The purchase of the Mosconi Cru parcels in Monforte by Pio Boffa is one of the last major decisions taken by the estate – with the aim of complementing the depth of Serralunga (Ornato) with Monforte gravity. Selective hand-picking; separate fermentation in stainless steel with a carefully extended maceration period, malolactic without haste. Classic ageing in large barrels, moderate proportion of French oak as a fine brushstroke of texture. The 2020 vintage fitted in well with the concept: a stable summer, clear nights for ripening and precise harvest – healthy, ripe harvest, polished phenolics and generous, balanced fruit were the result.

Clear, dense garnet colour in the glass. Amarena, dark plum, blackberry on the nose; violets, sandalwood, liquorice, a hint of cocoa and balsamic herbs. Full-bodied and well-balanced on the palate with a silky tannin flow, a juicy mid-palate and a fresh, vibrant acidity that lends even more vigour to the fullness. The wood always remains discreetly contoured. Very long, spicy-mineral finish with bay leaf and fine dark chocolate. A true Mosconi with sensual depth and supreme calm – charismatic, precise and with excellent ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
