The year was 1090, the year in which Leif Erikson discovered North America, the Chinese discovered gunpowder and Pope Urban II conquered Jerusalem. On that day, the notary Bellundo recorded a contract in the Siena state archives: two capons, three loaves of bread and six coins of good silver as an annual lease for a vineyard in the divine valley of Dievole. "Dio vuole" – god wants it. This is the etymological root of this name, which has symbolised the special connection between man and nature in this corner of Tuscany for over nine centuries.

The Vigna Sessina extends over 5.5 hectares facing south at an altitude of 400-450 metres, nestled in the gentle hills of Vagliagli, which have been considered a small paradise on earth since the Middle Ages. The soil tells a geological story: fossil-rich Macigno sandstone from the Pliocene, interspersed with a limestone vein. This porous, skeleton-rich structure forces the roots deep into the soil, giving the Sangiovese the unique elegance and freshness that defines the character of this terroir. Since 2013, the historic estate has been owned by Argentinian entrepreneur Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, who initiated a comprehensive modernisation with OenologistAlberto Antonini – not as a break with tradition, but as a return to the deepest identity of these vineyards. The Gran Selezione is made from the best selection of grapes from this vineyard. Hand-picked, spontaneous fermentation in cement vats, followed by 17 months of ageing in large oak barrels. The result is pure, organically certified Sangiovese without any admixture, a wine that epitomises Dievole's philosophy: Quality through research and mindfulness.

Intense ruby red colour with subtle garnet reflections. The nose reveals ripe red berries, dried cherries, plums, notes of wilted violets and spicy accents of sage.
