Bucine, Valdarno di Sopra – where the Arno meanders through gentle hills between Arezzo and Florence, Fattoria Petrolo lies between 250 and 500 metres above sea level. In 1988, Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust wanted a wine that told the true identity of this terroir: the "Château" of Petrolo, a tribute to the centuries-old Tuscan tradition of combining French varieties with Sangiovese. As early as 1834, Giorgio Perrin, agronomist of Swiss origin and owner of Petrolo, reported in the "Giornale Agrario Toscano" that it was customary in Chianti to blend "uve francese" with Sangiovese, not to change the quality, but because the terroir won out over the grape varieties.

Torrione combines Sangiovese from historic vineyards such as Bòggina (planted in 1947), Merlot from Galatrona and Cabernet Sauvignon from Campo Lusso. About 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 5% Cabernet, a blend of all the vineyards on the estate. The soils vary: Loam with alternating layers of slate, marl and sandstone. Sustainably farmed since 2004, hand-picked in crates, selection at the sorting table. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, gentle manual sparging, 18 days of maceration. Matured for 15 months partly in French barriques, partly in 40-hectolitre barrels, partly in concrete.

Bright, rich ruby red colour. The nose seduces with dark berries, cherry, raspberry, floral notes, graphite and a hint of tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, complex and structured, yet ethereal and weightless – where generosity meets delicacy. Fluid, dynamic, already accessible. Fine tannins, well-integrated acidity, the fruit remains clear and precise. The finish is long, with fine length and chalky tannins. A red wine of remarkable balance and depth that perfectly captures the identity of Valdarno di Sopra. SUPERIORE.DE
