Contrada Sciaranuova Bianco delivers an expressive portrait of the volcano – a white wine of crystalline clarity, grown at an altitude of 850 metres on the northern flanks of Mount Etna in the Contrada of the same name near Passopisciaro. The vines – almost exclusively Carricante – are deeply rooted in layers of lava rich in iron and ash, characterised by a strong day-night amplitude and a cool microclimate. The 2022 vintage was phenomenal in Sicily: a fresh spring, a moderate summer and a long ripening phase until October allowed for a precise harvest with excellent freshness and mineral expression.

The vinification was deliberately restrained: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks and around six months of ageing on the fine lees, partly in large wood, to refine the texture and depth without losing the transparency of the grape variety. In the glass, the wine is a light straw yellow colour with silvery reflections. The nose is sparse and nuanced: Citrus zest, white peach, fennel, wet stone and a hint of smoke. Taut, saline and vibrant on the palate, with pulsating acidity, restrained fruit and striking, almost ascetic minerality. The finish is long, clear and full of cool energy. Contrada Sciaranuova Bianco is an Etna white wine of great precision and inner tension – not a loud representative, but a silent interpreter of the volcano, uncompromisingly cool in origin and attitude.
