Where the sun sets – right where the light last touches the steep hillside plot before sinking behind the contours of the Val d'Orcia – lies Campo di Tenaglia. This vineyard covers just eight-tenths of a hectare at an altitude of 500 metres, yet what grows here on rugged limestone and coarse, sandy soil possesses an intensity that stands out even amongst Trinoro's crus. The soil extends to a depth of over two metres; the roots of the Cabernet Franc vines, which are over 25 years old, reach down into the mineral, skeletal layers – and lend the wine its powerful character. Tenaglia embodies tension.

Whilst Magnacosta displays fluid elegance and cool precision, Tenaglia develops a more opulent, warmer bouquet: dark berries, smoky tobacco, a hint of liquorice and dried herbs. The nose shifts between black cherry and graphite, between floral hints of violets and earthy, almost smoky, tarry notes. The 2023 vintage brings maturity and richness without losing the freshness typical of Trinoro. On the palate, the full power of this cru unfolds: concentrated, dense, with powerfully structured tannins that remain firm and present. Where Magnacosta seems to float, Tenaglia grips you – a wine with volume, with definition, with a mineral tension that stems from the limestone and carries through to the long, spicy final. Campo di Tenaglia is a Cabernet Franc that divides opinion: not ingratiating, not soft – but expressive, with rough edges, with mineral depth and those powerful tannins that are the hallmark of this vineyard.
