Renaissance – the name says it all. Whether Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli or Michelangelo were wine lovers is a question Markus Prackwieser leaves to the historians. Yet their universal genius inspires him: only in the very best vintages, when all the factors come together perfectly, does he create these exquisite wines – masterpieces that shine with versatility and finesse. The Sauvignon Blanc Riserva Renaissance embodies this philosophy in its purest form. The grapes grow on calcareous moraine soils over quartz porphyry at an altitude of 400 to 550 metres, where Mediterranean warmth prevails during the day and cool Dolomite winds ensure crystalline freshness at night. After a brief maceration and gentle pressing, the wine ferments entirely in tonneaux. Then comes the crucial step: twelve months’ ageing in large oak casks on the first lees, followed by a further ten months in steel tanks on the fine lees. This patient maturation lends the wine that extra smoothness and finesse which sets it apart from all others.

The result is an expression of grandeur without opulence. A sparkling straw-yellow colour with green highlights in the glass. A spectrum of aromas unfolds layer by layer, ranging from floral notes to gooseberry and sage – subtle, yet with great focus. On the palate, the structure is flawless, with juicy fruit paired with spicy herbal notes; it has great presence without any heaviness. The finish is long, full-bodied and excitingly salty – a terrificwine for fish, an outstanding all-rounder for light cuisine, a wine with ageing potential of at least ten years – be sure to let it breathe for several hours.
