In the annals of northern Italian wine history, I Palchi marks a turning point – the moment when Stefano Inama realised that he had created a white monument that could compete with the world's great Burgundies. Born from the visionary search for "maximum purity", as Alessio Inama puts it, this Soave Classico not only represents the white flagship of the house, but also a new dimension of what the old Garganega vine is capable of achieving on volcanic soil. The name I Palchi – the terraces – is more than just a geographical designation. It refers to the broad, terraced slopes of Monte Foscarino, which have been characterised by the traditional Veronese Garganega pergolas for over half a century. It was here, on this extinct volcano that has watched over the Po Valley for 30 million years, that Giuseppe Inama began his quiet crusade in the 1960s. While other producers focused on quantity in the plain, he recognised the extraordinary potential of these ancient terraced vineyards – an intuition that today has left his grandchildren a legacy of priceless value.

The terroir of I Palchi is a geological wonder: basaltic lava soils interspersed with volcanic tuffs and the characteristic "red horizons" – those layers of ferruginous clay formed by the weathering of volcanic rock. These ancient vines, between 30 and 70 years old, are deeply rooted in this mineral-rich subsoil, while the constant wind from Lake Garda makes the grapes smaller and thicker-skinned – a natural concentration process that exponentially increases the aromatic intensity. Since 2019, Inama has been pursuing an uncompromising quality strategy with I Palchi: a selection is made from the best microplots of the old Pergola vineyards that is second to none. The optimal exposure, the unique microclimate and pedantic vineyard care create grapes of such exceptional quality that they deserve separate vinification and their own label. Vinification is carried out in a carefully considered combination: 50% in large wooden barrels for structure and complexity, 30% in barriques for subtle depth, 20% in stainless steel to preserve the primary fruit flavours. The label – a scientific study of the lunar eclipse from the "Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure" of 1764 – symbolises the spirit of enlightenment of the Inama family: man at the centre of the universe, thirsting for knowledge and perfection.

I Palchi 2022 presents itself as a straw yellow wine with green reflections, whose bouquet reveals the full complexity of this extraordinary terroir. Intense aromas of stone fruits and citrus fruits blend with floral notes of camomile and white flowers, while the characteristic volcanic minerality – salty, ashy notes reminiscent of basalt lava – gives the wine its unmistakable identity. A wine of monumental structure unfolds on the palate: full-bodied and silky, with a creamy texture supported by lively acidity. Flavours of mango, pears and a hint of vanilla lead into an endless, mineral-driven final that lingers for minutes.
