Orlando and Attilio Pecchenino are from Dogliani. The fact that these brothers, who have made a name for themselves as Dolcetto producers, also produce a Barolo of such depth and precision is no contradiction – it is the same approach, applied to a different terroir. The Corsini vineyard in the Bussia MGA, Monforte d’Alba: south-west facing, calcareous-clay soil with brownish marl, Guyot training, 5,000 vines per hectare. At 340 hectares, Bussia is the second-largest MGA in the Barolo region – and was historically the first single vineyard to ever be bottled as such. Despite its size, its soils are remarkably homogeneous, and its character unmistakable: dense depth that unfolds into great complexity over time.
The 2021 vintage in the Langhe brought balanced ripeness, fresh acidity and finely structured tannins. A deep, luminous garnet red. The bouquet is complex and delicate: red fruits, violets, liquorice, spices and tobacco. Elegant and precise on the palate, supported by lively acidity and fine tannins, with a long, mineral final. A Barolo that demands patience and repays it with interest. SUPERIORE.DE
"An austere wine with a nose of restrained fruit, strawberries, red currants, leaves and fresh figs. Full-bodied with density, firm dusty tannins, crisp acidity, good integration and a polished yet austere finish." James Suckling
"With roots in Dogliani, Pecchenino was born as a Dolcetto producer. Over the years, brothers Orlando and Attilio have expanded to Alta Langa and Barolo with solid quality across the broad. The Bussia bottling embodies the classiness of this MGA. While still youthfully restrained, it rings out with red fruit purity. Aromas of sage, eucalyptus and allspice draw you in, then earthy forest underbrush adds intrigue on the palate. Full but judiciously measured in power. Smooth tannins layer up with assertive purpose. Energetic and harmonious from start to finish." Decanter
"The 2021 Barolo Bussia is a very pretty, aromatic Barolo. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, tobacco and spice are all woven together artfully. Despite its mid-weight personality, the 2021 has plenty of punch, especially on the mid-palate and finish, where potent tannins make themselves felt. There's a ton to admire here." Vinous
