In 1988, the Boscarelli family acquired the Vigna del Nocio – four hectares in the eastern part of the estate, named after the walnut trees that once lined its edges. A small vineyard, but one with an intrinsic complexity that transcends any simple description: The soils are of alluvial origin, but of completely different textures depending on the location – sandy zones alternate with loamy ones in close succession. The same grape variety, the same plot of land, and yet several characters that only reveal themselves to the attentive eye. The family has not simplified this complexity – they have mapped it.

Since 1991, special selections of Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile have been carried out in Nocio, taking into account both the pedoclimatic characteristics of the different zones and the different clones. The different soil types require different harvest times. Each sub-plot is vinified separately and matured separately in Slavonia and Allier oak for between 5 and 10 hectolitres, 18 to 24 months. Blending only takes place at the end – in proportions dictated by the character of the vintage. Then another year of ageing in the bottle. 100% Prugnolo Gentile. Approx. 5,000 bottles.

In 2021, Montepulciano showed its classic face: balanced ripeness, fresh tension, clear flavours without traces of heat. This was an ideal setting for the Nocio, whose quality thrives on the inner differentiation of its soils. Deep, bright ruby red colour. Red rose, marasca, pomegranate, clove, cinnamon, a hint of orange peel and cardamom on the nose – sublime and multi-layered, with a stillness that is decades old.
