High above the Tanaro in the municipality of Treiso lies the Valeirano plot – one of the most barren and steepest sites in the Barbaresco region. Calcareous marl soils, interspersed with fine veins of sand, and an exposed south-easterly aspect lend the Nebbiolo here a particularly taut, vertical profile. Following a careful hand-harvest, the wine ferments traditionally on the skins and is then aged for around 20 months in new barriques before being bottled unfiltered.

In the glass, a deep ruby red with a garnet-red rim. On the nose, initially firm and reserved, then a multi-layered spectrum of aromas unfolds: ripe raspberries, sour cherries and blueberries, accompanied by violets, sage, delicate mint and hints of graphite and damp slate. On the palate, it is taut and precise, with a sinewy tannin structure, vibrant acidity and an almost cool minerality that carries the long finish. Valeirano is Barbaresco in its clear, straightforward form – a wine of great depth and tension that rewards patience with exceptional development. SUPERIORE.DE
