Santo Spirito is one of the most striking contrade on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna – less stony than Rampante, but no less impressive. Here, at an altitude of around 700 metres, the old Nerello Mascalese vines are deeply rooted in ashy volcanic soil with a high sand content. The microclimate is cooler, the humidity higher and the east-facing exposure gives the grapes gentle morning warmth. Pietradolce vinifies the single-vineyard wine traditionally with spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, followed by approx. 12 months of ageing in large French tonneaux.

Medium ruby red in the glass with a garnet red colour. Delicate and multi-layered on the nose: rosehip, sour cherry, orange zest, a hint of forest floor, plus fine balsamic notes and mineral depth. Very balanced on the palate with juicy fruit, fine-grained tannins and a cool, linear structure. The texture is silky, almost floating, yet carried by a salty vein and a long, clearly defined finish. Santo Spirito represents a more subtle, accessible style in the Etna universe – less dramatic than Rampante, but no less exciting. A terroir-influenced Nerello with finesse, freshness and a quiet but resonant voice. Around 4,000 bottles were bottled. SUPERIORE.DE
