)
Santa Cecilia is Planeta's Nero d'Avola icon – born in the barren, sun-baked cultural landscape of Noto, on white limestone soils that give the variety depth, elegance and saltiness. A dense ruby red colour with a purple core in the glass. The bouquet opens with ripe black cherry, plum and mulberry, flanked by balsamic herbs, black tea, some liquorice and a fine graphite note. Powerful on the palate, but never overpowering: dense, ripe fruit meets a firm tannin structure that is well integrated and lends length. The acidity is precisely set, the finish is long and carried by a salty nuance that reflects the terroir of Contrada Buonivini. An expressive, high-class Nero d'Avola with a profile of origin, character and an ageing process that enhances rather than masks the variety. For Planeta, it has been a reference and expression of a new, confident Sicily for years. SUPERIORE.DE

Without the drive and clear quality ideas of Francesca, Alessio and Santi Planeta, Sicily would perhaps not be one of Italy's most interesting wine regions today. For among the first Sicilian wines to free the Mediterranean island from its reputation for cheap mass-produced wine was none other than Planeta's magnificent and now world-famous Chardonnay.
The reason why the Cousin trio did not immediately choose one of the many Sicilian grape varieties, but rather a French one, is that in the 1980s, the indigenous varieties were mainly used for the production of inexpensive cask wines. The ideal recipe for success was therefore to bring the unique island terroir to the outside world first and foremost with the help of grape varieties that were already internationally known - which ultimately secured the Sicilian winery a well-deserved ticket to the world's wine markets.
Planeta's Chardonnay thus demonstrated that Sicily has much more to offer than just simple bulk wine. Over the past two decades, the three young winemakers have established themselves among the most important producers on the island thanks to their high quality standards. With over 390 hectares, the focus is now also on the incredibly exciting autochthonous grape varieties, which are cultivated by the family in the predestined wine regions of Sicily.
After a long period of research in the main wineries Ulmo and Dispensa near Menfi - where they still focus mainly on the production of international grape varieties - the Planetas also expanded further south to the area of Vittoria with the Dorilli winery and later to Noto with the construction of the Buonivini winery. These locations are mainly reserved for the indigenous grape varieties, such as Frappato or the popular Nero d'Avola. However, in the search for the most demanding cultivation zones on the island, they could not refrain from also settling on the lava-spitting Etna to create outstanding volcanic wines at the Feudo di Mezzo estate. The La Baronia winery in Capo Milazzo opposite the Aeolian Islands is also part of Planeta, where the ancient Nocera grape variety thrives. Grinning, Francesca told us in conversation at the time: "And we tell ourselves every year that this will be the last winery."
This promise was obviously not set in stone, because at the same time as the 2022 harvest, Planeta's new winery opened its doors on the Monte Cirami in Sambuca di Sicilia. Here, the four top red wines are now vinified exclusively in organic production (starting with the 2022 vintage): Didacus Rosso, Burdese, Maroccoli and Sito dell'Ulmo.
The project is based on the ambition to constantly optimise the quality of Planeta wines and to create a place that corresponds to the company's production philosophy and where all the knowledge and skills are concentrated. Monte Cirami, an exceptional place in terms of landscape, represents the centuries-old harmony between man and nature. Here, great, expressive red wines are produced with enormous care. A modern winery that is careful to preserve the original characteristics of the grapes as much as possible.
"The need to create a place for the production of excellent red wines stems from the desire to dedicate equally special spaces to special wines. The idea of providing the most important wines with a physical production and processing space that meets their needs is a fitting tribute to the quality of the product and a dream we have cherished for years," comments CEO Alessio Planeta on the opening of this heartfelt project.
From west to east, the Planeta name is spread across seven boutique wineries. In order to inspire with more top Sicilian wines, the philosophy of the company puts the preservation and exploration of the breathtakingly beautiful territory at the very top. Their rich and unique wine selection, with its uncompromising quality and a Mediterranean flavour, undoubtedly reflects the true potential of the popular Italian wine island. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Planeta family boasts a gifted hand in marketing and their hard work has only helped to develop the Sicily brand within the many foreign markets they penetrate. Enormous credit goes to them." Robert Parker
