The world of Sauvignon Blanc knows two great voices: the Loire Valley and Marlborough. Gianfranco Gallo has added a third – the Isonzo Valley. Not because he wanted to, but because the Piere vineyard decided so. 11.5 hectares in Mariano del Friuli at 34 metres, predominantly Italian clones with loose grapes on deep, gravelly-sandy soils with conglomerate components. The bora brings coolness, the Adriatic Sea brings ripeness, the Isonzo brings minerals. Short cold maceration, fermentation at 16–19 °C, eight months on the yeasts, no malolactic fermentation, ten months in the bottle.

Light yellow with green reflections. On the nose, ginger, cardamom, flint, coriander seeds, including nectarine and delicate herbal spice – a spice bomb of rare precision. Silky on the palate, with a cooling minerality, a freshness that holds all the tropical flavours together and a long, dry, herb-scented final. "The 2024 Friuli Isonzo Sauvignon Blanc Piere is fully fermented in stainless steel and shows a generous and fresh expression with green citrus fruit, subtle green pepper and bright primary flavours. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, with a richness and length balanced by lively acidity and clear mineral notes.
